Christian Quotes About Adultery

When adultery walks in, everything worth having walks out. Woodrow M. Kroll

Adultery occurs in the head long before it occurs in the bed.

Adultery is a moment of pleasure and a lifetime of pain. Its not worth it!

Divorce was never commanded, even for adultery. Otherwise God would have given His notice of divorce to Israel and Judah long before He did. A legitimate bill of divorce was allowable for adultery, but it was never commanded or required. It was a last resort to be used only when unrepentant immorality had exhausted the patience of the innocent spouse, and the guilty one would not be restored. John MacArthur

Passion is the evil in adultery. If a man has no opportunity of living with another mans wife, but if it is obvious for some reason that he would like to do so, and would do so if he could, he is no less guilty than if he was caught in the act. Augustine

The monstrosity of sexual intercourse outside marriage is that those who indulge in it are trying to isolate one kind of union from all the other kinds of union which were intended to go along with it and make up the total union. C. S. Lewis

Jesus Protects The Adulteress

In the New Testament, Jesus repeatedly forgives sinners, even his own torturers. The Gospel of John has Jesus interceding for an adulterous woman. The Pharisees bring the unnamed woman to court to test Jesus on Jewish law, but he refuses to debate. Instead, he tells the crowd that anyone who is without sin should throw the first stone. Instead of killing her, the crowd disperses, and Jesus tells the woman, Then neither do I condemn you…. Go now and leave your life of sin.

Should Christians Forgive Adultery

How do I forgive my husband for having an affair?

This article is written from the perspective of a woman whose husband has cheated on her. It is certainly not the case that only husbands cheat on their wives. Wives cheat too. Perhaps a second article will be written from the perspective of the cheated-on man. But for now, we look at the issue from the perspective of the woman, whose husband has broken his vow. I suppose I am writing from this perspective first because, as a man, it seems only fair to endure the scrutiny and need of forgiveness first.

I suppose every married man needs forgiveness. At least, thats what St. Matthew would say if he were writing this article. He doesnt mix his words: I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

The truth is, there isnt a married man on the face of this earth who hasnt had a lustful thought about someone other than his wife. So, according to Matthew, every wife is a victim of adultery.

Biblical Punishment For Adultery

In the Old Testament, the death penalty was given to both parties who committed adultery. In the New Testament, we are warned that those who live in a continual unrepentant lifestyle of sin, including sexual sins, may not have ever been saved to begin with. There are numerous verses that explain the danger of sexual sins. Adultery will leave scars. The sacred covenant has been violated and hearts have been broken.

20) Leviticus 20:10 If a man commits adultery with his neighbors wife, both the man and the woman who have committed adultery must be put to death.

21) 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

22) Hebrews 13:4 Let the marriage bed be held in honor by all and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled for God will judge fornicators and adulterers.

Adultery In The Heart

In Matthew, Jesus is taking the Seventh Commandment up a notch. Jesus is saying that adultery is so much more than just going to bed with someone who isnt your spouse. It is a heart issue. The Seventh Commandment is much more than you ticking off a box on the rules list. Jesus is saying lustful intent is the same thing as adultery. The physical act of adultery is just the external consummation of internal sin.

This sin always begins in the heart. No one just falls into sin its a slow slippery decline into sin. Sin is always born in the depths of our wicked heart.

8) Matthew 5:27-28 You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

9) James 1:14-15 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.

10) Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

    The Sacredness Of Marriage

Sex is not just a physical act to bring pleasure or to create the next generation. The Bible clearly teaches that sex was given to us to make us one flesh with our spouse. Yada is the Hebrew word used in the Old Testament to describe marital sex. It means To know and to be known. This is so much more than just a physical encounter. Sakab is the word used to describe sex outside of the covenant of marriage. It literally means an exchange of sexual fluids, and is also used to describe the mating of animals.

. The husband is to reflect Christ the servant-leader, the one who gave up His own will to serve for the good of His Bride. The Bride being the companion to work along side Him and to follow His leadership.

    12) 1 Corinthians 6:15-16 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be! Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, The two shall become one flesh.

    13) 1 Corinthians 7:2 But because of immoralities, each man is to have his own wife, and each woman is to have her own husband.

What The Scriptures Say About Fornication And Adultery

In the Scriptures, Jesus Christ carried the prohibition against adultery even further than the Mosaic Law: You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart . Therefore, even if a man does his best to legally avoid adultery by requesting for a divorce, he is already guilty because of the lust in his heart that drove him into taking such measures. Likewise, if a man legally brings another woman into the marriage, rendering it a polygamous marriage, he is still guilty of adultery because of the lust in his heart that motivated him to go for another wife.

Still in the light of the words spoken by Christ, if a man or woman indulges into lustful thoughts , then he/she is guilty of adultery even-though there was no extramarital physical contact that took place. This clear explanation by Jesus Christ avoids all of the worries about how far is too far with someone other than a spouse. Also, it avoids the need to define what sex really is. Lust, not sex, is the threshold of adultery.

    JENNIFER SPIRKO

    Replace Anger With Forgiveness

Weve all been wounded. I am no stranger to the pain I see in the eyes of so many people. We can try to cover it up and get over it, but if we dont truly forgive, we will be stunted individuals going about our lives and becoming more and more embittered. Forgiveness is essential. Its also possible.

The Bible doesnt mince words when it comes to forgiveness. We dont have to wonder what our heavenly Father thinks about the idea. Hes the author of forgiveness, and wed do well to follow His commands. Matthew 6:14-15 says, If you forgive other people when they sin against you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, you Father will not forgive your sins.

Ouch. That stings a bit, doesnt it? Especially when youve been wounded by someone youve loved as unconditionally as possible. It sounds like a cruel joke to expect us to just let it go, doesnt it?

Colossians 3:13 says, Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. If you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you know that you have a sinful nature. If we dont recognize that nature, we wont recognize our need for a Savior. We also need to understand and remember the true meaning of Gods love. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us . If we truly understand Gods forgiveness, can we really withhold our forgiveness from those who have hurt us?
