Bible Verses About Searching

And He told them a parable, saying, The land of a rich man was very productive. And he began reasoning to himself, saying, What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops? Then he said, This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.read more. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.

Now Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, and Jacob said to his sons, Why are you staring at one another? He said, Behold, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt go down there and buy some for us from that place, so that we may live and not die. Then ten brothers of Joseph went down to buy grain from Egypt.

My eyes fail with longing for Your word,While I say, When will You comfort me?

As Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel looked, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they became very frightened so the sons of Israel cried out to the Lord. Then they said to Moses, Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt with us in this way, bringing us out of Egypt? Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.

How To Find Your Life Bible Verse

Weve all heard them from our pastors, or a visiting missionary, or a favorite Bible study leader believers explaining how their life verse has been a guiding force over the years, or gave them hope and strength during a tough time.

Have you ever been asked to share what your life verse is? Did you find yourself squirming in your seat, hoping you wouldnt be called on, because you just werent certain if you had a life verse? Or wondered if you even knew what a life verse waslet alone how to find yours? Well, not to worry youre not alone!

What is a Life Verse?

Simply put, a life verse is a Bible verse, or even a small passage of inspirational Scripture, that speaks to your heart directly. Its one of those verses that you feel was written just for you and jumps off the page whenever you read it.

So, how do you find your life verse? Before you begin, know that this isnt a test. There isnt a right or wrong answer so dont let yourself feel pressured. Enjoy your time in the Word and let God speak to you during this process. Here are five steps to help you choose your life verse:

1. Write Down Your Favorite Bible Verses

Start a list of options for your personal Bible verse. Think about verses that have encouraged you in the past, or ones that you have been drawn to during stormy times. Think, too, about some of your favorite hymns or worship songs. Many quote Scripture directly and that may be a good place to start.

2. Reflect on the Scripture

How To Automatically Look Up Multiple Bible Verses At Once

I receive numerous questions about biblical cross-references such as this one:

Almost any Logos resource contains numerous cross-references on a given page. I know I can preview a verse by hovering on the blue hyperlink and I can take my Bible there by clicking it. Im also aware of creating a Passage List of the references, but then I have to delete the file when Im finished with it.

What I want is a temporary list of verses so I dont have to delete a file or click a lot of hyperlinks. Is this possible?

Yes it is with a feature called Power Lookup! Heres how to create the temporary list of verses the Logos user inquired about:

    • Open a resource to a page containing biblical cross references such as Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary to the article Jericho
    • Choose Tools | Power Lookup
    • Notice as soon as Power Lookup opens it automatically looks up the cross-references visible on the current page in the dictionary
    • Navigate to a completely different page in the dictionary and Power Lookup instantly displays the verses visible on that page

To only look up some verses on the page:

    • Select text, containing cross references, in the dictionary
    • Notice Power Lookup only displays the verses in the selected text

Please note, Power Lookup is set to follow the active panel. If you have multiple resources open and want Power Lookup to only display verses from a specific resource, then use a link set on the panel menu to link Power Lookup to the desired resource.

Vote for or suggest verses that you think are especially relevant for a topic. Help improve it.

Searching for a word will automatically add it.

Please note that I didnt come up with the list of topics or suggest the verses peoples actual behavior has shaped them. I moderate some of the more offensive topics, however.

Looking Up A Verse With A Concordance

  • 1Choose a concordance. A concordance is a book that lists every instance of a words appearance in the Bible. This is a great tool if you remember the verse, or part of the verse, but you dont know which book or chapter it came from.XResearch source
  • Concordances can be found through religious retailers or online. Your church may also have one that you can borrow.
  • 2Search for a word from the verse. Remember an important word from the verse. Look it up in the concordance the same way that you would look it up in a dictionary. Concordances are alphabetized.XResearch source
  • Choose a distinctive word that may have limited occurrences, such as flood, mountain, or rubies. If you choose something like love or evil youre likely to find an enormous number of results.
  • 3Search for other words if necessary. If you find too many results, or you dont see the verse youre looking for, try searching for another word. For example, if you remember the phrase, love must be sincere and you searched love but found too many results, try looking up, sincere.XResearch source
  • 4Locate the verse from the concordance list. The concordance will list all of the places where that word is found in the Bible. A complete concordance will give you some context so that you can be sure its the verse youre looking for.XResearch source
  • Use the location that the concordance gives you to look up the complete verse and its context in your bible.

I sometimes used to try searching a Bible website because it was easy to get tosince Im often already in my browser. But I gave up, because most of the time I get either way too many hits or I got this:

    NO RESULTS COULD BE FOUND

I tried it again, for old times sake, and sure enough, thats what my search for declared to be the son of God with power got me.

Man! I know that phrase is in there! But where? And which Bible translation is it in?

Search From The Command Box With Keyboard Shortcuts

I like my computer to obey me quickly, sweetly, and completely. Especially for my most common exegetical tasks, I want speed. Theres an even faster way to search your top Bibles for declared to be the son of God in power, a way that doesnt involve using a mouse at all, and is therefore fast.

For the animated gif below, I used my mouse to show you what I was doing. But the mouse is not actually necessary. You can search your top Bibles with two keyboard shortcuts:

  • Hit Alt+D in Windows or Option-Command-L on Mac to bring the focus to the command box.
  • Hit Ctrl+Enter
  • A search window pops up that searches all the Bible translations Ive chosen to be part of my Top Bibles, which for me is the ESV, KJV, NASB, NIV, and HCSB.

Logos finds my verse and reveals to me why I wasnt finding it in the online Bible: I missed one little word. I had the KJV in my head , so searching just the ESV wasnt going to find the statement I was looking for. Logos searches all the translations Ive got mixed up in my head, and it finds what I need.

How I Teach How To Find Bible Verses In Sunday School

Its actually a very similar style. We spent the first 10-15 minutes of Sunday School looking up Bible verses. I gave them an M& M if they brought their Bible, and another if they brought back their prayer request card.

The same rules applied to my Sunday School students. The same kid couldnt win the prize twice in a row, BUT if I got a large enough group of kids, around 8, I would allow two kids to win the competition.

Since kids have different skill levels I adjusted for this several different ways. Sometimes I paired a faster kid with a slower kid. The slower kid had to be the one actually touching the Bible. Other times I would give different skill level questions. For easy questions, they just had to find the book of the Bible, and for more difficult I asked them to actually answer a question from the verse.
