It Is One Of The Most Condemned Sins In The Bible
Infidelity or adultery is one of the most frequently and severely condemned sins in the Bible. Adultery is mentioned 52 times, including in the Ten Commandments, all four Gospels, and ten other books of the Bible. Only the sins of idolatry, self-righteousness and murder are mentioned more often. Infidelity is devastating to a marriage. There are many reasons why sex happens outside of marriage. Some people get trapped in affairs to give a conscious or subconscious wake-up call to the spouse. This might happen if your spouse has a different kind of lover outside of the marriage, such as a consuming career. Another reason some people get wrapped up in affairs is to inflate a bruised ego. You might want to get back at your spouse for something he or she did that hurt you rather than offering forgiveness and dealing with the root issue. Then, there are the friendships that get out of control where one thing, leads to another thing. Each of these scenarios is problematic and not Gods intention for marriage.
A Few Signs Of A Repentant Heart In The Area Of Infidelity
Adultery is first and foremost a rebellion against God. If you are the betrayer, and you want to know how to deal with infidelity Biblically, you must fall on your face before Him before you do anything else. With a broken and contrite heart, you must confess your sins to Him, and in humility ask Him to help you turn from them.
As you heal, here are some things that will become a part of your life:
- Repentance takes full responsibility for sin without blaming anyone or anything else.
- A repentant heart wont minimize, justify, or manipulate away past wrongs, let alone new mistakes.
- One who has repented will have empathy towards the people who have been hurt by his sin and sorrow over the pain caused.
- A repentant heart does not pretend to be the victim of his own sin. He will not try and turn conversations around to make himself out to be the one who was hurt.
- One who has truly repented is willing to do whatever it takes, no matter how long it takes in order to earn back the trust that was lost as a result of his sin. He does not believe he is owed anything, but sees every opportunity toward reconciliation as an act of grace that he does not deserve.

It Is A Sin Against God And Ones Spouse
Infidelity is not only a sin against ones spouse, but also an attack on the sanctity of marriage. Adultery can cause great chaos in the lives of so many people. But even more importantly, infidelity is a sin against God. The reason these things occur in the first place is because of sin. Humans have decided that their way is better than Gods way. Humans have decided that fulfilling their own needs and desires is more important tan obeying and glorifying God. Thats why its so important to be rooted in Gods Word so that we are constantly in tune with the way that God sees it. If we dont line up our views with Gods views, its easy for sin to take place in our marriage.

Do Not Seek Revenge But Offer Forgiveness
Being cheated on is an incredibly painful experience. Wanting to lash out and get revenge is a powerful temptation, but Jesus teaches us to forgive. We do not have to accept the person back into our lives, but we can forgive and let go of the pain. Revenge will only make us feel worse.
- “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone” .
- “Make sure that no one ever pays back one wrong with another wrong. Instead, always try to do what is good for each other and everyone else” .
- “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses” .
Adultery is a horrible sin, and we must do everything we can to abstain from it. Do not listen to Satans whispers of temptation, but rather fill your heart with the love of God. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure.

Important Lessons About Infidelity From The Bible
If Christ is truly at the center of your marriage, it will likely last until death.
Adultery is one of the most common and damaging causes of marriage breakdowns. The act of infidelity doesnt just show a lack of commitment, but also a betrayal of the vows that husband and wife agree to uphold throughout their marriage. We know that adultery is a huge attack on marriage because Scripture tells us this. In the Old Testament, God deemed adultery a sin punishable by death. According to the world, infidelity isnt a severe offense and the consequences arent that severe, but the truth is cheating on a spouse can ruin marriage. It can damage marital relationships, family bonds and friendships to a point beyond repair. The damaging effects of infidelity arent limited to the innocent parties either. Those committing adultery suffer its ramifications too. While Christians and non-Christians regard infidelity as morally wrong, it is still a common sin among married couples. Often, when people think of infidelity, they turn to acts of physical intimacy, but it goes way beyond this. The truth is no one is immune to temptation. Its important that always stay in close relationship to God, so that He strengthens us to resist temptation. We do this by staying close to Gods Word and His Will related to marriage. Here are six important lessons about infidelity straight from the Bible.

