What The Bible Says About Loving One Another

Just As I Have Loved You You Must Also Love One Another

Bible Verses Love One Another | Powerful Scriptures About Loving Each Other

The Bible says we are to love one another. Sounds good, but can we do it? No, not without the Holy Spirit.

Some people are just irritating. Even people at church can be difficult to love. Sometimes we sing a chorus in church: Im so glad youre a part of the family of God, and then we look at the person beside us and sing, Im surprised youre part of the family of God. Just being real. Ive seen it happen. Sometimes its hard enough to love our own family.

So, how do we make love a dominating characteristic of our lives?

I. Make love a priority. Indeed loving people is difficult. Yet this is what the Bible commands. For this is the message you have heard from the beginning: we should love one another . We spend time on what we deem important. For many of us these choices are valid: time with family and friends, work, prayer, serving the poor, fighting for rights, protesting wrongs. But as the Scripture reminds us, And if I donate all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body in order to boast but do not have love, I gain nothing .

One another is two words in English, but its only one word in Greek: . Its used 100 times in 94 New Testament verses. 47 of those verses give instructions to the church, and 60% of those instructions come from Paul.

Kissy-kissy? Yes! Four of the one another commands are about kissing. But with all due apologies to David Crowder and John Mark McMillan, these kisses are neither sloppy, wet nor unforeseen.

When you look at these verses, a few more common themes show up.

Unity. One third of the one-another commands deal with the unity of the church.

  • Be at peace with one another

  • The Different Kinds Of Love

Since love is so important to the life of a believer, we need to understand what the Lord Jesus means when He commands us to love one another. The Greek language has several words to express the concept of love:

1.EROSThe word “eros” is used to describe the love of pleasure, the love of that which pleases me.

2.PHILIAThe word “philia” is used to describe the love of attraction. It is the warm love and affection that we have in a close friendship.

3.AGAPEThe word “agape” is used to describe the love of God. AGAPE love is that love which the Father has for His beloved Son. Jesus said to His Father, “You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” AGAPE love is also the love which God has for the human race. The Bible says,

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

Amazingly, this AGAPE love is the very same love that Jesus commanded us to have for one another. Jesus said,

“This is My commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you.” John 15:12

    No Exceptions To Love

And there are no exceptions. No Well, this person doesnt deserve it. Jesus laid down His life for us, the ultimate sign of how much He loved us. And no one has ever been less deserving than we are of that. To love does not mean to agree with someones sin, to say that everything that they do is OK. Rather, it is to bear with them, to pray for them, to have faith for them, to want the very best for them. It is action in spite of how I feel. Then I can come from having a natural dislike for someone to having a genuine love for them. In order to help someone and turn them from things that could be harmful to them, I can exhort, advise, or correct them, but only when I do it out of a genuine concern and care for them.

Every one I meet should sense a drawing to Christ through me. Love is what draws people. Goodness, kindness, meekness of heart, patience, understanding. How can someone feel drawn if their experience of me is impatience, haughtiness, rudeness, hate, etc.?

So if I feel that I am lacking in true Godly love, then I can pray to God that He can show me how I gain more of it. I need to be willing to give up my own self-will and think of the others before myself.

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three but the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13.

Bible Verses About Love For One Another

For through your knowledge he who is weak is ruined, the brother for whose sake Christ died. And so, by sinning against the brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.

He who conceals a transgression seeks love,But he who repeats a matter separates intimate friends.

A friend loves at all times,And a brother is born for adversity.

Now when Jobs three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, they came each one from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite and they made an appointment together to come to sympathize with him and comfort him.

If there is a poor man with you, one of your brothers, in any of your towns in your land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand from your poor brother but you shall freely open your hand to him, and shall generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks.

Step : I Must Count On The Fact That In Christ I Died To The Sin Of Unlove

I can be delivered from any sin by counting on the fact that, in Christ, I died to that sin. The Bible says,

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?” Romans 6:1-2 NKJV

No Christian should continue to live in sin. Why? Because, in Christ, he died to sin. And in Christ, we died to the sin of unlove. Let us make these verses personal:

What shall I say then? Shall I continue in this sin of unlove, that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall I, who died to this sin of unlove, live any longer in it?

Must I be a slave to this sin of unlove the rest of my life? No! God’s Word says that I died to this sin. I must step out in faith, believing God’s Word.

What Does The Bible Really Say About Love

The more we grow in our relationship with Christ, the easier it will be to love one another because it will be almost second nature to us. We will extend love to others because God has extended His love to us.

Love is a popular topic to discuss in the modern day. Mainstream Hollywood presents love in a radically different way than the truth of love in the Bible. Popular mainstream culture presents love as being lustful, infatuation, and a feeling however, true love in the Bible is presented to us differently. Love, according to the Bible, is putting someone else in front of you just as Jesus died for us.

