John : 16 God Love For Mankind

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

~1 John 4:16

God gave his beloved Son sovereign power over all mankind.

As a consequence of Christs redeeming act at Calvary, Jesus can bestow everlasting life on everyone whom the Father has given to the Son.

True, godly love is the most potent proof that you have been born again as a child of God.

We may be assured in our connection with God and have no reason to fear death and His judgment when we live in obedience to Him, according to love.

Sarah’s Death And Burial

Pin by Caro Espinosa on Faithfully

23 Sarah lived 127 years these were the years of the life of Sarah.2 And Sarah died at Kiriath-arba Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.3 And Abraham rose up from before his dead and said to the Hittites,4 I am a sojourner and foreigner among you give me property among you for a burying place, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.5 The Hittites answered Abraham,6 Hear us, my lord you are a prince of God among us. Bury your dead in the choicest of our tombs. None of us will withhold from you his tomb to hinder you from burying your dead.7 Abraham rose and bowed to the Hittites, the people of the land.8 And he said to them, If you are willing that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me and entreat for me Ephron the son of Zohar,9 that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he owns it is at the end of his field. For the full price let him give it to me in your presence as property for a burying place.

Death And Burial Of Sarah

17 So the field of Ephron in Machpelah, which was to the east of Mamre the field and the cave which was in it, and all the trees that were in the field and in all its borders around itwere deeded over 18 to Abraham as his possession in the presence of the Hittites, before all who were entering at the gate of his city. 19 After this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah to the east of Mamre in the land of Canaan. 20 The field and the cave in it were deeded over to Abraham by the Hittites as a possession and burial place.

Footnotes

  • Genesis 23:2This comment indicates that the text was written at a very early date, before Israel entered the promised land, because afterward Hebron was well known. Not only was it conspicuous in Joshuas and Calebs day, but it became a city of refuge. Besides all this, David was king in Hebron for seven years.
  • Genesis 23:3The Hittites, along with the Egyptians and the Assyrians, were among the great powers in the ancient Middle East. They were famous for their fine horses, many of which were acquired by Solomon through trade. They also discovered and held secret the process of smelting iron when iron was treasured almost as much as gold. These Hittites were of Indo-European origin. The relationship, if any, between these Anatolian Hittites and the descendants of Canaans son, Heth, is unclear.
  • Genesis 23:19Here were buried Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, and Jacob and Leah .
  • Came To Save Not To Judge

That word judgment in this gospel has a special ring to it because most of this gospel is written to say Jesus didnt come into the world to judge. God is withholding judgment and sending a Savior. Thats John 3:17: For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. God is not in the moment of judgment here. Mainly, hes still gathering. Oh that Jerusalem would come and gather like little chicks under my wings. Im not here to condemn you, Im here to gather you.

John 8:51: Truly, truly, I say to you. Now let this sink in. The you who just called him a Samaritan, a racial slur, a half-breed. This is you who is not sure who his dad is. The you who says he has a demon. And this is the you who is about to come under the judgment of God. If they dont turn, he says, Truly, truly I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death . So, you blaspheming, dishonoring people, you dont have to see death, you just have to keep my word. Thats amazing.

Spirits Of Dead People Can Stay On Earth

    • Ecclesiastes 12:8Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it.

Vengeful ghosts, a kind ghost who helps the people they left behind, and many more stories have been around since ancient times. Some even believe that it takes a certain number of days for a soul to go where its supposed to go. However, it is clearly stated that after our body dies, our spirits return to God. It is not left to wander alone nor wait until tit finishes its unfinished business.

Though He Die He Shall Live

I woke up this morning. And the first thing at the top of the news list showed that a NASCAR driver died the previous night from a crash. Next thing in the news, 40 people dead in Iraq in a plane crash. I didnt even catch whether its our guys try to bring food to the trapped Christians. Daily Ebola death, daily Gaza deaths, daily Ukraine deaths, daily Christians persecuted all over the world. What do you mean, Jesus, you wont see death? I see it. I mean 50,000 people die a day in this world every day. Its not like death is a surprise.

So, what does he mean when he says, You will never taste death? Look at verse 51. Just see it. These are his words. He doesnt say, falsely, falsely will I say to you. He says, Truly, truly I say to you if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death or taste death .

One of the most powerful moments in my seminary life long time ago now was the funeral of James Morgan who had been my systematic theology teacher. I think he was 36 and he had four kids. He got stomach cancer. We had played handball together. He had taught me important things. We had argued together. And when I was at his funeral, Lewis Smedes, who taught me ethics, stood up with his long flowing white hair and in his booming voice said, James Morgan is not dead. My 24-year-old spine just tingled. His wife and kids were sitting in the front row. Hes not dead. Ive never forgotten that moment. It just landed on me like an avalanche of truth and power and grace.

    Destruction Of The Unrepentant

Pin by Kathy Jones on Speak Life

    Daniel 12:2, HBFV

And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

    Matthew 12:31 – 32, NASB

Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

    Hebrews 6:4 – 6, NLT

For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened – those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come – and who then turn away from God.

It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance . . .

    Revelation 20:10, 14 – 15, HCSB

The Devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet are, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever . . .

Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And anyone not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

    Revelation 21:8, TEV

But cowards, traitors, perverts, murderers, the immoral, those who practice magic, those who worship idols, and all liars – the place for them is the lake burning with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.
