Should A Marriage Be Unconditional Love
True mature love should come with no strings attached. It is a behavior, rather than a feeling, a point of confusion that can lead to the breakdown of romantic relationships. If a relationship is hurting you more than it is good to you, it is okay to feel unconditional love but let the relationship go.

Difference Between Conditional And Unconditional Love
A clear distinction is commonly understood: Conditional love is earned on the basis of certain conditions that should be met, while unconditional love is given freely and completely without expecting anything in return. Loving conditionally means to love if the object deserves the love, whereas loving unconditionally means to love despite the object being unworthy of love.
As we have seen earlier the conditionality of Gods love, let us now look further to the other soul-reviving aspect of Gods love.
Unconditional Love Isnt Relationship Insurance
Feeling or receiving unconditional love also doesnt mean that your relationship is shatterproof. Breakups and divorces happen even when unconditional love is present . Sometimes enforcing your personal boundaries will be a driving force behind leaving unhealthy relationships . You can still love people from afar when necessary for your personal wellbeing and safety.
Unconditional love can be experienced as:
- A selfless act
- Unconditional positive regard
Love like this can outlast marriages because its not attached to contractual ways of loving or what only one person can provide in return . Without this binding force, youre free to find your own happiness and love exactly as comes naturally because youre not doing it performatively .
Unconditional love can also be defined by everything its not. Like all kinds of love, the concept of conditional love exists on a spectrum. It can sound like many things from stark remarks to subtle and insidious comments:
- After all I have done for you, you owe me this.
- If you love me, youll do .
- I need you to forgive me right now!
- Dont you love me?
- I would have expected at least a thank you.
- I did all that, not that I expected anything in return, but something would have been nice.*
- You know, they could have at least acknowledged the amount of effort I put in.
- And any and all phrases starting with, If it wasnt for me

What Does The Bible Say About Unconditional Love In A Marriage
The phrase, unconditional love is found nowhere in Scripture. We read For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life . Those who encourage us to love unconditionally take this to mean that God loves us all unconditionally.
Bible Verses About Unconditional Love
The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying,I have loved you with an everlasting love Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.
What is desirable in a man is his kindness,And it is better to be a poor man than a liar.
Seek the Lord while He may be found Call upon Him while He is near.
Incline your ear and come to Me.Listen, that you may live And I will make an everlasting covenant with you,According to the faithful mercies shown to David.
Indeed, true companion, I ask you also to help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement also and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.

Forgiveness Is The Soil That Allows Unconditional Love To Grow
So often, people hurt us and we become a victim of their sin. While we may get over it, we dont always do the work of healing ourselves from that pain.
The main salve of healing is to forgive those who have hurt you. Forgiveness is so important to Jesus that He not only tells us to forgive seventy-times-seven, but also warns us that if we dont forgive others, He wont forgive us. Those are harsh words!
A lack of forgiveness leads to anger, disappointment, and when unchecked, bitterness. And bitterness becomes the root of not loving others. If left unchecked, that root will burrow into the ground so deep it becomes almost impossible to uproot.
Yet, when we let others out of the jail cell of unforgiveness, they are free to love themselves, and we are free to love them in a new way. That is unconditional loves power.
Unconditional love might be a foreign concept to you, but it doesnt have to be. When we love, forgive, and see others with new eyes because we have let Jesus meet our needs for love and intimacy, we are set free. Thats the power Jesus death afforded us.
Unconditional love is available to you today. Will you love others the way Jesus loves you?
Love Is Not How You Feel It Is More About How You Act
Try to think of love in this way and you wont go far wrong. If you treat love as a feeling, when you are getting something from someone else and then you stop getting it then your feelings will change along with your behavior. An example of this is when you try to be someone you arent, or perhaps you have to do something in order to receive love: these then make love conditional.
However, if you start to act a certain way and are not requiring someone else to be something they are not, then that love is unconditional. Your love is not based on what someone else does or says, which means you can continue to act the same way regardless of how other people behave.

A Godly Man Is Defined By How He Treats His Woman
Yes, how you unconditionally love the wife given to you by God is what defines it all.
Lets look at what this Bible verse says in Genesis 2 verses 22-23 Then the lord God cause the man to fall into a deep sleep and while he was sleeping he took one of the mans ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 The lord God made the woman from the rib he has taken from the man and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, this is now the bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh and shall be called woman for she was taken out of man.
The woman was taken out of man and so God expected every man to treat his wife with love and respect. You may hear some men say, I love my wife! But, looking at their actions you only get confused because they do the opposite of what they confess. Do you know that love is explained and understood better in actions and not just in words?
To better understand this lets look at John 3:16: For God so loves the world that he gave his one and only son and that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. This verse shows that God loved so much that it pushed him to do something send his son to save us from our sin. God is the ultimate example of love, because love causes us to do loving ACTIONS for the ones we love.

How To Make Your Child Feel Loved
My son recently informed me that I do not love him as much as his friends mom loves his friend, because she lets him have whatever he wants. I let him know that it is because I love him that I dont let him have whatever he wants and that his friends mom probably says no more than he sees.
As much as we might feel and act loving towards our kids we cant make them feel anything. A great phrase I love to use for helping us understand how our actions impact each others feeling is,
When you ______, I feel_________.
If your child is verbal you can ask, What do I do or say that makes you feel loved? Another great tool to help you demonstrate love in the way your child receives it is the book The Five Love Languages of Children.
Either way you look at it, learning how to love your child in a way that they can receive it requires being a student of your child. Ask, listen, observe and adjust your words and actions accordingly. Do loving things that are within the bounds of whats protective and nourishing. Sorry, son, giving you candy whenever you want is not how I am going to show that I love you.
