Last Days Bible Meaning

Putting it all together What does the Bible say about the last days? How does it define the term? The Bible defines the last days as the first coming to the second coming of Christ.;

So, are we living in the last days? Yes. We have been for quite some time.

Maybe you are thinking, but surely now we are living in the very last days right? With everything happening Jesus has to be coming back within a matter of years.

Maybe, I dont know. Jesus even says He doesnt know in Matthew 24:36 and I dont know about you but I dont want to try to outdo Jesus.;

Theres no shortage of people claiming Jesus is returning soon, that we are in the actual last days. But their claims are baseless, they are not supported in the Bible. I suppose they could get lucky. Jesus could return tomorrow, but it could also be another 2,000 years.;

The Bible doesnt tell us. Instead, it keeps its usage of the last days as a brand scope of time and refuses to get specific.;

Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Philippians 1:23-24 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.

Philippians 3:20-21 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Pauls Charge To Timothy

10;But you, Timothy, certainly know what I teach, and how I live, and what my purpose in life is. You know my faith, my patience, my love, and my endurance.11;You know how much persecution and suffering I have endured. You know all about how I was persecuted in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystrabut the Lord rescued me from all of it.12;Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.13;But evil people and impostors will flourish. They will deceive others and will themselves be deceived.

14;But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you.15;You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.16;All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.17;God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

What Does The Bible Say About The Last Days

What does the Bible say about the last days? Not a whole lot. This phrase only appears 6 times in the Bible. And not once is it found in Revelation, which is an equally abused topic. But thats another post for another day.;

Since its only mentioned 6 times I want to look at each occurrence of the last days in the Bible.

So, are we living in the last days? Lets find out and ask what does the Bible say about the last days?

In The Last Days = Acts 2:16

Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. Its only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy,;your young men will see visions,;your old men will dream dreams.

This passage is recording what happened at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came and dwelled in His people. Peter stands up to explain whats happening. To help the Jews in the crowd understand he pulls out an Old Testament prophet everyone would have been familiar with, Joel.;

Joel wrote this short book that prophesied about something that was coming that would literally change all of creation. He was describing Jesus resurrection and the coming Holy Spirit. Peter points back to Joel and tells his audience, today is that day.;

False Teachers Seek To Gain Control Over People

Captivate weak women can also be translated gain control over gullible women . Be careful when you see too much power given to a spiritual leader. These teachers often gain control over peoples money, marriages, and future. As seen in cults, spiritual abuse is common.

Remember Jesus said he came to serve and not be served. Servant leadership should be the model in our churches . Be careful of abusive ministries and ministers.

False Teachers Are Deceptive

*MUST SEE!* End Times according to the KJV (Revelation and other verses organized for final events)

Paul says they insinuate their way into homes, or it can be translated creep or worm . These teachers are crafty like the serpent in the garden. Often, they are great communicators and very charismatic; however, their intentions are not godly.

Be careful of the deceptive influence of false teachers. There is a reason that crowds often follow them.

We Must Examine Our Salvation

Second Corinthians 13:5 says, Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in youunless, indeed, you fail the test! Christ said in the last days many will say to him, Lord, Lord but he will respond, Depart from me, you workers of iniquity, I never knew you . That type of false faith will be increasingly common in the church, as we get closer to Christs coming. It will be religion without relationship, form without power, a shell without life. We must test ourselves to see if we are saved.

How do we know if were born again? Certainly, we must ask ourselves discerning questions such as: Are we demonstrating new life and new spiritual affections? Do we love God? Do we love his people? Do we love his Word? Are we obeying him? Are we decreasing in sin and growing in righteousness? Has our profession changed our life or is it just a profession? If our profession hasnt changed our life, then maybe we just have the form of faith without its saving power in our lives.

The book of 1 John is a book of many tests of salvation . First John 3:9-10 says,

A true believer will fail and fall into sin, but he will not practice a lifestyle of unrepentant sin; the general direction of his life is very different from the world. A true believer practices righteousness and loves Gods people.

Do you bear the marks of true salvation?

Plagues And The Bible

What does the Bible say about pandemics or plagues?

Did God bring Covid-19?

How should the people of God respond?

In a number of places in the Bible, there is mention of plagues, pestilence, or pandemics killing people. For example, in Lev. 26:25, when Israel falls into covenant violations, God says, I will send pestilence among you. In II Chronicles 6:28, Solomon says if there is pestilence, famine or blight, may God hear from the temple the prayers of the people. In the next chapter, II Chron. 7:13, God says that if he sends pestilence, the people can pray and humble themselves . Plague number four on the Egyptians is pestilence on their livestock, and as a result they all die as mentioned in Exod. 9:3-6. In II Sam. 24:15, God sends a pestilence that kills 70,000 Israelites because of Davids ill-conceived census.;Jesus says in Luke 21:11 that there will be plagues.;Both Ezekiel and Jeremiah speak of;God sending plagues, for example, in Ezek. 14:21 and 33:27, and Jer.;21:6, 7 and 9.;In Rev. 6:8, the Pale Rider kills a fourth of the earth with the sword, famine, and pestilence.

