How To Report Abuse
The Archdiocese of Newark takes very seriously any and all complaints of sexual misconduct by members of the clergy, Religious and lay staff of the Archdiocese. We encourage anyone with knowledge of an act of sexual misconduct to inform the Archdiocese immediately so that we may take appropriate actions to protect others and provide support to the victims of sexual abuse. Although we will report all allegations of abuse immediately to the appropriate County Prosecutor, we encourage anyone with an allegation of abuse also to reach out to the prosecutor. Individuals who report an allegation of sexual misconduct may do so by calling the Victims Assistance Coordinator of the Archdiocesan Office of Child and Youth Protection at 201-407-3256. The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea is a Minor Basilica of the Catholic Church located in Key West, Florida, United States. It is one of the oldest Catholic parishes in the state of Florida and the oldest parish in the Archdiocese of Miami. The church is a contributing property in the Key West Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Key West Historic District is a located in , . It encompasses approximately 4000 acres , bounded by White, Angela, Windsor, Passover, Thomas and Whitehead Streets, and the Gulf of Mexico. It contains 187 historic buildings and one structure.
On February 24, 1983, the district was expanded to 5400 acres , bounded by Emma, Whitehead, White, and South Streets, Mallory Square, and the Atlantic Ocean, to contain 2485 historic buildings and four structures.

The mission of the Church, following the Great Commission of our Lord to his apostles, is to make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Given that mission, the vision of St. Mary Star of the Sea parish is to invite the parish family to know and receive the love and fullness of life that is offered by Jesus Christ and to share His love and life with others as His disciples.

Al Capones Boyhood Roots In Brooklyn
Alphonse Gabriel Capone made his name as a gangster in Chicago. But where did young Al get his start? Brooklyn, of course.
His parents arrived there from Naples in the 1890s, first settling on Navy Street and then moving with their eight kids to an apartment at 38 Garfield Place .
It was one of two addresses on the block the Capones reportedly called home.
The Garfield Place building is on the perimeter of Park Slopewhich back in Als day was just another rough and tumble South Brooklyn neighborhood.
Like other neighborhood kids, the fat boy from Brooklyn, as his New York Times obituary states, attended Public School 133 on Butler Streeteither dropping out or getting expelled for hitting a teacher.
Later he was married at St. Mary Star of the Sea church on Court Street in Carroll Gardens.
A History Of St Mary Star Of The Sea Parish
The population of Bergen Point prior to 1845 consisted of some 3,000 citizens, mostly Dutch farmers. An important event, however, was coming into focus over 3500 miles away. This was the failure of the potato crop in Ireland that would significantly change the way of life of thousands of Irish Catholics whose livelihood depended on the humble potato, the mainstay of the Irish diet. True, many of the sons and daughters of Erin had already taken part in the colonizing of America, yet the arrival in those famine years of over a million of the dispossessed Irish from their native land was unprecedented in American history. While others of these uprooted people found new homes on Europe, Australia, Canada and the islands of the West Indies, some arrived at Bergen Point. Most of the exact facts concerning this small, brave pioneering group, our spiritual ancestors, are lost to the passage of time.
We, the heirs, of this intrepid group, are indebted to these sturdy wanderers, who not only were persecuted by absentee English landlords in their homeland, but encountered religious oppression in their new home. New Jersey, in the middle of the last century, was no haven of tolerance for sons and daughters of the Gael.
This period for Our Lady Star of the Sea ended when Fr. Niederhauser was appointed rector and the church was incorporated on July 17, 1865. Fr. Niederhauser served six years and was succeeded by Fr. Patrick McGovern, who served five years.
