Moses Midianite Not Ethiopian Wife
The book of Jasher also clears up a misunderstanding that many Christians have.
There is a preconceived notion that Aaron and Miriam were upset with Moses because of an Ethiopian woman that he married, which is true
But, the problem is most people think that it was his current wife at the time Moses was leading Israel, who was Ethiopian
The truth is the Ethiopian wife that was being referred to was a previous marriage Moses had with an Ethiopian queen.
This information is only found in the book of Jasher. It is also confirm by an Israelite writer of the times called Josephus and can be found in his writings, which supports the book of Jashers account of the aforementioned events.

We dont know who wrote the Book of Jasher. Since Joshua makes mention of the book, the writer must have written the text prior to the time of the Judges, even though the text seems to talk about Joshuas death as well. Perhaps several writers compiled the 91-chapter book. Or, as this article suggests, perhaps no such book even existed during the time of Joshua.

Why Dont We Include Jasher In Our Bibles
However, because we dont have the original copy, and only a suspect translation was created in the 1700s, we dont know exactly what the Book of Jasher originally said. Therefore, scholars left it out of the Scriptural canon. After all, if God had wanted it included, he would have found a way for historians to preserve the text over time, as they would’ve helped Scriptural canonicity as an utmost importance.
Second, with what translations we do have, we run into some anti-biblical errors, as mentioned in this article.
For example, the Book of Jasher makes mention of snow pre-Flood, even though the earth had never seen precipitation until the time of Noah , and several other issues of the chronology of what happens in the Bible, versus what the Book of Jasher says.
Third, we have to realize that the writers of both the Old and New Testaments included references and sometimes quotes from extra-biblical sources. For instance, Paul quotes a Greek poet in Titus 1:12. The Old Testament writers make mention of other books such as the Book of Wars , The Annals of King David , The Sayings of the Seers , etc.
God used the writings of extra-biblical sources to point others toward him. We can arguably see gospel threads in philosophers such as Plato and his Allegory of the Cave, etc.

There have been at least two forgeries. One is an ethical essay from the Middle Ages and does not currently exist in English. A second forgery was published in 1829 AD, supposedly translated by Flaccus Albinus Alcuinus. History: Book Of Jasher Summary
Heres some history about the book of Jasher
The authentic version of the book of Jasher was presented in 1840, and sold to a New York Jewish publisher in 1887.
The name of the New York publisher was Mordecai Manuel Noah, apparently popular at the time.
The book was printed in 1887 by Hyrum Parry Printing Company of Salt Lake City after they obtained rights to the New York edition of 1840.
The book was then published in Utah
The New York Sun published a notice in Nauvoo Illnois 1840 that announced the introduction of the book of Jasher, which you can see below:
The Book of Jasher
During the 18th century there were also fraudulent copies of the book of Jasher that were published, this is where a lot of confusion comes from.
The litmus test to authenticate the book of Jasher, as mentioned previously is really always going to be an individual study. Only when we do this can we see if it lines up with other scriptures.
I will be presenting scriptures and scenarios that do this very thing below:
I Recently Acquired A Copy Of A Text Called The Book Of Jasher Which Is Claimed To Be The Book Of Missing Scripture Referred To In The Bible Can You Tell Me If It Is Authentic
Edward J. Brandt, college curriculum writer, Church Educational System. In Joshua 10:13 and 2 Samuel 1:18 the ancient writers indicate that another account, perhaps more complete, of two events they had mentionedâJoshua commanding the sun and moon to stand still, and Davidâs instruction that the children of Judah should be taught the use of the bowâis to be found in a record called the âbook of Jasher.â From very early times this lost book has been the object of much interest and speculation, and many have sought to find the missing work.
Through the years a number of works bearing this same title have appeared, and each has aroused the speculation that perhaps the missing biblical work had been located. These are all spurious, however, since the real Book of Jasher is not known to have been found. Of the dozen or such books of Jasher, one has been widely circulated and utilized by members of the Church. Following is a brief genealogy of this particular work.
In 1887, the Joseph Hyrum Parry Printing Company of Salt Lake City secured the rights to the New York 1840 edition and republished the work. In 1964 the work was reissued as a photo reprint of the 1887 edition and has experienced a number of printings to date.

