The Word is also called the sword of the Spirit by Paul , and we can use it to battle those things that tempt us.
To Avoid Sexual Temptation We Must Fear Gods Judgment
If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into hell. If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into hell.

Interpretation Question: What does Christ mean by being thrown into hell for sexual immorality?
Being thrown into hell for sexual immorality seems confusing. How can Christ talk to his disciples about being thrown into hell for cultivating lustful thoughts? Christ died for our sins, and were called to accept his sacrifice in order to be saved. When we do this, we are forgiven of our sins. If this is true, why would we go to hell for sexual immorality?
Does this mean that a believer can lose his salvation? That doesnt seem to be the case, as taught by other Scriptures . However, Scripture constantly declares that many professing believers arent truly saved. Christ told the professing believers in Matthew 7:21-23 to depart from him as they were lawbreakers. Their lifestyle of sin proved that they had never been saved. He said to them I never knew you. Since this is written in the same context , that is probably the best way to interpret the judgment of hell.

Ways To Overcome Temptation

Temptation is the devil looking through the keyhole. Yielding is opening the door and inviting him in.
Its inevitable that temptations will come to us it is not inevitable that we must give in to them when they do. Scripture promises that, with temptation, God provides a way out . Consider the following three temptation experiences recorded in Scripture and the way out lessons learned in eachone negative and two positive.
1. Learn from EveDont believe the lie.
The lesson to learn from Eves fatal mistake when she was tempted is this: Dont believe Satans lie.
Since the Garden of Eden, Satan has been waging a battle for our minds. His strategy with Eve was to put a question mark where God had placed an exclamation mark: Did God really say? .
The devils tactics havent changed. He attacks by tempting us to question the word and the character of God. The lie of the devil is that we can find greater gratification apart from God, that sin will make us happier and more content. The lie is that we can be our own gods, that we can live for the created and not for the Creator without consequence.
Dont believe the lie. Sin never delivers what it promises.
Because of Gods transformative work in us, we dont have to fall captive to the devils lies. Instead, we go on the offense. Using the language of warfare, Paul said, we take every thought captive to obey Christ .

All You Need Is Love: Forgiveness
When Jesus saw faith, He said to the paralytic, Son, your sins are forgiven you.
The hardest part of forgiving another person is acting like the offense never occurred. But that is what forgiving someone meansrestoring relationships to the status they enjoyed before the offense took place. Its one thing to say, I forgive you, but its another to act like all the effects of an offense are completely erased. After all, according to Paul in 1 Corinthians 13, love is known by its actions more than its words.
Jesus faced this dilemma when He healed a paralytic man. When He told the man that his sins were forgiven , He was criticized. He was accused of blaspheming by saying He had the authority to forgive sinssomething only God can do. So, Jesus proved He had the authority to say, I forgive you, by doing something harder. He healed the mans paralysis. After all, as Jesus explained, actions speak louder than words .
We cannot go through life without being hurt by others, so we should learn to forgive. Even more, we should practice demonstrating our forgiveness by our acts of lovingkindness. Look for opportunities to do both.

Temptation Is Not Sin Yielding To Temptation Is
With that background, Paul exhorted believers not to make the same choices the Israelites madenot to provoke God’s discipline by willfully sinning. None of us is above God’s discipline if we engage in sin. We must look for and take “the way of escape” God provides in every situation where temptation is found . To think our temptation is unique is to believe a lie. “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man” . There are no “new” temptations in life.
The apostle James argued that if temptation becomes serious, it is because we have allowed it to do so. Our own “desires” entice us away from God and desire “gives birth to sin” . God doesn’t tempt us, but He may allow temptation to enter our lives in order to give us opportunities to make obedient and mature choices.
Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness, and He took the same means of escape that is available to usobedience to God’s Word . Temptation is not sin yielding to temptation is. There is always a righteous choice to be made if we are willing to seek it.

