Rich Or Poor We All Have The Same Responsibility: To Keep Our Priorities Straight To Commit Our Work To The Lord To Avoid Wasting Our Lives On Things That Wont Last Into Eternity To Be Good And Faithful Stewards

In the 16th century, theologian Martin Luther wrote that as a practical matter, there are three conversions a person must experience to be fully committed a conversion of the heart, a conversion of the mind, and a conversion of the purse.

In counseling people about Biblical financial practices for decades, I know this to be true. Often, it is in the use of our money that we last surrender to Gods ways. Crown has some wonderful resources in a new MoneyLife study to teach Gods financial principles.

How To Properly Steward What God Has Given You

What Does The Bible Have To Say About Wealth?

Scripture reminds us that God ultimately owns everything here on earth. Our job is to responsibly steward the resources that God has given us. We also have the opportunity to bring God glory through the ways that we manage our finances.

In these Bible verses about managing finances, we see some main principles:

  • God blesses those who make money through honest work rather than sinful practices.
  • God calls us to pay back what we owe and help those who have helped us.
  • Itâs wise for us to plan, thinking through how weâll make money, and spend money.
  • Saving money can help set us up for future financial success.

6. Dishonest money dwindles away

âDishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.â

7. Pay what you owe to others

âLook! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.â

8. A wise man thinks ahead

âA wise man thinks ahead a fool doesnât, and even brags about it!â

9. The plans of the diligent lead to profit

âThe plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.â

10. Sit down and estimate the cost

11. It is wise to store up wealth

12. Provide for your household

So What Does The Bible Say About Debt

After you review the Bible verses about debt, youâll discover three principles:

  • God does not forbid debt
  • God does highly caution against debt
  • Taking on debt is generally a bad thing
  • Even though God doesn’t forbid debt, you still want to be cautious when you consider taking on debt. Itâs also a good idea to seek the advice of a financial advisor or godly counsel to speak into your financial situation.

If you are in debt , prayerfully consider the steps you can take to get out of debt as soon as possibleâespecially when it comes to paying off credit cards.

How To Trust God In Times Of Financial Need

In the Bible, there are many accounts of God providing for those in need. We see God provide food for Israel in the wilderness, for Elijah during a drought, for Samaria during a time of famine. We also see God providing money, healing, comfort, and protection. In times of need, we arenât promised that God will give us wealth and riches. But we see in these bible verses about managing finances that God will supply the needs of his people.

    23. God will supply all your needs

âAnd my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.â

    24. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it

âI am the Lord Your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.â

    25. God clothes the grass of the field, how much more will he clothe you

âIf that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe youâyou of little faith!â

When we approach money with the right attitude and look to Godâs Word as a source of guidance, we can learn to manage our finances in a way that brings glory to God.

Proverbs 15:27 He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.

Proverbs 1:19 So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.

1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owners except to feast their eyes on them?

Proverbs 28:22 A stingy man is eager to get rich and is unaware that poverty awaits him.

1 Thessalonians 2:5 You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed-God is our witness.

They Commonly Wrestle With Certain Struggles

What does the Bible say about Wealth, Prosperity, & Discipline?

There is an assumption that can be drawn from Pauls words in verse 19. At the time of his writing, the rich were not taking hold of the life that is truly Life. Jesus said that it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter Gods Kingdom . There is something about wealth that brings about its own spiritual temptations and struggles. This is why Timothy is encouraged to redirect this groups hope.

From my experience, those who are rich often battle against a desire to find their hope and security in wealth. They regularly struggle to spend time with family because of a busy work schedule. And, they find it difficult to meaningfully connect with others in the church.

Just as a mom of young children has struggles that are specific to her life situation, so do the wealthy. Yet, most who have means find it difficult to express such struggles in front of those with lesser means. This is not due to pride but guilt. So, they struggle in silence.

