OKLAHOMA CITY An Oklahoma City church is facing harsh allegations, including physical, mental and sexual abuse.
The allegations are being laid out in an open letter to the Church of the Harvest posted online.
This is what happened. This is what weve gone through, said Elijah Travis, a former church intern and student.
Travis says at 18 years old, church leaders forced him into endless hours of work, at the expense of his own health.
He and other interns say the demands were all made to strengthen their faith.
They were kind of like grooming us to be the servants that they wanted, said Travis.
We were told it was the work of God. Were doing Gods work so we should be grateful, said Nikiera Everett, another former intern.
Much of the work was allegedly done in deplorable conditions.
The only way I can explain it is like a compound. They were all cement walls. There were no windowsMold growing in the wallBugs, centipedes, snakes, said Travis.
All of the dorms were rat infested. We had to build our own furniture, said Everett.
Other accusations are physical. Many say theyve experienced both sexual harassment and abuse.
One victim, whose identity KFOR is protecting, says shes been trying to heal for 15 years.
Ive known I wasnt the only one for a long timeI gave up hope that anything would ever be done.
She says she was 20 years old when she came forward to church leadership.
Former Members Calling For Church Of The Harvest
She asked to go home. He drove her to Hafer Park.
I said STOP! You have to stop, and he turned me around. He grabbed me and spun toward me. I had on a button down shirt. It had pearl snaps, and he ripped it open and he grabbed my breasts. I started screaming and sobbing.
Capshaw Bagnaro did not report the incident to authorities when she says it happened, in October of 2001.
I never told my parents because I felt ashamed.
However, she claims she told the Pankratz family about the sexual assault.
I recall his sister saying to me, Oh no. Hes done this again to one of my friends.’
Today, she reads through the heartache of thousands of others, grieved with a secondary wave of guilt because she did not speak out back then.

OKLAHOMA CITY The sprawling campus of Church of the Harvest opened in 1989 with just one building.
Three decades of prosperity under the leadership of the Pankratz family and the church grew to a small empire.
Kirk and Nancy Pankratz are the founders. Their son, Grant Pankratz, was promoted to Senior Pastor in March of 2018.

A swarm of angry ex-followers are now calling Church of the Harvest a Christian concentration camp.
It felt a bit like indentured servitude, said former employee Malika Cox.
Years ago, the church added a school, a camp and eventually a two-year program they call a college, where interns pay to come, learn and work.
I think its common in non-denominational churches without oversight, Cox said. They have these internships or two-year unaccredited colleges. Its a great ability to have a workforce that you dont have to pay.
Cox worked at Church of the Harvest off and on for 15 years.
She described the honor culture perpetuated at Harvest.

OKLAHOMA CITY Over two thousand people have signed a petition calling for Church of the Harvest to close after numerous members shared stories of physical, mental, and sexual exploitation.
Branden Palesano, one of the people who started the petition, was a church intern from 2013-2015.
Theres tons of spiritual trauma, theres ton of mental abuse, sexual abuse, and finally people are coming forward and its been going on for 20 years, he said.
He created a Facebook post about his internship experience after talking to a friend, and many other people started sharing their experiences as well.
Nikiera Everett was an intern back in 2009.
All of the dorms were rat infested, we had to build our own furniture that was supposed to be provided for us, it was just filthy going in and horrible there, she said.
Eric Herrera took part in a college program. He also says the church had him living in terrible conditions and worked him to the point of exhaustion.
I would be done with work around 2 in the morning, 1:30, somewhere around there. So any given day, youre running on two to three hours of sleep, he said.
Online, people have accused church leaders of inappropriate sexual relationships.
Former interns say they were told all the hardships they endured was to enhance their spirituality.
We were told it was the work of God were doing Gods work so we should be grateful, Everett said.
More Victims Come Forward As Allegations Against
Kirk Pankratz addressed the allegations last weekend from the pulpit.
I know, church family, over the last 72 hours there have been a lot of concerning and disturbing issues that have been posted on social media. We are very aware as we see that happening. I want you to know we are working with outside professionals that have already started working with us in our church, said Kirk Pankratz.
KFOR was unable to confirm official roles for either Kirk or Grant Pankratz as the church did not return our calls, and the Meet the Team section of the church website has been taken down.
Leaders are now promising transparency and accountability.
On June 19, Kirk posted a letter on the church website announcing the resignation of his son, Grant.
Thousands are calling for the church to shut their doors through a Change.org petition.
One victim tells KFOR she plans to file a civil lawsuit.
