Where Else Is The Name I Am In The Bible

Who You Say I Am – Hillsong Worship

The Tetragrammaton appears over six-thousand times in the Bible, even in modern English translations. The Hebrew scribes were very careful to neither say aloud, nor fully spell out the holy and sacred name of God, Yahweh. Instead they would put it in all capital letters, and say Adonai. They put the vowels of Adonai into the consonants of Yaweh to get YAHOWAH, which English Christians translated into Jehovah. Today, any time a translator wants to acknowledge where YHWH is in the original Hebrew text, they use the word LORD in all capital letters.

Some examples include:

Isaiah 8:1 Then the LORD said to me, Take a large tablet and write on it in common characters

Psalm 149:1 Praise the LORD! Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly!

Proverbs 21:3 To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

Perhaps the most significant use of the name I AM in the Bible comes from Jesus Christ. The religious leaders would often try to catch Jesus in heresy, in a lie, or blaspheming so they could be rid of him. In John 8, the Jewish people challenged his authority, and they brought up Abraham. Jesus tells them how glad Abraham is to see the day of the Lord. When asked by the crowd how He speaks as if He knows Abraham, Jesus said to them, Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was, I am .

Who God Says You Are: 17 Scriptures About Our True Identity

by DrMichelle | Blog, Encouragement |

Have you ever wondered who God says you are? Or have you ever wanted a different name? Maybe you never liked the name your parents chose for you at birth. Or maybe you were teased as a child by people calling you names. According to the calendar, February 13th was Get a Different Name Day.

As I thought about this holiday, I reflected on times I not only wanted but needed a different name. But perhaps not in the way you might expect.

Throughout my life, the enemy has whispered labels in my ear that I began to identify with and call myself. Youve probably done that occasionally too.

Who am I that the highest King

Who does God say you are?

As believers, this is such a monumental concept to grasp and to meditate on. Our identity resides in knowing ourselves in Christ and living within the stability of knowing you are who God says you are. Who are you that God would want to rescue you? That He would choose to give up His life for you? That He wants to bless abundantly? Lets look at some declarations scripture makes over you:

I am Gods workmanship, created in Christ unto good works.

I am an ambassador for Christ.

I am part of a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a purchased people.

I am greatly loved by God.

That last statement can make your heart flip or your body feel like its receiving a much-needed supernatural hug. You are G R E A T L Y loved by God. The God of all creation, the God of everlasting glory, the God who is and has everything loves YOU. He loves you G R E A T L Y.

I am born of God, and the evil one does not touch me.

I am complete in Him Who is the Head of all principality and power.

Who the Son sets free

Oh is free indeed

Im a child of God

Yes I am

In my Fathers house

Theres a place for me

Im a child of God

Yes I am

Just. Stop. Who are you?

I am chosen

I am who You say I am

You are for me

Not against me

I am who You say I am

A Prayer To Remind You What God Says About You

May I pray for you?Father, I thank you that your Word is the truth which we can believe. I thank you that although the world may tell us all the ways we dont measure up and all the things we are not, You declare all the good things we are. We are nothing in ourselves but help us to remember all that we are because of you and who we are with you in us. When discouragement comes, send your Holy Spirit to remind us that we are forever loved, healed, strong, forgiven, adopted, whole, purposeful, hopeful, joyful, peace-filled, victorious, powerful, fearfully and wonderfully made, worthy, and we are yours! And Father, help us to see all those truths in those around us as well. When we are tempted to think of all the negative ways that others dont measure up to our standard, help us to remember all the beautiful ways you created them. I thank you that you, Father, have made us each a new creation, and you have given us a new name. In Jesuss name I pray, Amen.

People Who Know Gods Name Trust In Him

Hillsong NYC on Instagram: âFriday reminderâ " I am who You say I am." ð? ...

The aim of all my ministry is the advancement and joy of your faith to the glory of God . Preaching is one means to that end, and therefore when I ponder what to preach, I look for things that will stir you up to trust God with all your heart. Psalm 9:10 says that people who know Gods name will trust him. It seemed to me therefore that the Lord would strengthen our confidence in him for the future of our life together if I could help you know the name of God better. Those who know your name put their trust in you. So for seven weeks, leading to a climax during our missions conference, I hope to unfold a different name of God each week.

An Identity Crisis Comes When Someone Else Says Who You Are

Somewhere in the Garden of Eden, Eve began to listen to the serpents lies rather then who God said she was.

He began a tale of of doubt and lies questioning, Did God really say?

He even told her she could be more like God if she ate of the fruit and disobeyed God.

We read this story from the Bible and think, Why did she do it?

