What About Transgender And Transsexual People

What does the Bible say about homosexuality?

TransgenderTranssexual

The Bible does not say anything specific about either situation. However, the book of Deuteronomy has a prohibition against dressing in clothing of the opposite sex:

A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this.

No one knows for sure whether this prohibition was intended as a general principle or was directed at some specific abuse among the ancient Hebrews. Cross-dressing was likely considered an affront to the natural distinction between the sexes ” rel=”nofollow”> Genesis 1:27). It may also have been related to some deviant sexual practice, or more likely, to pagan worship. It is known that some pagan rituals of that time involved women wearing armor and men dressing as women, and the Hebrews were forbidden to do anything that had even the appearance of pagan worship.

Gods Symbol Of Promise Becomes A Harbinger Of Wrath By Fire

Genesis 9:13 After the flood, God creates the bow as the symbol of His authority over the earth, specifically identified with His role as Judge of the Earth. With this symbol He promises never again to destroy the earth by flood , knowing that He will bring a final destruction in the last days by fire:

The rainbow is intimately associated with the person and power of God. As the appearance of the rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the surrounding radiance. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD reads Ezekiel 1:28, and a rainbow emanates from His throne in heaven .

It is not mere coincidence that the modern gay movement, so hostile to Biblical Christianity, has hijacked the symbol of the rainbow for itself. It is a hallmark of the Antichrist spirit to claim Gods throne for itself

Iv Jesus On Sexuality

When discussions of Jesus and homosexuality or the LGBT15 lifestyle come up some might try to claim that Jesus never dealt with the issue. However that is not really accurate. Jesus, as God, was a unique teacher. He often dealt authoritatively with the principles that were behind not just one action, but a whole host of possible ones. He often discerned through to the heart and intent of people and exposed both our sinful hearts, and His holy standard. The following two examples carefully show us that we all fall short and are desperately in need of Gods grace.

Is Being Gay A Sin

When one thinks of church LGBTQIA inclusion they immediately go to the clobber passages. There are seven passages in the Bible that are commonly read as prohibiting same sex intercourse. These are the passages that are used to justify exclusion of the LGBTQIA community from the kingdom of God. When studied in context they can also be used as justification for same sex relationships and full inclusion in the kingdom of God.

When it comes to biblical hermeneutics and inclusivity our church skipped over scriptures famous clobber passages. There is much more in our scriptures that speak to inclusion without describing the physical act of sex. I think theres incredible writing around meanings of ancient texts with regards to queer theology. .But instead, our church leadership studied the scripture and worked diligently to highlight stories of Gods love for humanity.

One of these stories was that of Abraham being told to sacrifice his son Isaac.

After these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, Abraham! And he said, Here I am. He said, Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.

In fact, people had such a hard time with this idea that God could be radically loving as to not want children sacrificed that God has to command it again in the book of Leviticus:

Are Homosexual Relationships Mentioned In The Bible

What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality?

In modern Western culture we associate touching, kissing and the word “love”with a sexual relationship. But that was not at all the case in Biblical era culture. Most Bible scholars say these relationships were no more than close friendships. That is especially clear in the case of Jesus and John – the word translated as “loved”was the Greek word agape, which means kindness and respect rather than romantic or sexual love.

Q5 Does Committing A Homosexual Act Automatically Mean One Is Going To Hell

No. Jesus came to bear the penalty of sin upon Himself and offer forgiveness to all who trust in His work on their behalf. Any who do truly trust in Him will not go to hell. In this way homosexual sin is the same as any other sin. It can be forgiven. Conversely, like every other sin, it too needs forgiveness, and it too needs to be overcome by the grace of God. See the biblical discussion above for more details.

Iii Homosexuality In The New Testament

In the New Testament many passages generally prohibit sexual immoral activity . These commands would include homosexuality. However, homosexuality is most explicitly discussed in three passages. The first of these three discusses homosexuality at length. Whereas the last two are in lists of sins. Like the discussion in the Old Testament section this will not be an attempt to discuss every possible issue arising from these texts. Rather the goal will be to express the Biblical and Christian view on homosexuality that these verses teach. As before, further resources will be noted for those desiring a deeper investigation.

Homosexuality Is Singled Out By God To Exemplify The Reprobate Mind And Identify The Period Of Apostasy Preceding The Return Of Christ

In Romans 1 homosexuality is singularly condemned as the sin associated with the reprobate mind and apostasy .