Prayer Against Temptation In The Bible
This might sound cliche, but how much do we do this? Do you get away from what is tempting you and actually go to pray? Dont just go and pray. Remove the things that are bringing temptation then go and pray. If you pray and youre still doing something that is tempting you it wont accomplish much.
Sometimes fasting is needed. Sometimes we have to starve the flesh. Fasting has really helped me stop sins I had to go to war over. Pray! How long do you spend alone with God daily? If your soul is not being fed spiritually, then it will be easier to fall in temptation.
14. Mark 14:38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
15. Luke 11:4 Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.
Ways To Resist Temptation Like Jesus
Jesus attention to the Word of God gave Him a spiritual reservoir to draw from in time of temptation. The Scriptures can do the same for us.

To Guard Our Eyes We Must Recognize The Power And Impact Of Images We View And Read
A 2012 study published in Psychological Science, showed that the more teens were exposed to sexual content in movies, the earlier they started having sex.4 Another study showed that boys exposed to sexually explicit media were 3 times more likely to engage in sexual activity within two years than non-exposed boys. The same study showed that girls were 1.5 to 2 times more likely to engage in sexual activity after exposure.5
The eyes are a doorway to the mind and whatever ones mind continually thinks on, a person will eventually do. If a person is going to be pure, he must be intentional about guarding his eyes. This will affect the types of movies watched, books read, and Internet sites visited. It will also affect how one looks at the opposite sex. For many, when they view the opposite sex, it is hard to not view them from a sexual standpoint. Their eyes continually trigger lustful thoughts and intentions, and if not combated, these eventually trigger lustful actions. When perverse images are continually viewed, a persons lust can become out of control, even leading to tragic acts such as sexual harassment, rape, molestation, etc.
Conversely, a person whose eyes are continually engaging with the Word of God and godly things will be controlled by them. Fruits of the Spirit will be born in their liveslove, joy, peace, and self-control .
What You Can Do
Know your convictions. If you dont know what you believe in, you can become like a puppet that others control. Its far better to follow the Bibles admonition: Make sure of all things hold fast to what is fine. The more you understand your beliefs, the easier it will be to hold fast to them and to resist the temptation to go contrary to them.
To think about: Why do you believe that Gods moral standards are for your own good?

Know your weaknesses. The Bible speaks of youthful desiresthe yearnings that are especially strong when you are young. These include not only sexual urges but also the desire to fit in and the desire for independence before you are ready for it.
To think about: The Bible says that each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. Which desire tempts you the most?
Be honest with yourself about which temptations you are most vulnerable to. Do research on how to fight those temptations, and write down points you can use. That way the next time you face that temptation, you will know how to resist.Sylvia.

You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery. But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Interpretation Question: Is it a sin to simply look at a person were attracted to?
When Christ says, whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart, he is not referring to an incidental or involuntary glance. The Greek word for looks is a present participle which refers to a continuous gaze.3 He speaks about the person who gazes to satisfy his or her lustful desires. It describes the person who watches an X-rated movie for the purpose of satisfying his lust. It describes the person who repeatedly looks at anothers figure to derive pleasure from it.
This is what happened with David before he committed adultery with Bathsheba . David didnt sin by looking at Bathsheba. He probably couldnt have avoided noticing a woman that was bathing in the nude on top of her roof! However, when he saw her, he could have immediately gone back into the house and fought to get those images and thoughts out of his mind, but he didnt. He continued to look, leading to lust, and then to the act of adultery. Therefore, if we are going to have victory against sexual temptation, we must guard our eyes.
How To Overcome Temptation
The good news is that God is so ready to help us. He is so willing to rescue us. The way to have victory over temptation is to utilize Gods help. And once again, James has something helpful to say. He wrote:
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
It is not a sin to be tempted. Temptation comes to us all. But it is a sin if we give in and act on the temptation.
So, lets look at the first instructions in these verses above: Submit yourselves, then to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
