Three weeks before the first anniversary of my mothers death, my heart is still sore. The memory of our interaction as Alzheimer’s patient and caregiver, as well as that of watching her exhale her last breath are still vivid. In recent days, I have aggravated the pain by unmindful actions like the following:

  • lowering my voice during a conversation to avoid disturbing her
  • attempting to put matches and knives out of her reach
  • passing by and looking into her room to see how she is doing.

For the hundreds who experience confusion and emotional discomfort on or around the anniversary of a loved ones death, the following Bible quotes* are meant to bring comfort, strength, hope and peace also to conjure up precious memories when grief surfaces afresh.

Joy comes in the morning.

Bible Verses About Death Of Loved One

Precious in the sight of the LordIs the death of His godly ones.

But he who sins against me injures himself All those who hate me love death.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue,And those who love it will eat its fruit.

What man can live and not see death? Can he deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah.

The righteous man perishes, and no man takes it to heart And devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from evil,

Her house is the way to Sheol,Descending to the chambers of death.

For there is no mention of You in death In Sheol who will give You thanks?

If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death I do not say that he should make request for this.

Cloud Of Witnesses

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God .

They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed as they had been was completed .

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our comrades, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down .

Rejoice over her, O heaven! Rejoice, saints and apostles and prophets! God has judged her for the way she treated you .

What Does The Bible Say About Grieving Our Loved Ones

Though there is no right or wrong way to grieve, the Bible does offer this help:

  • 1 Thessalonians 4:13 says, Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.
  • 2 Timothy 4:8 says, Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that dayand not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
  • Hebrews 9:27 says, Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
  • 1 John 2:1 says, My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the FatherJesus Christ, the Righteous One.
  • Job 16:19 says, Even now my witness is in heaven my advocate is on high.

And finally, Hebrews 4:14-16 clearly explains the hope we have in Jesus.

This hope allows us to look forward to a fair judgement where the Savior is our advocate, and an eternity with our loved ones is possible. While we miss them now, we can move forward in our lives, anticipating that amazing future God has prepared for us all.

Can The Dead Speak With Us

The biblical answer is, no.

It is also against biblical counsel to attempt to speak with the dead, for reasons of avoiding the devils deceptions about Gods truth and Gods guidance in your life. We are not certain of tomorrow. But we are certain of who holds tomorrowGod.

Communicate with God every day, and receive the comfort and strength you need to move ahead with your life, until that day when Jesus comes, and every tear will be wiped away!

But why is it not advisable to seek a medium or to take advice from the devil?

Firstly, it is deceptive.

We know that death is like an unconscious sleep. The deceased has no participation in this life. In that case, if a medium calls up a dead person, who is being consulted? Satan and his angels.

Just like God knows us and has given us guardian angels, you can bet that the devil, the one who is trying to lead each of us astray, knows us very well . He, or his fallen angels, are quite capable of impersonating a loved one who has passed away.

Where Do We Go When We Die

The dead know nothing, as the Bible tells us. So, when we die, its like we are sleeping, awaiting the return of Jesus.

You may be concerned about the whereabouts of a family member or friend who has died. It would be comforting to know that they are not suffering in any way. It would also be comforting to know that they are not watching our every move or distressed because they can no longer be part of our lives. And that is true.

The dead rest where they were laid until God calls them awake at the resurrection. They do not continue to live elsewhere and have to witness our lives on Earth.

And though our loved ones arent with us anymore, we can take comfort in knowing that even Jesus experienced the sadness we do when someone close to us dies.

When He lived on Earth, Jesus had a close friend, Lazarus, who became ill and died. Lazarus was buried in a tomb. No one knew yet, but Jesus was planning to raise Lazarus from the dead to show Gods power. But even despite knowing that, when the people told Jesus that Lazarus was dead, Jesus wept.

Though He knew Lazarus would be raised, Jesus still experienced the sadness and grief of losing a friend. But then, He comforted them by saying that Lazarus was asleep.