In 1 Timothy 1Homosexuals are equated with murderers, slavers and perjurers .

The condemnation of homosexual perversion in the Old Testament continues in the New Testament under Christ. The Apostle Paul expounds on the theme of natural law from the Biblical perspective, but also frames the discussion in an end-times context:

The phrase wrath of Godrevealed from heaven invokes both the incineration of Sodom and the coming destruction in the last days and associates it unmistakably with homosexuality.

Moreover, the characteristics of the end-times apostate culture are portrayed as a direct consequence of the embrace of homosexual perversion by the society .

being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful. And although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them

What About Environmental Conditions

What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality?

Studies have been conducted of identical twins who were separated at birth, where one developed a homosexual lifestyle but the other did not. Particular family or circumstantial patterns are sometimes seen in these cases to contribute to sexual orientation. But again, other interpreters disagree with such conclusions.

Sex Before Marriage Is A Sin

The New Testament also clearly teaches that sex before marriage is a sin. In Mark 7:21, Jesus gives a list of sins. Among them are sexual immorality and adultery. So there is sexual immorality that is not adultery. Sexual immorality refers, among other things, to sex before marriage. Paul says the same in 1 Corinthians 7:2: Because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. So if you want to have sex, there is only one way not to fall into sexual immorality: to have your own husband or wife.

A Positive View Of Sex Within Marriage

However, the Bible has a positive view of sex within marriage. Song of Songs speaks positively of the longing of a man and a woman for each other. Sex is not to be hidden because it is dirty, but it is to be protected because it is precious. Marriage is the protection that God has given us for this precious gift. Hebrews 13:4 encourages us let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled. Following Gods rules rather than our own desires is the best guarantee for our long term happiness, also in the area of our sexuality.

The Wickedness Of The Kings Of Judah And Israel Was Measured By The Degree To Which They Embraced Sexual Perversion

In 2 Kings 23, Josiah is named as the most righteous of all the Kings in part because he broke down the houses of the Sodomites who were in the House of the Lord ending what Solomon had begun 300 years before.

Central to the worship of the demon gods of the heathens were fertility rituals including practices involving sexual perversion, which is why God always equates idolatry with adultery in the Bible. As you read the following description of Josiahs reforms, remember that all of this idolatry was occurring in or near the Temple of God:

The sacred pillars and Asherim in this passage were fertility symbols, most likely including giant phalluses carved from oak trees, which were the central feature of the sacred oak groves often found on the high places where the demons were worshiped through male and female prostitution. The ritual of kissing under the mistletoe derives from this ancient pagan association of sex with oak trees, as mistletoe is a parasite most commonly found in oak groves.

Sex Is Part Of Gods Wonderful Creation

ALAM MO BA

Sex is part of Gods wonderful creation, and it is to be enjoyed in the way God designed it: within the bonds of marriage. The first chapters of the Bible already make this clear.

In the rest of the Bible, Gods design is always assumed. This is especially clear from the fine that a man has to pay for sleeping with an unmarried virgin and from the requirement that a woman should be a virgin on her wedding night .

A Homosexual Person Deserves To Be Treated With Dignity And Respect

He or she is acting out a lifestyle that many of us understand to be unbiblicalbut so are any of us who practice slander, gossip, heterosexual lust, or egotistical pride.

So-called gay bashing is always wrong. Any action or attitude that demeans a person or makes them less valuable is the opposite of the grace and unconditional love of Christ.

What Was The New Testament Attitude Toward Slavery

And how does this stance affect our study of the issue of homosexuality?

Slavery in the Roman era was dramatically different from the despicable practice as we know it in American history. If you had been walking through any first-century Roman city, you would not have been able to distinguish between slaves and free. Patterns of work, relationships, or faith were no different between the two. Slaves served not only to do manual labor but also as doctors, nurses, household managers, and intellectuals. They administered funds and cities. They were typically given an excellent education at the expense of their owners so that philosophers and tutors were typically slaves.

Even more amazing to us, it was common for people to sell themselves into slavery to secure such privileges. A person who desired citizenship in the Empire could achieve it by enslaving himself to a citizen, then purchasing his freedom. Slavery was more a process than a condition.

While there is no doubt that many slaves were abused physically, sexually, and socially, it is also true that at least as many were part of the more privileged strata of society. And the total dependence of the Roman economy upon the labor of slaves made it impossible for the Empire to conceive of abolishing this institution. If an economist were to propose that we refuse all goods and services imported from outside America, wed be equally surprised.

