This year I became a father for the second time.

We have a smart, caring 7 year old son who is turning into wonderful young man, and this year our second child was born, our little girl.

Shes only a couple of months old at this point, and every day its exciting to watch as she reaches new milestones and develops a personality all her own.

Becoming a father isnt something to be taken lightly, and I know that over the years Ive had my share of failures as a father. Whether its raising my voice too loudly when disciplining my son, or not displaying the best example of how to act, I know I have many areas I need to grow.

For me its important to look to Gods word to see the perfect example of what a father should be, to encourage me to work towards being more like my heavenly father.

Today I want to look at some Bible verses about fathers that talk about what it means to be a father, what a father should do for his children, and how we can be more like our heavenly Father on this Fathers Day.

  • Luke 15:20 “So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.”
  • Proverbs 23:24 The father of a righteous child has great joy a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.
  • Proverbs 22:6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

  • Psalm 127:3 Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in ones youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.
  • John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
  • Joshua 24:15 “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

Famous Fathers In The Bible To Spur On All The Fathers In Our Lives

Abraham: A leader with incredible faith, God gave Abraham the task of fathering an entire nation. God kept his promise to Abraham – that the saviour of the world would come through Abraham and Sarahs son. God was faithful to Abraham as he trusted Him for a son.

Genesis 21:1-2 Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.

Noah: Noah chose to trust in God. Though the building of the Ark took many years, his sons and daughter-in-law were right beside him. They could have walked away, but Noah taught them how to trust in God.

Noah made some mistakes in his old age, but he taught His sons to follow Gods ways.

Genesis 9:18-19 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the whole earth.

Zacharias: An angel appeared to Zacharias to announce the birth of his son, John. Zacharias was made mute after the announcement until John was born, teaching Zacharias to trust in God. As a priest, Zacharias undoubtedly taught his son much about the coming Messiah.

Luke 1:13 But the angel said to him: Do not be afraid, Zechariah your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.

They Make Time For Their Family

A good Christian father makes time for his family and anchors his family in Christ. He provides the needs of his family. No other teacher can affect a child as much as their parents. For this reason, its important that fathers teach their children both by their example and their words. A Christian father not only meets the physical needs of his family, but also the emotional needs of his family as well. The family turns to him as a support in all areas of need and he provides as best he can.

The Lord Disciplines Those He Loves

What does the Bible say about God the Father?

âMy son, do not despise the LORDâs discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.â

It may seem strange to think of discipline as a sign of love, but a lack of correction often comes from a lack of concern. While kids who are disciplined may wish they had more freedom from consequences, children who grow up with no rules or correction come to crave structure and even recognize it as a result of love.

The disciplined child may ask, âWhy do you even care?â And the answer is, âBecause I love you and care about your well-being, and I want the best for you.â The undisciplined child may question, âWhy donât you care?â

Bible Verses About Parents Duty To Meet Physical Needs

You are responsible to provide for your childrens physical needs. This means providing food, water, shelter, clothing, and more. Sometimes this means you must give up your own wants and needs to adequately provide.

But if anyone doesnt provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever .

A good man leaves an inheritance to his childrens children .

These are just a few of the great number of bible verses that speak to the responsibilities of proper stewardship, an essential to biblical parenting.

Impress Gods Commands On Your Children

âThese commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.â

This passage comes just after Moses shared the Ten Commandments with Israel, but for Christian fathers, the heart of this verse is that Godâs Word should be on our minds throughout our day, and we have a responsibility to teach our children what God desires.

Is Jesus God The Father

The earliest Christians maintained that Jesus was a human being who was made God – a god – a divine being. Later they ended up saying that Jesus was born to the union of God and a mortal because the Holy Spirit came upon Mary and that’s how she conceived Jesus, so Jesus literally had God as his father.

What Do We Mean When We Call God Father

31 Fathers Day Bible Verses [FATHERS DAY SCRIPTURES!] | Just Bible Verses

Are we just talking about our daddy issues, or are we saying something infinitely more significant for the human experience? One of the most imaginative and compelling attempts to answer those questions comes to us in C.S. Lewiss The Silver Chair.

In that book, three characters set out to rescue Narnias prince from the Underworld. During the escape, theyre snatched up by the Dark Queen. She then casts a spell that causes them to slowly lose their memory of the Overworld from which they came.

The Queen presses her captives to forget the Overworld. She tells them its just a figment of their imagination. But, of course, the prince pushes back. There IS an overworld! Its bathed in glistening light from the sun and ruled by a benevolent lion named Aslan.

The Queen laughs and points to a lamp across the room. Theres your sun. And, your Aslan is nothing more than an idealized version of a stray cat. No, dear children, this is the only world there is. Now, stop your wishful thinking. Sound familiar?

Spoiler alert: the crew eventually escapes. And, as the characters emerge into the brilliant sunlight, the Queens projection theory crumbles. There is an Overworld. The sun is real. And Aslan does reign.

I Have Come To Turn A Man Against His Father

âDo not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn

âa man against his father,

a daughter against her mother,

a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-lawâ

a manâs enemies will be the members of his own household.ââ

This is one of the more startling statements Jesus made in his earthly ministry. But he goes on to give us a better idea of what he means:

âAnyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.â âMatthew 10:37

Sometimes following Jesus pits us against the desires and perspectives of our family members. These moments reveal who truly holds the greatest importance in our lives and what we really love most. No matter how much we love our families, obeying God and honoring him with our choices should always take precedence.

Where Does The Bible Say That God Is Our Father

Scripture is filled with references to God as our father. Below are a few of my favorite passages:

“Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist,,,” 1 Corinthians 8“6

“One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:6

“Father of the fatherless and protector of the widows is God in his holy habitation.” Psalm 68:5

“But now, O Lord, you are our Father, we are the clay, you are the potter and we are the work of your hand.” Isaiah 64:8

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God, and so we are.” 1 John 3:1

“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

“And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:18

The Call For Obedience: Communication Of Truth

What Does The Bible Say About Christian Fathers?

Deuteronomy 6:1-2 Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which the LORD YOUR God has commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you are going over to possess it, 2 so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged.

Deuteronomy 4:10-11 Remember the day you stood before the LORD your God at Horeb, when the LORD said to me, Assemble the people to Me, that I may let them hear My words so they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children. 11 And you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the very heart of the heavens: darkness, cloud and thick gloom.

The experience at Horeb in Deuteronomy 4 was designed to produce a reverential fear of God in the hearts of the people so that a covenant between them and the Lord would be possible. In the Old Testament the fear of God is more than awe or reverence though it includes both. Fearing God is to become so acutely aware of His moral purity and omnipotence that one is genuinely afraid to disobey Him. Fearing God also includes responding to Him in worship, service, trust, obedience, and commitment.

Pray Pray Pray For Your Children And Family

Prayer will always facilitate the effort we put into teaching and training kids. Children who know that their dads pray for them daily feel loved and secure.

Fathers should pray for their childrens physical health, spiritual health, as well as their well-being. Parental prayer should be an integral part of the loving relationship between a father and his kids.

King David used to pray for his son, King Solomon. Prayer ensures your children never live in fear.

Furthermore, kids will emulate what their fathers do. They will learn to pray as you do.

A Father Should Never Take Away His Love

10 Bible Verses About Fathers/Dad

âI will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you.â

Speaking through Nathan, God promised David that he would treat Davidâs son as his own child. No matter what sins Davidâs son committed, and no matter how harshly he was disciplined, God promised that he would always love him.

God is the only perfect Father. But the way he loves his children is a model every father should aspire to.