Psalm 91:5-6, a great psalm of protection, says that we will not fear the terror of the night, the arrow of the day, the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or the destruction that comes at noon.;

We Must Make Sure That Christ Is Still Our First Love

Last Days

The root problem of the end-time church is self-love. They love themselves more than God, which results in many other sinslove of money, love of pleasure, lack of family love, pride, abusiveness, etc. This can happen to us as well if we dont love God first. In Revelation 2:4-5, Christ rebuked the church of Ephesus for this sin. He said,

But I have this against you: You have departed from your first love! Therefore, remember from what high state you have fallen and repent! Do the deeds you did at the first; if not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its placethat is, if you do not repent.

Christ promised them judgment if they didnt repent for their lack of love for God. No doubt, this lack of love was causing other sins in their lives, as it does with ours. If weve lost it, we must repent and turn back to God. We must put him first as an act of love and obedience. As we love God first, we will love others and grow in righteousness.

Is Christ still your first love? If not, what is taking first place in your life?

In The Last Days The Church Will Be Full Of False Believers

For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, savage, opposed to what is good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, loving pleasure rather than loving God. They will maintain the outward appearance of religion but will have repudiated its power. So avoid people like these.

2 Timothy 3:2-5

ObservationQuestion: What are characteristics of the people in the last days?

As we continue to read Pauls words, we find that the terrible times will not be bad because of difficult events but because of evil people. This is what will make these last days so terrible. There will be many in the church who profess Christianity but look nothing like their Lord and Savior. In verse 5, Paul says that they had an outward appearance of religion but repudiated its power. This means that they had the outer trappings of Christianitythey went to church, sang hymns, gave their tithes, went on mission tripsbut lived ungodly lives that proved they had never experienced Christs saving power.

This reality often leads to disillusionment and apostasySatans very intent in planting tares, bad fish, and leaven. No doubt, this is the reason that Paul warned Timothy. In 2 Timothy 3:1-5, Paul gives nineteen negative characteristics of many professing believers during these difficult times:

MacDonald said this about these people:

We Are Living In The Last Days But Thats Nothing New

So, are we living in the last days? Yes, we have been for 2,000 years. Is Jesus coming soon? Who knows. I see little benefit in speculating. The Bible doesnt give any clues, instead, it tells us how to live in the here and now in light of what Jesus has done.;

The question we started with is how does the Bible define the term the last days. And should we not define it the same way?;

I see so many people take their own idea of what the last days are and impose it on the Bible. I see it all the time. And that practice is so dangerous. You can make the Bible say anything you want when you fail to read it in context.

Technically, yes we are living in the last days. But that doesnt mean Jesus is for sure returning in the next few years or even in your lifetime. If you want to believe that, thats fine. But dont twist the Bible to support your opinion.;

The Bible isnt interested in telling you when Jesus is going to return. And no Revelation doesnt offer a timeline. But thats another topic for another time.;

Instead, the Bible tells us how to live in the here and now. We need to stop taking our preconceived notions about what in the last days mean.

The Bible doesnt define the last days as in the handful of weeks, months, or years before the world ends. Rather it says the last days are between Jesus first coming and second coming. We should hold to that definition too and avoid imposing our own preconceived ideas onto the Bible.

False Teachers Oppose The Truth And Instigate Rebellion Against God And Godly Leaders

In verse 8, Paul says, And just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these peoplewho have warped minds and are disqualified in the faithalso oppose the truth. The names Jannes and Jambres are never mentioned in the Old Testament. However, according to tradition, these were the sorcerers who opposed Moses when he went to Pharaohs court. They went with Israel to Mt. Sinai and instigated the rebellion of worshiping the golden calves. John MacArthur shares,

Jewish tradition holds that they pretended to convert to Judaism in order to subvert Moses divine assignment to liberate Israel from Egypt, that they led in making and worshiping the golden calf while Moses was on Mt. Sinai receiving the Law from God, and that they were slaughtered by the Levites along with the other idolaters . That possibility is consistent with Pauls warning about false leaders who corrupt the church from within. Just as those two men opposed Moses in his teaching and leading ancient Israel, so these men in Ephesus also opposed the truth of the gospel.5

In the same way, false teachers often accuse and oppose godly teachers and try to create rebellion in churches and ministries.