Does the New Testament then argue for slavery? Absolutely not.

Sexual Orientation Is Not A Sin

However, regardless of how we interpret the Bible’s teachings about homosexual acts, it is important to note that the Bible does not condemn people for being sexually attracted to persons of the same sex. It is sexual intercourse between persons of the same sex that is prohibited by Bible teachings.

A boy or girl who discovers homosexual feelings should realize that, like other interests and feelings, it may be only a passing phase that will fade away in time. Meanwhile, he or she should avoid becoming obsessed with the feelings or indulging in any kind of sexual activity.

A homosexual Christian man or woman is presented with great challenges, and great strength is often achieved by learning to deal with great challenges. Perhaps God has some special role in mind for that person that is best accomplished outside the restrictions imposed by traditional marriage and family duties.

V Conclusion: Loving In Truthmy Background

What does the Bible say about homosexuality?

The Bible is realistic about human nature. It tells us that we all fall short of Gods standard of righteousness, and thus none are righteous before Him . All other religions of the world somehow offer the hope that by self-effort heaven may be achieved. The Bible does not do that. Instead the Bible gives us Gods humanly-impossible-to-attain standard.

But then God intervened. While it was impossible for me to overcome, it was not impossible for God. He used a combination of His Word that I was reading, and of messages that I heard on the radio to open my eyes to the rest of the truth.

My journal at this time goes from records of my continual failures each day, of my heart being so hard against God, of my struggling anguish, of the realities of my sinfulness, of knowing that I needed to repent yet could not in my cold-heartedness to all of a sudden ecstatically thanking God for His amazing love.

What happened? Over time I had realized my sinfulness in its awful self-destroying reality. I realized fully my incapability. I could not fix my life on my own. I could not earn Gods love, approval, or forgiveness. In my pride and self-sufficiency I needed to see the realities of my situation before I would or could humble myself enough to throw myself entirely on Gods grace. But as I did see those realities and surrendered myself to Him, He opened my eyes to also truly realize His love and grace.

The Biblical Truth About Homosexuality

Pro-homosexual statements and actions are occurring more and more in our world. It shouldn’t be surprising to see a Christian response to the contrary. Of course, some “Christians” aren’t exactly shining examples of tact and grace, though such a tone should always be our aim. The New Testament urges Christs followers to share the truth in love . And the Holy Spirit enables us to explain what we believe with gentleness and respect .

But it’s usually the inarticulate, angry-faced ranter who gets the spotlight in our ’round-the-clock news world. Those kinds of “Christians” don’t speak for me and they certainly don’t represent Christ. True Christians graciously express what Christians have believed about marriage and sexuality for 2000 years. Do we really deserve the scarlet letter B now just for believing that the Bible teaches what’s best for families and for society? The Christian view of marriage does have a pretty good track record for promoting thriving civilizations, after all.

Why Do I Even Care?

Like any father, I wonder what kind of world my children are going to inherit when they’re adults. I have two sons and a daughter . Where the world is headed isn’t a huge worry that weighs me down, though, because I know the world belongs to God. Ultimately, He’s in control. In His mercy, he allows sinful people to do whatever they do, even as He gives them an opportunity to turn to Him.

David And Jonathan Ruth And Naomi

The account of David and Jonathan in the Books of Samuel has been interpreted by traditional and mainstream writers as a relationship of affectionate regard. It has also been interpreted by some authors as of a sexual nature. Theologian Theodore Jennings identifies the story as one of desire for David by both Saul and Jonathan, stating, “Saul’s jealousy has driven into Jonathan’s arms.”Michael Coogan addresses the claim of the alleged homosexual relationship between David and Jonathan and explicitly rejects it.

The story of Ruth and Naomi is also occasionally interpreted by contemporary scholars as the story of a lesbian couple. Coogan states that the Hebrew Bible does not even mention lesbianism.

How Should Christians Respond To Homosexuals

Im writing today with several personal friends especially in mind: a mother of a gay son, a brother of a gay sister, a son whose father is divorcing his wife and announcing his homosexuality, and a close college friend who several years ago declared his homosexuality and is no longer in vocational Christian ministry.

What would I say to these four people if they were reading this essay?

Two comments are easy to make, the other two not as much so.