The Origin Of The Book Of Jasher
As expressed previously there are those naysayers that dispute the validity of the book of Jasher, so we will be looking at the historical background of the book of Jasher.
Unfortunately the lack of belief in other scriptures has wrought a lot of confusion about which Book of Jasher to read, Yes I did say which Book of Jasher?
I say this because there are some fraudulent translations, and because of this many people just write of all versions as not useful, what ever that means
The truth is the only real way to know if books are valid in the bible is to read the scriptures, as the scriptures tell us too,
2 Timothy 2:15
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
In short, Studying is the only true way to know if scriptures are valid.
Who Are Jannes And Jambres
You may or may not of heard of these two men called Jannes and Jambres. If you havent this will be your introduction
If you read the Epistles there is mention of these two rebellious men:
2 Timothy 3:8
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
But who are Jannes and Jambres? We are told that they are two men who withstood Moses, meaning they were in opposition to Moses.
We find nowhere in any other scriptures the names of these two men, but if you look in the book of Jasher their identities are clearly revealed, aswell as how they opposed Moses.
He we see the whole story. Jannes and Jambres were the sons of Balaam, an Egyptian sorcerer.
Pharaoh called his top magicians to try and prove the miracles that Moses performed were nothing more than magic tricks and not from the Most High.
We see that Moses turned his rod into a snake and the magicians doing the same.
We then see Moses proving his power came from the Most High when his rod swallowed the rods of the magicians.
All of this information can only be found in the book of Jasher, without which we would have to speculate about what is said in 2 Timothy 3:8.

What Does The Bible Say About The Book Of Jasher
In Samuel. According to the Book of Samuel, when David spoke his lament over the deaths of Saul and Jonathan, he began as follows: To teach the Sons of Judah the use of the bow behold it is written in the book of Jasher. The Septuagint translation renders sefer hayashar in both cases as the Book of the Just.
Evidence The Current Book Of Jasher Is Not Legitimate
As an example of another ancient book which does not have the problems the modern Book of Jasher has, we turn our attention to the Book of Enoch…
Though the Book of Enoch had been widely popular, after the destruction of Israels temple by Rome, Jews, and later, Christians too, began to reject the Book of Enoch. This was done in a number of ways. One method was to propose an alternative storyline to the well-known Enochan saga. The idea presented in the Book of Enoch, that angels had the ability to fall into sexual sin was thought to be repugnant and unthinkable. Because of this a number of alternative storylines began to be proposed in order to airbrush out the story of angelic promiscuity.
The Books of Adam and Eve
As an example of an attempt to re-write the central story found in Book of Enoch, take the following quote from The Books of Adam and Eve, a book written sometime late in the first century AD.
And when they looked at the daughters of Cain, at their beautiful figures, and at their hands and feet dyed with colour, and tattooed in ornaments on their faces, the fire of sin was kindled in them. Then Satan made them look most beautiful before the sons of Seth, as he also made the sons of Seth appear of the fairest in the eyes of the daughters of Cain, so that the daughters of Cain lusted after the sons of Seth like ravenous beasts, and the sons of Seth after the daughters of Cain, until they committed abomination with them .

The Book Of Jasher Uncloaked
|Virtually ignored since it was discovered, the Book of Jasher holdsvital clues to interpreting and understanding Biblical chronology, fromthe Flood to the Exodus. A mistake made by Archbishop James Ussher, who was unfamiliar with the book of Jasher, led to a 60-year error inplacing the birth of Abraham. But this error is corrected in the chrono-logical keys provided by the book of Jasher. And with these keys, anintriguing, and astounding story emerges.
William F. Dankenbring
The title of the book in Hebrew, , literallymeans “the book of the upright,” or “the upright or correctrecord.” Some have thought that “Jasher” was the name ofa Hebrew judge in Israel, and a publication that arose in the middle ofthe eighteenth century , purported itself to be a translationinto English from a Hebrew manuscript of “Jasher” found at Gaznain Persia. That book appears to have been a fictitious book, a fraud, andmost probably the work of some agnostic, cynical English skeptic, writtenin imitation of the language of Scripture. Its author, in his ignorance, presumed “Jasher” to have been the personal name of an ancientHebrew figure, the original writer. But the mischievous deed was recognizedby true scholars of Hebrew, for the pronoun “the” never precedes or is prefixed to proper names.
The translator concludes:
Having said these things, let’s take a close look and see how the bookof Jasher, then, impacts our understanding of ancient Biblicalchronology, and what it means to us, today!