How To Manage Money In Times Of Abundance

It can be easy to fixate on our wealth in this uncertain world, thinking it can solve our problems. Wealth can be a gift from God, and we can use it to bring Him glory when appropriately managed. In times of prosperity, God calls us to be generous and ready to share with those who have less. By being generous and rich in good works, we store up the treasure of a good foundation for the future.

    19. Honor the Lord from your wealth

âHonor the LORD from your wealth and from the first of all your produce So your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will overflow with new wine.â

    20. It is a good thing to receive wealth from God

âAnd it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in lifeâthis is indeed a gift from God.â

    21. We will bring our firstfruits to the Lord

âWe obligate ourselves to bring the firstfruits of our ground and the firstfruits of all fruit of every tree, year by year, to the house of the LORD.â

    22. Donât fix your hope on the uncertainty of riches

âInstruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.â

Things Bible Verses Say About Money

In the words of Jesus, âFor where your treasure is, there your heart will be alsoâ . After reviewing Bible verses about money, there are a nine big principles that come to the surface, including:

  • God owns everything
  • Moâ money, moâ problems
  • What the Bible has to say about money isnât limited to these nine principles.

Remember, there are roughly 2,000 Bible verses about money and possessions, which means there are way more nuances talked about in the Bible than these nine.

All Iâm saying is that these nine principles appear to be the most prominent. Because, you know, “the love of money is the… “

What Does The Bible Say About Discipling The Wealthy

Rich or poor, there is no difference in ministry here. I dont even know who is wealthy or not. Pastor A

Of course, we engage the wealthy differently. We provide specific ministries for a lot of different groups. Pastor B

Engaging the wealthy in a church is a divided topic. Many pastors would rather not single out the wealthy for discipleship purposes due to either the perception or reality of violating James 2:1My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. Other pastors have no problem whatsoever singling out the wealthy for discipleship purposes, as long as it doesnt provide preferential treatment to those members.

Without question, both sides decide their discipleship strategy with heartfelt conviction.

What I want to do in this brief article is simply look at what Scripture says on the topic. In 1 Timothy 6:17-19, we find Paul writing to Timothy about the wealthy who are under his watch. Here is what Paul says:

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

    The Riches Of His Glory

What Does The Bible Have To Say About Wealth?

The wealth of the sovereign God who created and controls the universe is, of course, inestimable and beyond human understanding. When one considers the subject or theme of Gods glory, he finds that traditionally by Gods glory is meant three basic thoughts: his praise , his honor , and/or his magnificence . For example, Isaiah invites all the earth to join in singing the Lords praise . In doing so, he says,

Let the inhabitants of Sela sing for joy, Let them cry out from the mountain tops.Let them give glory to the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.

In a brilliant metaphor, the psalmist tells the gates of Jerusalem to open up, for

Then the King of glory will come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of Hosts, He is the King of glory.

The Lord Jesus Christ also is a person of honor. When Jesus was nearing his time of death on the cross, he said to the Father, I glorified you on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me at your side with the glory I had with you before the world was created . And so it came to be . Thusin Johns Apocalypse the 24 heavenly elders are seen as worshiping the Lord and crying,

You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, since you created all things, and because of your will, they existed and were created.

Similarly, the angels are seen praising Christ, the Redeemer, singing in a loud voice:

Bible Verses Of Encouragement For The Poor

In the Bible, it is clear that those in poverty are close to Gods heart. Jesus himself was born into poverty and gave up his heavenly riches when he came down to earth. Constantly, the poor are said to be blessed and we are instructed to value integrity over riches. God has not forgotten the poor and instead calls all believers to join in his restorative work to bring hope and opportunity to them.

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? James 2:5

You would shame the plans of the poor, but the Lord is his refuge.

Psalm 72:12-14For he delivers the needy when they call, the poor and those who have no helper. He has pity on the weak and the needy and saves the lives of the needy. From oppression and violence, he redeems their life precious is their blood in his sight.

2 Corinthians 8:9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.