Why couldnt she just remember what God had said?

Lets face it, while we women are birthing a baby and going through labor pains, wed like to get our hands on Eve and slap some sense into her!

If Eve had not disobeyed things wouldnt hurt so much in labor. Right?

Bible Verses For Who You Say I Am

Only the Creator can tell you who you truly are.

Genesis 1:26-31

Then God said, Let us makeman in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. 27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him male and female he created them. 28And God blessed them. And God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. 29And God said, Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have givenevery green plant for food. And it was so. 31And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

God said many wonderful things about who Adam and Eve were in these verses.

Who You Say I Am (Lyric Video) – Hillsong Kids

Now there is a big difference between me and God. When I name someone, I dont have the power or the authority to make the person fit the name. I give names in the hope and prayer that my sons will become what their names imply. But God has the right and the power to cause anyone he names to become what the name implies. The names he gives are sure indicators of the destiny of those he names.

The names God gives are sure indicators of the destiny of those he names.

And when he names himself, we may be sure the name is packed with who he is and what he intends to do. God does not choose names for himself at random, say for the sound or for an ancestor or to avoid embarrassing nicknames. He chooses names for the sake of revealing things about himself that will deepen our love for him and enlarge our admiration and strengthen our faith.

So my prayer is that these seven messages will open our eyes to Gods glory, and enlarge our acquaintance with his magnificent character, and fan the flames of our love, and strengthen the fiber of our faith. My hope is in the word of God: Those who know your name put their trust in you.

The Most Important Name For God In The Old Testament

The most common and the most important name for God in the Old Testament is a name that in our English versions never even gets translated. Whenever you see the word LORD in all capital letters, you know that this name is behind it. In Hebrew, the name had four letters YHWH and may have been pronounced something like Yahweh. The Jews came to regard this word with such reverence that they would never take it upon their lips, lest they inadvertently take the name in vain. So whenever they came to this name in their reading, they pronounced the word adonai which means my lord. The English versions have basically followed the same pattern. They translate the proper name Yahweh with the word LORD in all caps.

This approach is not a very satisfactory thing to do, because the English word LORD does not communicate to our ears a proper name like John or Michael or Noël. But Yahweh is Gods proper name in Hebrew. The importance of it can be seen in the sheer frequency of its use. It occurs 6,828 times in the Old Testament. Thats more than three times as often as the simple word for God . What this fact shows is that God aims to be known not as a generic deity, but as a specific person with a name that carries his unique character and mission.

No Reality Exists Behind God

The second implication in the name I AM WHO I AM is that Gods personality and power are owing solely to himself and to no other.

Push back with me before there was any earth or any solar system or galaxies or universe at all. Push back in your imagination to when there was only God. Then, if you can, push back behind God. Where did he come from? How did he get to be the way he is? If you asked me how I got to be the way I am, I would answer that my father and mother gave me a set of genes and they reared me a certain way and I have been surrounded by thousands of influences in my environment thats how I got to be the way I am.

But when we ask God how he got to be who he is, he answers, I AM WHO I AM. In other words, nobody gave me a set of genes. Nobody and no power brought me into existence or shaped my personality. I had no beginning. There is no reality outside myself that did not come from me. And so there is no force or influence upon my character and power except what comes from me and is controlled by me. I am utterly absolute. Behind me, there is no reality.

Why Your Church Should Sing It

17 Best images about 100 Verses {2016} on Pinterest

Weve already seen how the seemingly random and simple lyrics of Who You Say I Am have PROFOUND Scriptural depth.

Simple? At first glance, sure. But part of the appeal of this song is its simplicity. Its catchy, easy to get the hang of, and even easier to get stuck in your head. Good!

Like the Jews in John 8, how many of us get caught up believing the lies of the devil–especially about who we are and what were capable of? We give into doubt, hide behind insecurity, and lack confidence. Regardless of how much we know the devil is a liar and Jesus is the truth, we still struggle to believe the truth about who he says we are.

But when we belong to God, Jesus says, we hear what God says. And he never lies. He tells the truth. He is truth, and we have to believe it.

This why the bridge of this song is such medicine to our identity-conflicted souls. The words are straight shooting arrows lodging the truth of our identity into our all-too-stubborn and forgetful heads.

Yes, we sing, even when we feel alone and forgotten , were children of God. Even when we feel like everything is against us, were children of God.

This song and songs like it serve as a weapon. Who You Say I Am is more than a battle cryit is a downright military attack on the devil and his enemy forces.

And so, since were aware of our tendency towards believing all sorts of lies about ourselves, we have to buckle down to win in the area of our thoughts.

The song is repetitive for a reason.
