What Must I Do To Be Saved 7 Simple Tips

What Must I Do to Be Saved? (Bible Class Version) | Drawn Toward God

What must I do to be saved? This is a question that many people ask, and the answer can be found in the Bible. In this blog post, we will explore what the Bible says about being saved, and how you can receive salvation through Jesus Christ. We hope that this information will help you to understand Godâs plan for your salvation and guide you on your journey to find eternal life.

To Be Saved You Must Recognize That You Cannot Save Yourself By Keeping Gods Law

Romans 10:5: For Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on law shall live by that righteousness. For shows that Paul is explaining 10:4. He refers to Leviticus 18:5, So you shall keep My statutes and My judgments, by which a man may live if he does them I am the Lord. In that verse, live does not refer to eternal life, but to enjoying Gods blessings in the Promised Land .

But for Paul, life is equivalent to justification, or righteous standing before God. In Galatians 3:11-12, Paul also cites Leviticus 18:5 to contrast the attempt to approach God by keeping the law with the way of faith: Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident for, The righteous man shall live by faith. However, the Law is not of faith on the contrary, He who practices them shall live by them. Then in 3:21-22, he adds, Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law. But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

But at his conversion, Paul counted all of these credits as loss for the sake of Christ. He goes on to explain the contrast : may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith.

The Jews On The Day Of Pentecost

Acts 2 recounts how the church was established on the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem. As this chapter opens, more than seven weeks had passed since Jesus had been crucified and raised from the dead. In the moments before He ascended, He had told His apostles to remain in Jerusalem until they received the power of the Holy Spirit .

They were in the city when Jews from around the world came to celebrate the Feast of Weeks . While the apostles were sitting together, there was a loud noise that sounded as if it were a violent wind. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in foreign languages. The apostles were not the only ones who heard the noise. The people in the city heard it, too, and rushed together to find out what had happened. They were further bewildered when they heard the apostles speaking about the mighty works of God and doing so in the native tongues of the foreigners. The reaction in the crowd was divided. Some remained puzzled by what they were seeing and hearing. Others accused the apostles of being drunk.

Who Saves Me From My Sin

But someone must pay the sinner’s debt before the Divine law, for he is helpless and powerless to pay it himself. “The wages of sin is death . Jesus, God’s Son, died upon the cross in the sinner’s place. God has accepted the sacrifice of His Sonour Lord Jesus Christon our behalf. Therefore, it remains only for usfree moral agents that we areto admit our sins and to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior. Romans 10:10 says, “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

  • Believe with the heartno mental reservations. We just throw our helpless souls on Him.
  • Confess our sins to Him, and confess our faith in Him.
  • To Be Saved You Must Recognize That Christ Has Done For You What You Could Never Do For Yourself

    Acts 16:30

Romans 10:6-8: But the righteousness based on faith speaks as follows: Do not say in your heart, Who will ascend into heaven? , or Who will descend into the abyss? . But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heartthat is, the word of faith which we are preaching.

These are difficult verses and I wont pretend that I completely understand them, even after reading and re-reading numerous commentaries! But Ill try to explain them as best as I can. The opening but shows that Paul is contrasting the righteousness based on the law with the righteousness based on faith. He first cites from Deuteronomy 8:17 & 9:4 and then rather loosely from Deuteronomy 30:12-14, adding his own explanatory comments to link these verses to Christ. His main point is that God has always offered salvation by faith apart from human effort, even under the law.

The problem is that Deuteronomy 30:12-14 seems to say that keeping the law is within the reach of every person. But Paul cites them for an opposite meaning, that salvation has nothing to do with human effort, but rather that God has provided everything so that all we must do is to believe in Christ. How do we explain this?

    Faith Is Necessary For Salvation

9 His disciples began questioning Him as to what this parable meant. 10 And He said, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is in parables, so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.11 “Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God. 12 Those beside the road are those who have heard then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they will not believe and be saved.- Luke 8: 9-12

Once we have recognized that salvation is in Christ, it is found only in Him we need to believe that what He says is true. Not just the intellectual assent that His sayings and promises and work are valid and truthful, but a faith that uses His word as a basis for one’s conduct and guarantee for personal salvation from death and condemnation.