Step : I Must Pray That Person Into My Heart

“Love One Another” [Singing Scripture 1 John 4:7] (2020 Songs)

Sometimes, even after I have asked God to work, nothing seems to happen. What do I do next? I begin to pray for that person. I pray that God will bless that person. I pray that God will bless him and help him. Often, as I pray earnestly and sincerely for God’s blessing upon the other person, God works in my heart to change me.

What Is The Meaning Of Called

To answer the question of why we are called, we need to read it in its context, which includes the preceding verse.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another .

The word call means to call into action, to summon. Jesus used the word command which is a bit stronger.

The word command in the original Greek means an injunction, ordinance, or law. Jesus was not only summoning with an authoritative order, but he was also instituting a new law to replace the law of Moses the law of love.

We are called to love one another so well walk in the new law of love.

Host A Friend For The Night

Do you have a friend who is having a difficult time? Offer to have them spend the night at your house to get away from it all. You can spend your evening in Bible study and prayer, watching a Christian movie, or something else that gets their mind off things. You can also share a favorite dinner or munch on your favorite snacks and beverages.

    Spend Some Time In Prayer

Its easy for all of us to get busy and send up a blanket or list prayer. Set aside some time for specific, strategic prayer every day. Pray for your friends particular situations with power and purpose.

Also, think about other Christians that need powerful prayer. Some examples are Christians in the military and even those who face persecution in foreign countries. Christians that are in prison also need lots of prayers. It doesnt matter if you know someone in this situation personally or not. Prayer is one of the best ways we can love others well.

Step : I May Need To Go See That Person

    Pin on School 2017

Sometimes God works a miracle when we go to see a person and talk with him. We often find, to our surprise, love welling up in our heart for that person. Jesus told the man with the withered arm to stretch forth his arm. As he obeyed the Lord, he found God’s power flowing into him, enabling him to do what he could not do before.

What Does The Bible Say About Relationships Is One More Important Than Another

The Bible is a book of relationships. It shows us what our relationship to God is meant to be and how we can have that kind of relationship. It shows us how we should interact and treat our fellow Christians. It shows us how we are to view those who do not believe. Because we can see and touch the physical world around us, many times it seems more real than the spiritual world in which we connect and communicate with God. This means that sometimes we let our earthly relationships become more important than our relationship with God. What does the Bible say about relationships?

When Is A Christian A Christian

Since the first and foremost of all God’s commands is to love theLord and the neighbor, the primary mark that identifies a Christianis the love he has for others. Jesus said, “By this all willknow that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Again and again we are asked to judge ourselves by thelove we have for others:

Let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and intruth. And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assureour hearts before Him.

If we love one another, God abides in us, as His love hasbeen perfected in us.

We know that we have passed from death to life, becausewe love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides indeath.

He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has notseen God.

Three Questions On Affection And Honor Toward One Another

â?¤ï¸? What Is Love? Biblical Answer! – Derek Prince

I have three questions: What? Why? And How? What is affection toward fellow believers, and what does it mean to honor each other? Why is this commanded? Why is it important? And finally, how to you experience it? How do you have affection for a believer you may not even like? How do you honor believers who may do dishonorable things?

    Practice Radically Ordinary Hospitality

I recently read a book called The Gospel Comes with a House Key, and it made a significant impression on me. It talks about the concept of radically ordinary hospitality. What does this mean? In a nutshell, it means opening your house to everyone, strangers and Christian friends alike.

Its the kind of hospitality that turns strangers into neighbors and points neighbors towards becoming members of the family of God. Its not pushy or harsh its about showing everyone love no matter what their situation is. I think this is an ideal way to love our Christian friends well and also to demonstrate Gods love to those who may not believe as well.

There are many ways we can love one another well. Lets pray.

The Story Of The Good Samaritan

Jesus spoke numerous parables in the Bible to inspire us and simplify what he meant. For example, the parable of the Good Samaritan explains what loving one another truly means.

The Bible describes a lawyer that tempted Jesus through his words. He said, What shall I do to have eternal life?. Jesus answered and said,

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and, Love your neighbor as yourself

Being knowledgeable in the things of this world, the lawyer asked again, Who is my neighbor?

Then Jesus explained further with a parable. He described a man traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho, and suddenly he was robbed and injured on the way. He was Half dead.

A priest and a Levite saw him and walked past him. Then came a good samaritan that saw him and had compassion for him. He felt his pain and anguish and carried him to the nearest Inn. The Good Samaritan treated his wounds and took care of him that day. The next day, before he departed, he took out two pence and paid the innkeeper.

Look after him, he said, and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.

In the end, Jesus asked the lawyer which of these men was the neighbor of the man. Is it the Levite or the priest who are well-versed in the works of God yet abandoned him? Or the unknown good Samaritan that stopped by and helped the man?
