- Hebrews 4:15 but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we areyet was without sin.

We Overcome Temptation By Recalling What God Has Saved Us From
Do you really want to go back there? Back to that place where you lacked wholeness, joy, and peace? Back to the burdens that weighed you down? To the habitual choices that felt good at the moment but instead brought hurt, shame, discontent, and emptiness?
Thats the reality of what happens when we making giving into temptation a habit. The very burdens Jesus died to free us from, and everything attached to them, we pick up and claim as our own again.
Its hard to go there, but sometimes we have to go there. We have to remind ourselves of all the things that Jesus brought us out of. Equally as important, we need to remind ourselves of what Jesus walked us into.
He gave us a new identity, He gave us new life, and the cherry on top of it all He gave us a relationship with God.
Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of our testimony.
And then we have to ask, are we willing to do what it takes to protect our relationship with Him and the healing Hes brought?
How To Overcome Temptation
The good news is that God is so ready to help us. He is so willing to rescue us. The way to have victory over temptation is to utilize Gods help. And once again, James has something helpful to say. He wrote:
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
It is not a sin to be tempted. Temptation comes to us all. But it is a sin if we give in and act on the temptation.
So, lets look at the first instructions in these verses above: Submit yourselves, then to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. One of the first and best ways to submit to God and resist the devil is to pray. Here is a prayer about temptation from the Gospel Coalition in an article by Scotty Smith from 2013:

Sometimes we would rather complain than make war. We have to make war with sin until death. Go to war with those thoughts. Go to war when that sin seeks to pick at you. Jesus Is Tested In The Wilderness
4Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
3 The devil said to him, If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.
4 Jesus answered, It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone.
5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6 And he said to him, I will give you all their authority and splendor it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours.
8 Jesus answered, It is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.
9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. If you are the Son of God, he said, throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written:
He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully 11 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
12 Jesus answered, It is said: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.
13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.

To Avoid Sexual Temptation We Must Fear Gods Judgment
If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into hell. If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into hell.
Interpretation Question: What does Christ mean by being thrown into hell for sexual immorality?
Being thrown into hell for sexual immorality seems confusing. How can Christ talk to his disciples about being thrown into hell for cultivating lustful thoughts? Christ died for our sins, and were called to accept his sacrifice in order to be saved. When we do this, we are forgiven of our sins. If this is true, why would we go to hell for sexual immorality?
Does this mean that a believer can lose his salvation? That doesnt seem to be the case, as taught by other Scriptures . However, Scripture constantly declares that many professing believers arent truly saved. Christ told the professing believers in Matthew 7:21-23 to depart from him as they were lawbreakers. Their lifestyle of sin proved that they had never been saved. He said to them I never knew you. Since this is written in the same context , that is probably the best way to interpret the judgment of hell.
This is the consistent witness of Scriptureour lives prove the reality of our faith, whether it is genuine or false. First Corinthians 6:9-10 says,
Do you fear Gods judgment?
In Order To Guard Our Minds We Must Saturate Ourselves With Gods Word And Other Things That Represent Its Truths
Similar to the last point, Philippians 4:8-9 says,
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things. And what you learned and received and heard and saw in me, do these things. And the God of peace will be with you.
The more we saturate our minds with whats true, the less room we have for lies. We should meditate on Gods Word in the morning and at night and throughout the day. When we do this, it brings Gods presence and blessings . We should leave the enemy no room to work within our hearts.