Jesus taught us many things in the story:

  • Death is an unconscious state
  • Those who died believing in Him are just resting
  • Sadness and grief is normal
  • The faithful will be raised to life again

For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing .

Bible Verses For Death Of Loved Ones

What does the Bible Really Teach About What Happens When we die?

1. Here are 3 good verses from Scripture that will back up the words spoken to this couple by the Holy Spirit.

  • But Jesus said to him, No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
  • but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead. I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Look at the words in this second verse: forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward for those things which are ahead. This verse perfectly lines up with what the Holy Spirit was trying to tell this couple to let the death of their daughter go, which was now in their past, and to look forward, to press forward for the things which are now ahead of them in their futures.

And one of the things ahead for this couple in their futures will be their own physical deaths and their own crossing over into heaven and being reunited with their daughter, where they will never be separated from her ever again!

2. This next verse talks about plowing forward in hope.

This verse is telling us that each one of us should continue to plow for God with whatever time we still have left down here on this earth with the understanding that we will eventually be reunited with all of our saved loved ones who have gone home before us.

So many people have lost the rest of their earthly lives because they could never get over the death of a close loved one.

Leave The Communicating To God

I believe the dream conversation I had with my mother was a gift from God, in answer to my prayer. Ill always be grateful for the wonder and encouragement God allowed me to encounter through that dream. But if God hadnt allowed that dream to happen, I wouldnt have tried to contact Mom on my own. Attempting to communicate with our loved ones who have passed away should only happen through Gods care and supervision. If we try to force such contact to happen ourselves, we could be opening spiritual doors for any type of spirit including evil spirits to walk through. God warns us in Leviticus 19:31: Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God. Deuteronomy 18: 10-12 also cautions: Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, practices divination or conjury, interprets omens, practices sorcery, casts spells, consults a medium or spiritist, or inquiries of the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD.

No matter what our dreams about the dead are like, we can trust God to help us interpret them accurately and respond to them in ways that help us grow spiritually.

Are Our Loved Ones Looking Down On Us From Heaven

What does the Bible say about death of a loved one, 4 he

March 2, 2014 by Melissa

We often hear Christian people say that deceased loved ones are watching over them, taking care of them, smiling down on them, or sending them signs. The Bible doesnt specifically have much to say about this topic, but there are several clues in Scripture that seem to show that this is not true.

1. He will not return to me.

In 2 Samuel, we see David, a distraught father who has lost his only child. He has been fasting and praying that God might spare his sons life, but when the child passes away, David makes this statement:

But, now that he is dead, why should I go on fasting? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.

David shows here that the child is now gone, never to return to this Earth. He talks about how they will one day be reunited in Heaven, but until that time, David indicates that they are separated. He does not seem to expect the child to leave him signs of any kind or to be a presence in his life.

2. Present with the Lord.

In 2 Corinthians 5:8, the Bible tells us that when we are absent from the body we are present with the Lord. In other passages we get glimpses of what being in the presence of the Lord might look like. Isaiah and Revelation both paint vivid pictures of the singular focus of those in Heaven, as they gather round the throne of God singing an eternal song of worship and praise, Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty.

3. No tears in Heaven.

Likewise, what is the period of mourning? After forty days, memorials are celebrated at threemonths, six months, nine months, one year, and on the anniversaryof the death for at least seven years. For close relatives, themourning period may last for one year, during which widowsand widowers may wear only black clothing and will recitePanikhidas regularly.

Also question is, what the Bible Says About bereavement?

Old Testament Bereavement ScripturesThe eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are theeverlasting arms. For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand it is I who say to you Fear not, I will help you. Isaiah41:13. Surely He hath borne our griefs and carried oursorrows.

âAs one whom his mother comforts, so I willcomfort you you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.â TheGood News: God’s love will tenderly nurture you as a mothernurtures a child. âAnd we know that for those who love Godall things work together for good, for those who are calledaccording to his purpose.â
