Living With Guilt And Shame
If were going to survive in the wild outside Eden, we need to learn to deal with both our guilt and our shame. We need solutions for addressing the facts of wrongdoing, our guilt. But we also need help navigating the emotional trauma we experience in the wake of our sins and the sins of others that spread to us. Both of these children, Guilt and Shame, will threaten our existence. But beware the boy.
As Christians, our guilt, in its deepest sense, is dealt with entirely when we are made right with God through trust in Jesus. This is what the Bible calls justification. It is a quick and decisive event that happens at conversion. But the process of applying the truth of the gospel to our liveswhat the Bible calls sanctificationis lifelong and can be quite messy.
Shame will haunt us long after we deal with our guilt. But we cannot give in to its game. We must confront both our guilt and shame with the gospel of grace.
We must deal with our shame by reminding ourselves of how God has dealt with our guilt.
Thats why we must deal with our shame by reminding ourselves of how God has dealt with our guilt. Our guilt is objectively forgiven at the cross. In Christ, God has cast our sin as far as the east is from the west . But shame will refuse to acknowledge our new identity. May we not let it have the last word.

God’s Only Remedy For Sin And Guilt Is Jesus
Jesus came to earth to die. He was the Substitute for usHe took our punishment in our place so we could be forgiven and made right with God. But what we don’t always understand is that God also wants us to be free from guilt. We learn this from His Word.
God’s Forgiveness Includes a Cleansed Conscience
Through Christ, God has wiped our record clean. He wants us to know it, and to live in that freedom. We’re told, “How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” .
When believers in biblical times put their faith in Christ, they acted like forgiven and cleansed people. Zaccheus, described in Luke 19, is a classic example. Everyone knew Zaccheus was a sinnerhe worked for Israel’s oppressor, the Roman government. In fact, Zaccheus was head of the equivalent to the Roman Internal Revenue Service. He levied the taxes Caesar required, and he was free to add whatever he wanted for himself.
Zaccheus repentedhe changed his way of life. He promised to make generous restitution to those he had cheated. The change was dramatic. That’s why Jesus could say in response, “Today, salvation has come to this house.” Zaccheus’s new conduct was evidence of his new faith.

False Evidence Appearing Real
If false guilt were a chariot, then fear of disapproval from others is the whip upon the back of the horses pulling it. A very helpful acronym for this kind of fear is: False Evidence Appearing Real. Fear often has us imagining the worst possible outcome to a problem when in reality the outcome is rarely as bad as fear tells us its going to be. Fear is often a liar.
False guilt consumes our thinking while awake and asleep, and creates in our lives both spiritual and psychological cataracts, stopping us from seeing our relationships with God, others and ourselves clearly. Through false guilt, we lie to and bare false witness against ourselves. Its still a sin. We judge ourselves inaccurately and always too harshly. We become like the Pharisees whom Jesus chastised and corrected with the strongest language throughout his ministry . Like the Pharisees, who represented false and abusive religion, false guilt is also abusive. It puts heavy burdens upon our backs, burdens we were never intended to shoulder. False guilt is self-abuse.People who suffer from false guilt nearly always have difficulty being truthful with how they think, feel and act. They have great difficulty giving others Vitamin Ntelling people no. Charles Spurgeon, British Reformed Baptist preacher and author, recognized how important this fact is in a persons spiritual growth when he told his students, Learn how to say no. It will do you more good than learning Latin.

What Does Water Mean In The Bible
Water has the power to purify, to provide deliverance, and it can also destroy evil and enemies as in the stories of the Flood and the flight of Israel from Egypt . 70 to 75% of the earths surface is covered with water.
Similarly, What did Jesus mean when he said I am thirsty?
Jesus says, When I was thirsty, you gave me a drink. Perhaps as he yearns for an end to his suffering, Jesus seeks to remind those who will follow him to serve, to quench the thirst of the needy, for his sake.
Additionally, What does water symbolize spiritually? With remarkable regularity across human cultures, water has been used to communicate the sacred value of life the spiritual dimension of purification, protection, and healing and the profound meaning of suffering and redemption in human life.
Finding Freedom From Both
Guilt is a feeling familiar to us all. Even though we may describe it in different ways a bothered conscience, feeling culpable for an offense, or a sense of responsibility for a regretful action guilt is a disconcerting emotion and one often hard to shake. It can feel like a dark shadow following us around, demanding we give it our attention and making it difficult to fully focus on anything or anyone else. Guilt disturbs our peace and pleasure it calls, it frustrates and it bothers us. Try as we may in many different ways it can be difficult to push out of our thoughts and feelings.
While guilt at its core is an emotional and a moral term full of meaning and purpose, it often is grouped together with another word: shame. Guilt and shame are so often used together in thought and conversation, in fact, that we may easily mistake these terms as synonymous, but that actually dilutes their meaning. Until guilt and shame are properly named, set apart and defined in our minds, our souls will continue to feel stuck.
Not the Same
There is a difference between GUILT and SHAME a big difference. Understanding this can rid us of unneeded confusion and help us find a way to living free in our hearts and souls to experiencing real peace and rest.
Consider the differences between guilt and shame:
Guilt is about conviction.
Guilt is about recognizing the truth that we have done something wrong.Shame is a debilitating feeling that we ARE wrong.
