How Does One Gain Eternal Life Bible Verses

What does the Bible say about eternal life?

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” “I am the living bread that came down out of heaven if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.”

What Is The Solution

The solution to the problem of the law is to trust in Jesus by faith alonenot by faith in your works. The gospel message is that Jesus Christ, who is God in flesh , fulfilled the law perfectly and never sinned . He fulfilled the Old Testament requirements of being a proper sacrifice for our sins . Jesus did everything that is necessary when he fulfilled the Law. Therefore, we are justified without the works of the law and must put our faith and trust in what Christ did .

Parallel Verses

  • Luke 18:18-23, And a certain ruler questioned Him, saying, Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 19 And Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. 20 You know the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother. 21 And he said, All these things I have kept from my youth. 22 And when Jesus heard this, He said to him, One thing you still lack sell all that you possess, and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven and come, follow Me. 23 But when he had heard these things, he became very sad for he was extremely rich.

Salvation Is Just The Beginning

Jesus Christ emphasized that following Him requires a great deal of effort and sacrifice from those who would be His disciples. The acceptance of Jesus as Savior leads to challenges, choices and difficult decisions: “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whosoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it” .

This level of effort involves much more than mere mental or intellectual acceptance. Acceptance of and faith in Jesus requires that our priorities change, as He made clear. Our lives are no longer just our own, but are dedicated to following Christ. If we do what we want, He said we will lose our lives. We are required instead to do what Jesus commands.

This demands living, active, deeply committed obedience, which demonstrates our faith in His sacrifice for us and in His leadership over our lives.

Upon his return, the nobleman demands to know what each servant has accomplished. He rewards two of his servants because they increased what he had given them. The third servant claimed he was so afraid of losing the initial amount that he didn’t even try to invest it.

That servant’s fear and subsequent lack of obedience proved he was unfaithful. In the parable, Jesus Christ Himself, represented as the nobleman, judges the unfaithful servant to be an enemy and condemns him .

What Is Eternal Life

Eternal Life generally refers to life after death according to Bible principle.

May I state here categorically that following Christs gift of righteousness to every believer is the gift of eternal life.

The Bible stated in Hebrews 1:11 that one of the reasons why Christ came and died is to deliver those who are held in eternal bondage of fear of death. It is therefore amazing to discover that very many professing believers today still manifest this same fear in many ways.

Such folks represent the Scripture as insincere when it says we have been given eternal life. They still live in doubt as to whether they will get there or not. Just like the Jews in Acts 13:46 Judged themselves unworthy of everlasting life. And in Bible Verses on Eternal Life, Acts 13:47 to say that as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

The book of 1 John 5:11-13 reads thus

And this is the record that God has given to us eternal life and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God that ye may know that ye haveeternal life and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

What Is Eternal Life According To The Bible

Bible Verses About Eternal Life: Find the Way of Eternal Life

Eternal life is a free gift of God to those who believe in Jesus Christ. Eternal life begins when we put our faith in Jesus. As believers in Christ, eternal life continues with God after our physical death. Eternal life is the quality of life that results when we know Jesus Christ by experience, on a first-hand basis.

How Abraham Proved His Faith

To emphasize the importance of faith, Paul said in Romans 4:13Romans 4:13For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.American King James Version×that Abraham’s righteousness was imputed to him and promises were made to him because of his faith, not his works of obedience to the law. But how did God know Abraham was faithful?

Remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:21Matthew 7:21Not every one that said to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven.American King James Version×, quoted earlier: Belief is pointless unless it is proven by action and obedience.

The apostle James explains that faith and obedience go hand in hand: “But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?

“And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, ‘Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.’ And he was called the friend of God. You see then that a man is justified by works and not by faith only” .

The point is made again that works do not make us righteous, justify us or earn us eternal life, but the works of obedience provide the evidence and proof that we have faith, by which we are saved.

The Parable Of The Rich Man And Lazarus

Have class members read and discuss the parable in Luke 16:1931.

  • After the rich man died, what did he ask Father Abraham to do for his brethren? How did Abraham respond? What does this teach us about listening to the prophet?

  • What does this parable teach us about the importance of caring for the poor?

Youth may enjoy dramatizing this parable. Place two class members on one side of a barrier such as a row of chairs , and another class member on the other side. Have a fourth class member be the narrator. Have the class members read their lines directly out of Luke 16:1931, with the narrator reading everything that is not directly spoken by one of the other characters.

Eternal Life Is Through Christ Jesus Our Lord

Jesus Christ is the medium through which God imparts salvation and the bridge that God uses to connect us. This means that when we receive Jesus, we get this gift.

Leading up to Romans 6:23, Paul explained that our belief in and application of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in our lives is actually what frees us from our bondage to sin and penalty of death. This spiritual truth is demonstrated beautifully by believers baptism by immersion .

In other words, because Jesus died, we do not have to die, and because Jesus lived again, we can live again. This is the great hope that Christians have in Christ. John prophecies in the Book of Revelation that:

Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such thesecond deathhas no power .

Eternal Life Is Quite Different And Distinct From Natural Physical Or Human Life

10 BIBLE VERSES ON SALVATION WITH PRAYERS – Bible Verses About Salvation and Eternal Life KJV

This portion of scripture makes that quite clear for example, in verse 12, some have eternal life and some do not. All have human, physical, natural life, but all do not possess eternal life. They are two quite different kinds of life. See what Jesus said in John 5:40 all those to whom He was speaking had physical, natural, human life, but they lacked spiritual, eternal life. What then is eternal life? It is Gods life, divine life, and therefore of a different kind and quality from human life. It is more than existence it is more than eternal existence it is to share in the unending life of God Himself – look up 2 Peter 1:4. The whole human race will exist eternally, but those who have eternal life will live eternally.

Revelation 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief.

Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Matthew 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes go you out to meet him.

Revelation 2:11 He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches He that overcomes shall not be hurt of the second death.

Obedience Earns Us Nothing

Jesus used a story to illustrate that we can earn nothing through obedience. “And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’? But will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink’? Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do'” .

When a servant meets a minimum standard required of him by his master, he has simply done his duty, according to Jesus Christ. We must realize that obedience earns nothing obeying is our duty and is required for us to receive the gift of eternal life.

In Matthew 16:27Matthew 16:27For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels and then he shall reward every man according to his works.American King James Version×Jesus makes a vital point about the relationship between works and eternal life: “For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.” When Jesus Christ returns, He will judge and reward us according to our efforts, works and obedience.

Obedience Is The Evidence Of Faith

But, if God wants to freely give us eternal life based on our faith in Jesus, what does obedience have to do with anything?

Obedience is not an attempt to make ourselves righteous or to earn God’s favor and eternal life. Instead, obedience is an expression of our deep, abiding faith in His promises. Even though we realize God requires us to obey, we learn that obedience is not something we do reluctantly or begrudgingly.

Instead, obedience is a willing expression of our love and gratitude for all He is willing to give. It is a confident and enthusiastic expression of our faith in God’s promise of the gift, for “without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” .

The apostle John confirms that there is no contradiction between faith and obedience. On the contrary, there is a clear connection between the two: “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” .

Through obedience, we demonstrate our faith in Jesus, overcome the world and accomplish God’s purpose. John also adds that obedience to God’s commands is not an unreasonable burden.
