What Does The Bible Say About The Fatherless

I Have Come To Turn A Man Against His Father

What does the Bible say about God?

âDo not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn

âa man against his father,

a daughter against her mother,

a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-lawâ

a manâs enemies will be the members of his own household.ââ

This is one of the more startling statements Jesus made in his earthly ministry. But he goes on to give us a better idea of what he means:

âAnyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.â âMatthew 10:37

Sometimes following Jesus pits us against the desires and perspectives of our family members. These moments reveal who truly holds the greatest importance in our lives and what we really love most. No matter how much we love our families, obeying God and honoring him with our choices should always take precedence.

Children Are Part Of Gods Creative Plan

God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number fill the earth and subdue it. Genesis 1:28

After creating Adam and Eve, God commanded that they be fruitful, or have children. The original design included families with children. Kids werent an afterthought. Everything about creation was pronounced good, including his design for children.

What Does The Bible Say About Widows And Orphans

A sad fact of life is that there are many widows and orphans in the world. In some countries, they are well cared for. In others, they are left to fend for themselves. However, what many people do not realize is that Christians are called to have an active role in providing for widows and orphans. What does the Bible say about widows and orphans?

What Does The Bible Say About Fathers Being Absent

What Does The Bible Say About Fathers Being Absent in the lives of their children? Well start by saying that Jesus Christ loves children and will not encourage the abandonment of any child. Remember Jesus said it would be better for a person to put a millstone around their neck than to have one of the little ones to walk away from him. says, People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.

God Cares About Orphans A Lot

What does it mean that God is father to the fatherless?

Because God cares about orphans, it makes sense that we should too. The Bible tells us to love one another as He loves us, and that includes everyone.

God seems to have a special fondness for orphans and widows simply because they are the most vulnerable among us. A society is only as strong as its weakest and most vulnerable, so making the case that orphans deserve our attention and care is easy to do.

A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.

Fathers Encourage And Comfort Their Children

âFor you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.â

Paul highlights some ways fathers love and lead their children: through encouragement, comfort, and persistently reminding them to live in a way that glorifies God. The writer of Hebrews says, âAnd let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,â and the unique relationship between father and child creates many opportunities to do so.

When children try to do something difficult, a good father encourages them. When a child is hurting, a good father comforts them. And a good father demonstrates how to live out Godâs calling.

A Fatherly Word In Conclusion

For those of us whove struggled with the pain of having a rotten father, this leaves us in that awkward place between love and hate. Ill never be like my dad, we vow. Still, we long to hear his words, Well done, my good and faithful child.

For those of us whove received the blessing of an incredible father or kids of our own, the struggle is no less real.Ill never be like my dad, we lament. And, still, we long to hear him speak over our fatherly efforts, Well done, my good and faithful child.

Through Christ, God speaks a better word to each of us. Thanks to His redemptive work on our behalf, we have become what He has always been by naturechildren of the living God.

Son or daughter, by His wounds, you have been healed .

Because thats true, we can dare to reimagine fatherhood.

A Man Who Fathers A Wise Son Rejoices In Him

âListen to your father, who gave you life,

and do not despise your mother when she is old.

Buy the truth and do not sell itâ

wisdom, instruction and insight as well.

The father of a righteous child has great joy

a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.â

God is the one who ultimately makes us righteous and gives us wisdom. But fathers have an opportunity to participate in the process. And when a father sees that God has used him to produce righteousness and wisdom in his child, itâs something to rejoice about.

Parents often look at their children and say things like, âHow did we make such a beautiful baby?â We know that it is God who creates life, but we get to participate in the incredible process. In the same way, he uses us to produce righteousness and wisdom in our children.

Fathers Take Pride In Their Kids

What does the Bible say about men? | Father’s Day 2021

Dads are invested in their kids.

When you fail, your dadâs there to pick you up. When you succeed, your dadâs there to cheer you on.

There is no feeling quite like that of a dad who sees his child become a woman or man of integrity, love, service, and work ethic.

Psalm 127:3-5â

âChildren are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in oneâs youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.â

Psalm 128:3-4â

âYour wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord.â

Proverbs 3:11-12

My child, when the Lord God speaks to you, never take his words lightly, and never be upset when he corrects you. For the Fatherâs discipline comes only from his passionate love and pleasure for you. Even when it seems like his correction is harsh, itâs still better than any father on earth gives to his child. â Proverbs 3:11-12

Proverbs 20:7

âThe righteous lead blameless lives blessed are their children after them.â

Proverbs 23:24

âThe father of a righteous child has great joy a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.â

3 John 1:4

âIt is the greatest joy of my life to hear that my children are consistently living their lives in the ways of truth.â

Warnings Regarding Obedience: Dont Be Like The World

10 Then it shall come about when the LORD your God brings you into the land which He swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you, great and splendid cities which you did not build, 11 and houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and hewn cisterns which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, and you shall eat and be satisfied, 12 then watch yourself, lest you forget the LORD who brought you from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 13 You shall fear only the LORD your God and you shall worship Him, and swear by His name. 14 You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you, 15 for the LORD your God in the midst of you is a jealous God otherwise the anger of the LORD your God will be kindled against you, and He will wipe you off the face of the earth.