The Apostle Paul Allowed Divorce For Abandonment
1 Corinthians 7:14-15
For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband for otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. Yet if the unbeliever leaves, let it be so. The brother or the sister is not bound in such circumstances God has called us to live in peace.
How To Deal With Infidelity Biblically With A Separation
Heres the thing, figuring all of this out is going to take time. Thats okay. I know you feel like you have to figure out how youre going to deal with this situation right now, but that is just the enemy trying to rush you into acting on your feelings instead of waiting on God.
If there is true repentance, it is going to take time for the fruit of that repentance to become obvious. You both need time to work through this mess with God and allow Him to guide your next steps.
Did you know there is an example in the Bible about the reconciliation of a marriage after infidelity? It can be found in the book of Hosea, and I think its a great place to look when seeking guidance on how to deal with infidelity Biblically!
God instructed Hosea to bring his unfaithful wife, Gomer, back into his house, but before the marriage would be restored, they were to spend a time in total abstinence.
Hosea 3:1-3 Then the Lord said to me, Go and love your wife again, even though she commits adultery with another lover So I bought her back for fifteen pieces of silver and five bushels of barley and a measure of wine. Then I said to her, You must live in my house for many days and stop your prostitution. During this time, you will not have sexual relations with anyone, not even with me.
Ask If The Person Is Sorry And Expect Them To Show Signs Of Contrition
The person that cheats should, at the very least, feel guilty and want to be forgiven.
But it also says that if a person keeps sinning there is no more grace left for them. If God doesn’t extend grace, then there comes a point that you don’t have to either.

What Does The Bible Say About Adultery Where Does Infidelity Start
Every person should be aware that adultery is a sin against God and His commandments, for it is written: Thou shalt not commit adultery . However, nowadays adultery rather seems to be the norm than the exception. This circumstance is caused by the deceitful understanding of marriage that is taught to most of us from the very beginning. It starts already with the fact that the Bible doesnt know the expressions boyfriend and girlfriend. This is because the people in the Bible usually didnt get into relationships between man and woman without getting married. However, it is quite normal today that you already get into such relationships in your childhood. This practice has serious consequences for the ability to be faithful at all.

Bible Verses About Infidelity
What does the Bible say about adultery?
Whether it is cheating in marriage or being unfaithful with your girlfriend or boyfriend, cheating is always a sin. Scripture has a lot to say about infidelity and how it can ruin people. Infidelity can tear entire families apart. It breaks the trust between two people who were once in love and is the ultimate act of betrayal. We must never listen to the whispers of Satan and keep adultery out of our hearts.
Adultery Can Take Place In The Heart
Scripture tells us, You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart . From this passage we know that adultery can take place within the heart and mind and is just as sinful as an outward act. Sometimes people get fooled into believing that this form of adultery isnt as bad because it doesnt directly impact families, friends and other people as much as a physical act, but it is still an attack on marriage and a sinful affront to the holiness of God. This also applies to the prevalence of pornography in society. While people think its a victimless offense, the damage pornography does the heart and those involved in marriage are just as devastating.

Infidelity Goes Hand In Hand With Lying
When someone commits adultery, they are lying to their significant other about being faithful. Lies can quickly build up trying to hide the transgressions. It is outlined in the Bible that lying is another sin that can quickly take the sinner far away from God.
- “Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal faithfully are His delight” .
- “Do not lie to one another, for you have stripped off the old nature with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new nature, which is being renewed in full knowledge, consistent with the image of the one who created it” .
- “A righteous person hates deceit, but the wicked person is shameful and disgraceful” .
- “Truthful words stand the test of time, but lies are soon exposed” .

The Law Of Moses Allowed Divorce For Abuse
The Law of Moses actually commanded divorce for breaking any of the three marriage vows in Exodus 21:10: food, clothing, and “marital rights,” which can be defined as love, as we read in the New Testament passages earlier.
If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish food, her clothing, or her marital rights. And if he does not do these three things for her, she shall go out for nothing, without payment of money.
In the Book of Exodus, if a man took a second wife, it was against Gods command to reduce the first wifes food, clothing, or marital rights . He was not allowed to demote her to slave status. If he was unwilling to treat her as a wife, he had to let her go so she could marry someone who would treat her properly.
The same was true for a prisoner-of-war wife who was captured during a battle. If a man took a captive as his wife, he had to do her the honor of letting her mourn before sleeping with her. As his wife, she must be treated properly, not just raped.
The Law of Moses required divorce in cases where a man reduced his wife to a slave or tried to sell her. He had to let her go and give her the freedom to marry someone else. The husband could not treat this woman any way he wanted. She was either a wife with rights, or she had to be set free.

Forgiveness And A Nonexistent Sin
Bradley S. Corbin, Bahai faith teacher
Infidelity has two meanings: one being unfaithful to a spouse or sexual partner, the other disbelief in a religion.
The Bahai Faith condemns infidelity in marriage, but this sin may be forgiven. Should anyone be afflicted by a sin, it behoveth him to repent thereof and return unto his Lord. He, verily, granteth forgiveness unto whomsoever He willeth, and none may question that which is pleaseth Him to ordain. He is, in truth, the Ever-Forgiving, the Almighty, the All-Praised .
All religious teachings of the past have divided the human world into two parts: people of the Book of God, or the pure tree and the other people of infidelity and error, or the evil tree. Bahá’u’lláh removed this division by proclaiming the oneness of the world of humanity this principle is specialized in His teachings. This principle removes infidelity in religion therefore there is no sin to be forgiven.
