Apart from Christ we cant do the right thing. We all fall short of Gods Glory. God is a holy God and demands perfection. Jesus who is God in the flesh lived the perfect life we couldnt live and died for our iniquities. All men must repent and believe on Jesus Christ. He has made us right before God. Jesus is a believers only claim, not good deeds.
True faith in Christ will cause us to become a new creation. God will give us a new heart for Him. We will have new desires and affections for Christ.
His love for us and our love and appreciation for Him will drive us to do what is right. It will drive us to obey Him, spend time with Him, get to know Him, and love others more.
As Christians we do the right thing not because it saves us, but because Christ saved us. In everything you do, do it all for Gods glory.

The verse in the Bible, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you is commonly known as The Golden Rule. Its found in both Matthew 7:12 and Luke 6:31.
Although many believe Jesus coined the phrase in his Sermon on the Mount, this isnt true. Confucius and Epicurus who lived before Jesus, had a similar version of this rule.
“What you do not wish upon yourself, extend not to others.” Confucius
“Neither to harm, nor be harmed.” Epicurus
Still, Jesus said this Golden Rule sums up the Law and the Prophets , which were written before these two men.

In , Jesus said, You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself.No other commandment is greater than these. Without doing the first part, you really dont have the ability to even try the second part. Some people may say that its in our nature to do good to others. After all, there has been a random act of kindness movement for a long time. But, in general, most people only help other people when:
1. Its their friend or family.2. Its convenient for them.3. Theyre in a good mood, or4. They expect something in return.
But the Bible doesnt say do random acts of kindness when youre feeling good. It says to love others at all times. It even says love your enemies as well as those that persecute you. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you any different from anyone else. Everybody does that . Loving everyone at all times is a much tougher task to accomplish. Its imperative to allow the Holy Spirit to help you.

How Do I Determine How To Serve Others
There are times when we arent quite sure what to do to help others. With so many needs in the world, and so many broken people, the shear thought of serving can be paralyzing.
One way to determine how to serve is to just jump right The first is to just jump in and try something out! The other is to ask yourself a few questions to narrow down your heart for the community. Ask yourself a few questions.
- Who do I feel called to serve?
- What skills do I have?
- How much time do I have to serve?
Answering these questions can help you significantly in determining where in this list you can make the most impact.
The Source Of Any Human Goodness Is To Walk By Faith In The Holy Spirit
Barnabas was full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. This was the source of his being a good man. We see the same connection in Galatians 5:16 & 22. There Paul exhorts us to walk by the Spirit so that we do not carry out the desire of the flesh. One of the fruits that the Holy Spirit produces in the believer is goodness.
We walk by the Spirit by faith. A walk is a step by step process in which you commit your weight to your legs and trust them to sustain you. A walk in the Spirit is a step by step dependence on the indwelling Spirit of God. You rely upon Him in every situation for power to overcome temptations that stem from the world, the flesh, or the devil. You yield control of your life to Him, rather than being self-willed. As that walk becomes a daily habit, the fruits of the Holy Spirit are gradually formed in your life. Your good deeds, then, are not something that you do for God, but rather, something that God does through you.
It would be nice to stop here, on a positive note. But to do so would not give you the full picture of Barnabas. The Bible lets us see its heroes warts and all. But this helps us to see that there is hope, even for someone like me, since God is pleased to use imperfect people.

Even Good People Who Walk In Dependence On The Spirit Have Their Weaknesses And Failures
Even though Barnabas was the champion of Gods grace in Antioch, as seen in his rejoicing in the salvation and acceptance of the Gentiles, he later fell into sin in this very matter. We read of it in Galatians 2:11-13, where Paul tells of what happened once when Peter had come to Antioch. Before certain men from the circumcision party in Jerusalem came to town, Peter ate with the Gentiles, contrary to Jewish custom. But when these legalists came, Peter feared them and held himself aloof. As a result, the rest of the Jewish Christians joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. Since this error involved the very truth of the gospel , Paul publicly confronted Peter and those who had followed his bad example.
The phrase, even Barnabas, shows how out-of-character this behavior was for this godly man. It also shows us that we all, even those who are spiritually mature, have our weaknesses and are prone to failure. Usually, our greatest strengths are also the source of our greatest weaknesses. Barnabas acceptance of people in spite of their faults led him in this instance to accept their sin, when it needed to be confronted. He compromised essential truth about the gospel because he didnt want to offend these men from the mother church. So even good men are not perfect men. And yet, Gods cause will triumph and He is glorified by using imperfect people to accomplish His sovereign plan.

How do we continue to love and serve others when our normal has been derailed? Tragedy and suffering beg us to be creative in the way we rally to help one another. Hebrews 4:16 says, Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. God is our faithful Provider, Sustainer, and Healer. It is from our faith and trust in His providence we reach out to love and help those in need. No matter the crisis, He provides a way for Gospel love to keep circulating. We help with what we have and where were at, as the people God purposed us to be.

Parallels To The Golden Rule Bible Verses
Although the Golden Rule, as it’s called, was most famously stated by Jesus Christ, there were other formulations of it around before Jesus. There were, however, important differences between these other versions of the Golden Rule and the version that is taught by Jesus. I will discuss those differences in this article. In this article, I will consider “love your neighbor as yourself” and “do unto others as you would have them do to you” as two different forms of the same idea: the Golden Rule.
There was a Jewish rabbi who lived around the time of Jesus, whose name was Hillel. It is said that once a pagan came to Hillel and told the Rabbi that if he could recite the entire Jewish Torah while standing on one leg, then he would convert to Judaism. Hillel replied, “What is hateful to you do not do to your neighbor that is the whole Torah, while the rest is commentary. Go and learn it.”
Note that in Matthew 7:12 , Jesus also claims that the Golden Rule “sums up the Law”. In this passage, “the Law” actually refers to the same Jewish Torah that Rabbi Hillel referred to. So both Hillel and Christ formulate a rule which they claim expresses the entire Jewish Law . And the rule stated by Hillel sounds very much like the “do unto others” Bible verse. But we will see that there is a great deal of difference.

You begin by loving God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. That leads you to love others as much as you can, and those acts of loving others are also acts of loving him. Its a beautiful circle of love and the way that we were all meant to live.