History show that less developed cultures are normally absorbed by those more advanced. In years which followed, Israel did not become absorbed by Canaan, but she did experience profound influence. Had this involved only material culture, such as pottery manufacture, city construction, or methods of farming, there could even have been benefit but when it came to include ways of thinking, ideas, and especially religious belief and practice, the harm was great .

This is a warning against testing the Lord by rebellion and disobedience . This will eventually result in personal and national discipline, always.

Father Of The Fatherless Is Not An Empty Quip

Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.

Every Fathers Day, somewhere, some well-meaning preacher makes a passing reference to the promise of Psalm 68:5 in a way that may do more harm than good. To the fatherless it may sound like an empty quip Dont worry about the absence, you have God as your Father. But God wasnt sitting in the stands with their mom during the game or at the recital. God wasnt paying the bills so mom wouldnt have to work three jobs. Wielded haphazardly, this glorious promise can actually multiply the feeling of absence for the fatherless Not only is your dad not here, neither is God.

The fatherless desperately need the promise of Psalm 68:5, but it is not given for instant inspiration. Gods promises are meant to be long considered even in the midst of suffering. The wicked lie in wait to destroy me, but I consider your testimonies . His promises are given for meditation throughout ones life. His delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night . Meditation on Gods promises reorients our perspective on Fatherhood. The institution of fatherhood in this life is given that we may see a glimpse of a greater eternal reality. It is before our eternal Father from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, and not vice versa . God is our transcendent Father Almighty, maker of Heaven and Earth.

You Have One Father And He Is In Heaven

âAnd do not call anyone on earth âfather,â for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.â

Jesus reminded his followers that they all belonged to Godâs family and that, above anyone else, God is the one who deserves their honor and obedience. This echoes Malachiâs words in Malachi 2:10: âHave we not all one Father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers?â

When we recognize our shared Father, it changes the way we see our relationship to others and challenges us to care for one another as brothers and sisters.

Your Faith Will Be A Refuge For Your Children

What does the Bible say about obeying parents?

âWhoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.â

When families face hardships, children look to their parents for reassurance, hope, and encouragement. If a father respects and submits to God in all things, his faith will be a source of comfort for his children and help them feel secure, regardless of what the storms of life bring against them.

The Propagation Of Obedience: Teach And Model The Word

7 and you shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. 8 And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. 9 And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Deuteronomy 6:20-25 When your son asks you in time to come, saying, What do the testimonies and the statutes and the judgments mean which the LORD our God commanded you? 21 then you shall say to your son, We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt and the LORD brought us from Egypt with a mighty hand. 22 Moreover, the LORD showed great and distressing signs and wonders before our eyes against Egypt, Pharaoh and all his household 23 and He brought us out from there in order to bring us in, to give us the land which He had sworn to our fathers. 24 So the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the LORD OUR God for our good always and for our survival, as it is today. 25 And it will be righteousness for us if we are careful to observe all this commandment before the LORD our God, just as He commanded us.

This forms a natural progression. We arent capable of truly teaching until we are first following, hearing, obeying, loving, and being occupied with the Lord ourselves. We must model the Word as we teach it.

There are five ways the text shows us this teaching is to be done.

Listen My Sons To A Fathers Instruction

âListen, my sons, to a fatherâs instruction

pay attention and gain understanding.

For I give you sound teaching

do not abandon my directive.â

Proverbs 4 is a good passage for fathers and children alike to reflect on in its entirety. Itâs a message about the importance of seeking and acquiring wisdom and an assurance that a son can trust his father to be a source of wisdom. Long after a father is gone, his wisdom will live on in the words he has spoken to his children. The insights, advice, and encouragement he has given them will continue to shape their decisions and even become the things they pass on to their own children.

The Lord Carried You As A Father Carries His Son

10 Bible Verses About Fathers/Dad

âThen I said to you, âDo not be terrified do not be afraid of them. The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the wilderness. There you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.ââ

âAs a father carries his son,â the Lord carried the Israelites out of slavery, fought off their enemies, provided for them through their wandering in the desert, and brought them into the promised land.

When a child isnât strong enough to do something on their own, their father can carry them through it. Fathers advocate for their children. They provide wisdom and guidance in the face of uncertainty. And with the protection of a loving father, a child doesnât have to be afraid.

A father cares deeply about the suffering and misfortune of his children. He empathizes with them and desires to help make things right. While itâs easy to think about God as being so far removed from us that he couldnât possibly be concerned about our problems, the psalmist says that a fatherâs compassion for his children is a picture of Godâs compassion for us.
