Our family has had its share of ups and downs over the years.

Weve experienced catastrophic health incidents, lost loved ones, and had our share of difficult situations in our lives.

Through it all weve been able to keep our heads above water not because of anything weve done on our own, but because of our strong faith in Christ.

God gives us strength when ours is depleted.

He gives us hope in darkness when we cant see the light.

He walks by our side and gives us the strength to carry on.

The main place that we get inspiration is from the Bible. Today I want to share a number of bible verses about faith that you can look to when times are hard.

How Do I Build My Faith And Trust In God

Start by trusting God for little things

One practical way to increase faith and trust in God is to trust Him in little things. Start today by trusting God for the little things like that $20 bill that needs to get paid. Yes, something as little as that. Trust Him for that, ask Him to meet that need.

Where Should I Start

Inspirational Verse of the Day

Unlike most books that are meant to be read from front to back, the Bible comprises of 66 books that could be more accurately described as a library of holy texts. It is possible to read the Bible from sequentially from start to end, but you might get stuck by the time you get to Leviticus, the third book, full of dos and donts.

To help you get started, heres our recommended order of books to whet your appetite. :

Bible Verses About Strength In Hard Times

If your faith is being tested, take hold of these truths about how God can be your strength. Meditate on the verses about faith and trust. Share them and provide encouraging words for a friend going through a tough time.

Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but not with God all things are possible with God.

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Psalm 37:23-24 The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

1 Corinthians 16:13 Be on your guard stand firm in the faith be courageous be strong.

Matthew 28:20 And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Unless I See The Nail Marks In His Hands

Now Thomas , one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

It always seemed a little unfair that Thomas is forever saddled with the title “Doubting Thomas.” There was a time when the disciples were trying to talk Jesus out of going back to Judea to see Lazarus because the authorities wanted Him dead. It was Thomas who said, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him” . But that’s not what we remember about Thomas.

After Jesus is raised from the dead, He appears to the disciples. But John says “Thomas wasn’t with them” . They believed because they were there and saw the Lord. Earlier, when Mary tried to tell them that she had seen the Lord, they didn’t believe her either .

A Letter To Believers: Ephesians

Unlike the gospel of John and the book of Acts, Ephesians is a letter from the Apostle Paul to the believers in Ephesus.

Christianity begins not with a big DO, but with a big DONE God has already blessed us with every spiritual blessing.

Watchman Nee, a Chinese church leader and teacher, distils the essence of Ephesians into three simple words: Sit. Walk. Stand, and says Ephesians abounds with spiritual riches, and yet is intensely practical.

He writes: Christianity does not begin with walking it begins with sitting.

For Christianity begins not with a big DO, but with a big DONE. Thus Ephesians opens with the statement that God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. And we are invited at the very outset to sit down and enjoy what God has done for us not to set out to try and attain it for ourselves.

Introduction to the book: In the book of Ephesians, we see how the Gospel story affects believers everyday lives. God, the Father, planned throughout history for Jesus to create a multi-ethnic community of followers. Consisting of Jews and non-Jews, these followers form the family God promised to Abraham. They live in unity as one body in their families, neighbourhoods, and churches because of Gods grace.

Whats So Important About Reading The Bible

Book Talk: Lamentations: Faith in a Turbulent World

Christians believe that the Bible is the Word of the Creator God .

It is common to hear Christians say, God said, and you might wonder how?

While God is not one to be boxed in and limited by our understanding of His ways, one channel that God speaks to us is through His word, which is described by the writer of Hebrews as alive .

It is common to hear Christians say, God said , and you might wonder: How?

In the book of 2 Timothy, the Apostle Paul tells his disciple, Timothy, that all Scripture is God-breathed. One translation translates it more simply as inspired by God .

The purpose of the Bible? To prepare and equip His people to do every good work.

No one enters into a new relationship without communication as a child of God, our relationship with God is no different.

God desires to speak to us and He often does it through what He has already revealed in the Bible, the word of God .

