What Does The World Say About Patience

What is forbearance? Why forbearance is important according to holy bible? What is this?

Truthfully, the world doesnt offer a lot of support for a patient attitude. The world tells us we should say what we want to say and do what we want to do, whenever we want to do it. An impatient selfishness is promoted that implies we dont need to deal kindly with anything that frustrates us, because we know best anyway.

We see impatience most in the world through communication, or lack of it. Rather than have a patient and understanding conversation about differing beliefs or perspectives, people name-call to avoid listening to the other persons point. This is a rash response, to shut down another person rather than be tolerant of their unique views.

What Is Forbearance As A Fruit Of The Spirit

Forbearance can also be known as patience. Patience really comes into play when dealing with children. Sometimes it looks like baby cousins in the family and sometimes it can be babysitting little tots. When we have the Spirit in us that is outpouring patience into our lives, we need to allow that to take place.

Forbearance: Definition And Synonyms

The word “forbearance” is found in the King James Version of the Bible, but not in some modern versions. To demonstrate forbearance is to abstain or hold back when you really want to fly off the handle. Forbearance is having patience when you are impatient. Forbearance is having self-control when it is very challenging to keep your cool. Forbearance is keeping your mouth closed when you want to say a lot.

What Does God Say About Patience

Pin on Info

We are called to always show patience for one another. Even when we deal with people who are not Christians and act or speak differently than what we agree with. We are called to show patience as we wait for God to show His power over the world. So as the world rejects Him, we are really called to patience rather than anger or harshness.

Since the world does reject Jesus, we are called to share the gospel. This is another time when we need patience because many wont respond to our words of love. While many will ignore us, our patience will be worthwhile if just one person comes to Jesus. The empathy that shines through a patient person allows us to support growth in others even when their journey looks different than ours.

Youre kind by overlooking a suffered wrong and longsuffering because you know God helps people repent from sin.

Forbearance is part of your character when retaliation isnt an option. Thats especially true when loved ones abuse goodness you extend to them repeatedly. You dont lash out. Youre composed and respond mildly when faced with injustices. Others see you as annoyingly tranquil when they react to anothers behavior like their hair is on fire. Your self-restraint makes others wonder what makes you tick. How can you be peaceful and calm by letting others off the hook?

The Scriptures show Gods legacy of longsuffering with mankind. We read this concerning the period leading up to the flood: The longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. Although in the final analysis only eight persons were saved from the flood, God was longsuffering to give mankind every opportunity to repent and join faithful Noah and his family. The account in Genesis, chapter 6, indicates that there was a period of time which passed after Gods initial declaration that he would destroy all flesh, until the flood actually took place. During this period, and as the ark was being prepared, God was longsuffering, to the intent that possibly some might have a repentant heart and turn toward him. Once again, he was slow to wrath, slow to avenge, slow to punishlongsuffering.

Then I will make you into a great nation. But Moses sought the favor of the Lord his God. Lord, he said, why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand? Why should the Egyptians say, It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth?

Turn from your fierce anger relent and do not bring disaster on your people. Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self: I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and I will give your descendants all this land I promised them, and it will be their inheritance forever. Then the Lord relented and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened.

Forbearance In The Bible Is About Endurance

Our relationship with God involves giving and taking. So do our human relationships. For example, a husband and wife forgive and forbear one anothers faults and idiosyncrasies. Most any day, a wife may want to run her husbands socks up a flagpole. Her husband blocks out his wifes conversations when she needs him to listen.

In this example, I assume the husband and wife honor God before man. Cultivating fruit is high on their to-do lists. If either gravitates away from God, they downplay the importance of forgivenessenduranceand forbearance. They may see their differences line up with concepts outlined in John Grays book, Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus. God wants them to see their distinctive natures as purposeful designs.

Endurance for the sake of forbearance doesnt mean you never confront someone when behavior warrants correction. Just like God, you know when its necessary to make or suggest changes.

Biblical Examples Of Forbearance

Jesus Christ is the propitiation for our sins

God shows forbearance to us all the time. Therefore, we should show it toward others. God is patient with us by giving us chance after chance to do things the right way. He is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love for us. Since God is that way toward us, we should be that way toward others.

God shows that He has forbearance by holding back or restraining His wrath when we sin against Him, against others, and against ourselves. God shows forbearance when He doesn’t give us the judgment we deserve. God is long-suffering, and we should be like Him by being slow to punish others when they do us wrong.

Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance, and patience, not realizing that Gods kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? . Forbearance refers to Gods kindness, mercy, and kindness by holding back rightful judgment.

Paul teaches that God shows forbearance when He withholds His wrath. Instead, He makes known to us His power and discloses the riches of His glory in order to lead others to repentance. Paul warns us not to be hasty in judging others ourselves. We should leave it up to God to forbear and to judge others on our behalf.

Peter declared, The Lord is not slow about his promise as some count slowness, but is forbearing toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance .

According to dictionary.com forbearance means refraining from, patient endurance and abstaining.

God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished

Side note from BibleGateway: The Greek for sacrifice of atonement refers to the atonement cover on the ark of the covenant .

forbearance can be patience as the Amplified Bible says, shown below in Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy , peace, patience , kindness, goodness , faithfulness,

23 Gentleness , self-control .

The word patience is used 34 times in the Amplified Bible, 16 times in the New International Version and 33 times in the King James Version.

As I stated forbearance means to turn away from. That includes if someone does evil to us. We are to not pay them back with evil.
