Anointing Of The Sick

St. Patrick Catholic Church in Newcastle, Maine, being updated to serve future generations

Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. James 5: 14-15

Families are encouraged to contact the parish office as early as possible on behalf of those who are ill, so that we can minister to our sick during their time of illness. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick may also be celebrated more than once with those who are seriously ill.

Should a loved one be close to their final hours, please give them the grace of receiving their Last Rites.

Please contact Marta at for more information.

Rite Of Christian Initiation For Adults

The sacraments of Christian initiation Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist lay the foundations of every Christian life. The sharing in the divine nature given to men through the grace of Christ bears a certain likeness to the origin, development, and nourishing of natural life. The faithful are born anew by Baptism, strengthened by the sacrament of Confirmation, and receive in the Eucharist the food of eternal life. By means of these sacraments of Christian initiation, they thus receive in increasing measure the treasures of the divine life and advance toward the perfection of charity. CCC 1212

RCIA is mainly geared towards people who have never been baptized or who have little or no experience of the Church and who are looking to grow closer to God and want to become members of the Church founded by Christ.

If you are thinking of become a Catholic, please contact for more information.

It is from such that we are fed, and from our feeding we become. So we are transformed by renewing our minds. Romans 12:2

Father Wm. J. Bermingham was the next pastor. He made a number of improvements to the church including the entrance, the sacristy, a covered passage between the church and the rectory, windows, stations and side altars. The church was dedicated on Oct. 8, 1905, by Bishop John J. Monaghan at the 10:30 oclock service. The Bishop was assisted by the Revs. Fromentin, Wm. J. Scott, Edward C. Higgins and Vicar-General John A. Lyons. The pastor, Father Bermingham celebrated High Mass and Father Fedigan delivered the sermon. Vesper services were conducted by the Very Rev. John A. Lyons.

Father Bermingham purchased the building on the s. w. cor. of 15th and King Sts., with the intention of converting it into a convent but this plan was not carried out. Father Bermingham died on Dec. 12, 1907. In January, 1908, the Rev. James F. Quigley became the pastor. During his pastorship the dwelling on the corner was converted into apartments, an addition was built to the school and the convent was enlarged. Father Quigley died on May 3, 1925.

The Rev. James L. McSweeney was installed on June 1, 1925. Father McSweeney has made a great many improvements including a new organ which was dedicated on Feb. 23, 1930.

St. Patricks Church took title to the St. Theresa, the Little Flower, Mission at 16th and Thatcher Sts., on Feb. 11, 1927. This was formerly Public School No. 26.

Have A Blessed Safe And Joy

    • Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I find the last week of June and the first week of July a special time of year. I associate it with the blossoming of a particular tree the northern catalpa . When I see the heavily scented blossoms hanging from this tree I know the school year has come to an end and the days of summer are upon us. As I child I have fond memories of pulling the blossoms off the tree in our back yard and sucking the sweet nectar from the tubular base of the blossom. Other than catalpa blossoms, it certainly was sweet to take in the in-person graduations last week. After a three-year hiatus it was wonderful to celebrate these milestones with our youth. It was sweet too to hear at the school next door excited voices of children saying their goodbyes to their teachers and classmates as they began their summer holidays. read more……

    Towards A Synodal Church

In preparation for the Synod of Bishops in 2023, Pope Francis is encouraging everyone to share their voice and become involved. The very nature of the synodal process is that all voices are encountered, listened to and their message discerned. In an effort to build a synodal Church, the Diocese of Hamilton has created a special section of the diocesan website for the 2021-2023 Synod of Bishops . It includes the homily by Pope Francis during the Holy Mass for the opening of the Synodal Path on October 10, 2021. You will also find a link to a survey created by the Diocese of Hamilton where you can share your voice. Please take the time to participate!

    A Prayer Of Spiritual Communion

At Thy feet, O my Jesus, I prostrate myself, and I offer Thee the repentance of my contrite heart, which is humbled in its nothingness and in Thy holy presence. I adore Thee in the Sacrament of Thy love, the ineffable Eucharist. I desire to receive Thee into the poor dwelling that my heart offers Thee. While waiting for the happiness of sacramental Communion, I wish to possess Thee in spirit. Come to me, O my Jesus, since I, for my part, am coming to Thee! Thy love embrace my whole being in life and in death. I believe in Thee, I hope in Thee, I love Thee. Amen.

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Please come back to Mass if you are able.

If you are not able to come to Mass, below are some options for watching mass on television. There are also many online options as well.