Strengthen Your Christian Faith By Starting In The Bible

I needed God to heal the wounds people had inflicted. I needed to know that God loves every bit of me, even when I mess up or dont do things the way other people want me to. I needed to know how God wants me to live, not how other people thought I should be conducting my life. Slowly, I began to develop a plan for letting God introduce Himself to me:

  • Start by reading the Gospel of John. None of us are perfect, which is why we need Jesus. If you really want to strengthen your Christian faith, you need a clear picture of who Jesus really is. The Gospel of John will give this clarity to you. Jesus wants to restore Joy, pour Grace over each of us and show us His best plans for our lives.
  • Begin reading the other Gospels . Read them over and over again and let the message of how much God loves me really sink in before trying to understand anything else the Bible has to say. Its hard to overcome years of wrong-conditioning and I have to learn to see scripture through the eyes of Jesus so that I can see it in a non-condemning manner.
  • Read Psalms to get a clear understanding that my struggle is a common one.
  • Read Galations and Ephesians. There are so many gems in these books that I hadnt clearly seen before!
  • How Bible Journaling Can Help Grow Your Christian Life

I cant say it often enough: Bible Journaling is NOT about drawing pretty pictures in your Bible. Thats a lovely thing to do but by itself, drawing pictures is not what brings us closer to God. God reveals himself to us when we STUDY His Word! Bible Journaling is about using a pen and paper to help us learn and remember what God is teaching us by digging deeper into His Word.

Bible Journaling doesnt have to be complicated. You dont need an expensive Bible and fancy art supplies. You dont even need to purchase Bible Studies. You can start by getting a simple composition notebook and just writing down the verses that seem special to you.

If you want to take it a step further you can use BibleStudy Tools . But to just get started all you really need is a Bible.

Bible Verses About Faith In Action

When we are saved by faith in Christ, we should feel compelled by Jesus sacrificial gift of love to give to others as well. After all, the Bible says that faith without works is dead. By letting his light shine through us, we give glory to God.

James 2:14-26 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, You have faith and I have works. Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Faith in action is love, and love in action is service. By transforming that faith into living acts of love, we put ourselves in contact with God Himself, with Jesus our Lord. Mother Teresa

Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, , which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Faith Is Confidence In What We Hope For

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.

The writer of Hebrews defines faith for us. It’s confidence in a future we hope for and assurance in what we dont see. This is the belief that pleases God. But we mustn’t read this as:

Faith is confidence in our confidence and assurance in our assurance.

Faith that redeems us is confidence in Jesus, the object of our hope. Think of faith as a pair of glasses through which we gaze upon what we long for. The glasses help us see what we hope for more clearly, and they help us push through to grab hold of it. But we need to be careful not to make an idol out of beliefour faith isn’t the object of our faith. It’s a tool we use to see and grab hold of Jesus.

Amazing Examples Of Faith In The Bible

The Bible is full of amazing examples of faith. We see many instances of courageous men and women trusting in God and His promises above all else. Remind yourself of how big our God is and how he can the impossible.

    Abraham the man of faith

The dramatic story of God testing Abrahams faith is full of lessons we can apply to our lives. When Isaac was a young teenager, God told Abraham to offer him as a sacrifice. It must have seemed an astounding command – to take your promised son on whom the promises of God depended and sacrifice him upon an altar.

“By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, ‘Through Isaac shall your promised offspring come'” Hebrews 11:17-18

When they came to the mountain, Abraham was obedient to God. Just as he took the knife to take the life of his own son, God stayed Abrahams hand, and told him to offer instead a ram caught in a thicket.

    The walls of Jericho

When Joshua arrived at Jericho, he found himself facing a city which, from a human perspective, seemed impossible to defeat. The walls of Jericho were built on a vast sloping embankment. At the base of this embankment was a wall 12-15 feet high. 46 feet above, at the top of the embankment was another wall 26 feet high and six feet thick.

    Mercy To Those Who Doubt

Be merciful to those who doubt.

Faith isn’t static. We could have strong faith today and tomorrow go through something that makes us question everything. It’s incredibly important that we treat one another with tenderness and care because that’s how we protect doubt from becoming disbelief.

When Thomas said that he wouldn’t believe unless he felt the Lord’s wounds, he didn’t want faith he wanted certainty. He was saying, “I will believe it when you prove it to me.” But faith isn’t certainty. It is belief in the face of questions and misgivings. It is trust despite doubt.

For people to grow in faith, they need the freedom to take tentative steps. They need to trust that their questions will be met with gentleness. It’s when doubt is met with mercy that faith expands.