Jesus pays us the ultimate respect as human beings by allowing us to express our free will in regards to salvation, by making faith one of the conditions . God the Father planned our salvation, God The Holy Spirit prepared the way for our salvation. God the Son accomplished it on the cross but Divinity leaves room for our faith in order to complete it. It isn’t much, to say “yes” to the Eternal God, but without that “yes” the plan, the preparation and the redemptive work of Christ is all for naught — In order to be saved, Jesus says that we first must believe!!

    … Jesus said that …

To Be Saved You Must Truly Believe In Jesus As The Crucified And Risen Lord And Savior

Romans 10:9-10: that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. In verse 9, Paul follows the order of Deuteronomy 30 , in your mouth and in your heart. In verse 10, he explains verse 9 in the logical order: First we believe in the heart and then that heart belief finds outward expression in confession with our mouths and with our lives.

    A. True faith is a matter of your heart relying on specific content regarding Jesus as the crucified and risen Lord and Savior.

Paul uses faith or believe in 9:30, 32, 33 10:4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14 , 16, & 17. Martyn Lloyd-Jones argues that in 10:9-10 Paul is giving us a definition of saving faith, showing us both its content and its character.

There are not two requirements here for salvation, namely, believing and confessing. Rather, the repeated emphasis on faith shows that faith is the only requirement. As Paul told the Philippian jailer in response to his question, What must I do to be saved? , Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved. Outward confession of Christ is the inevitable outcome or character of genuine saving faith.

    B. True faith confesses openly that Jesus is the risen Lord and Savior.

    Salvation Is From The Lord

When one considers all the facts relating to salvation and the preparatory work of the Spirit before one can be saved, it becomes obvious that simply assenting to the fact of the gospel and believing mentally that Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world does not result in salvation and is not really what can be called saving faith.

In the nature of faith, it is also important to realize that it must come from the whole man, that is, from his intellect, sensibility, and will. There has to be some mental understanding of what the gospel is in order to be saved, and the sinner coming to Christ should enter into the fact that it requires more than assentit requires an act of the whole person. This may involve not only the mind but the feelings, or sensibility, and, most of all, it involves the will, for faith is actually a step authorized by our will. The English word belief comes somewhat short of what is anticipated in the Bible, which is more accurately expressed as trust, or committing oneself to faith in Christ.

Accordingly, in Scripture faith in Christ is an act of the whole person. It involves the work of the Spirit in the conviction of sin and righteousness and judgment, and it involves Gods providing special enablement to one who is spiritually dead to believe in Christ. This is what the Bible defines as saving faith.

    The Gospel According To Peter

Finally, I want to focus on the gospel that Peter preached at Pentecost: What must men do to be saved? This is the most important matter of all. What is the gospel? What must we do in order to be saved? Some have said that one must be baptized in order to be saved, and they would point to our text to prove it. Is baptism necessary in order for one to be saved?

Dr. A. T. Robertson, now deceased, was probably the greatest Greek scholar of his day. He authored a large Greek Grammar, as well as a six volume series entitled, Word Pictures in the New Testament. In his comments on Acts 2:38 he shows how the grammar of this verse can be used to support more than one interpretation of this text. He then reaches this conclusion:

One will decide the use here according as he believes that baptism is essential to the remission of sins or not. My view is decidedly against the idea that Peter, Paul, or any one in the New Testament taught baptism as essential to the remission of sins or the means of securing such remission. So I understand Peter to be urging baptism on each of them who had already turned and for it to be done in the name of Jesus Christ on the basis of the forgiveness of sins which they had already received.9

Consider the evidence of these New Testament texts:

So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand people were added .

Baptism is not mentioned here as a condition for salvation.

What Is Salvation And What Does It Mean To Be Saved

The first thing we need to understand is what salvation is. Salvation is when a person receives eternal life in heaven. This happens when they believe in Jesus Christ and ask for forgiveness of their sins. When a person dies, they will go to either heaven or hell. If they have not asked for forgiveness, then they will go to hell. Heaven is a place of eternal life with God. Hell is a place of eternal punishment.

    Who Is Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is Gods son. Although he is eternal and lived in heaven beforehand, Jesus willingly left the comforts of heaven and came down to earth. He took on a human body for our sakes , lived a perfectly sinless life, experienced what we as humans go through, and then took the punishment for our sins by dying an excruciatingly painful death on the cross.

He died in our place. Then, he was raised from the dead on the third day, and ascended back to heaven. This is the Gospel ! Jesus is now currently sitting on the right hand of God the Father, reigning over his church , and waiting until the day when he will return for the judgment .
