In a nutshell, the Bible is clear that we should not judge one another. The reason for this is because God will judge us in the same way that we have judged others. We need to be careful about passing judgment on others as God will judge us for our actions towards each other.

We are not to take it upon ourselves to decide who is right or wrong when it comes to matters of faith and doctrine. This sort of thing is best left up to God and those whom He has called into His ministry . To do so would be like trying to run before learning how to walkan impossible task!

Instead of being busy pointing out others mistakes, why not focus on correcting your own to avoid Gods judgment in the end?

You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before Gods judgment seat. It is written: As surely as I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow before me every tongue will acknowledge God. So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.

To take such satisfaction for injuries done to society, is lawful and proper for a magistrate Rom_13:4. And to take satisfaction for injuries done by sin to the universe, is the province of God. But the apostle here is addressing private individual Christians. And the command is, to avoid a spirit and purpose of revenge. But this command is not to be so understood that we may not seek for justice in a regular and proper way before civil tribunals. If our character is assaulted, if we are robbed and plundered, if we are oppressed contrary to the law of the land, religion does not require us to submit to such oppression and injury without seeking our rights in an orderly and regular manner. If it did, it would be to give a premium to iniquity, to countenance wickedness, and require a man, by becoming a Christian, to abandon his rights.

As a Christian, you are still accountable to your brothers and sisters in Christ. You still have the responsibility to rebuke and help them be restored in their relationship with God. However, you must do this in love and gentleness.

The four scriptures above actually do not contradict each other. They represent a complete understanding of the subject of judging. They teach how judging is done appropriately and how judging is done inappropriately.

We should judge actions and ideas, but first we must judge our own lives. In basic terms, correct judgment is determining the righteousness or unrighteousness of an idea or behavior using the Bible as the standard. Incorrect judgment is pointing the finger at other people for doing the things we are guilty of, or excusing ourselves for our sins while condemning others for their sins.

The point iswe should judge actions and ideas, but first we must judge our own lives. Judging others by a standard we do not demonstrate ourselves is unrighteous judgment.

Here are some questions to consider in determining which kind of judgment we practice:

• Do we discern what is right and wrong and then encourage the right?
• Do we have the biblical knowledge and the fortitude to not ignore sin, but to avoid it?
• Do we make sure we avoid judging in a way that is only designed to make us feel personally superior to another person?
• Have we become so prideful and uncaring that we have lost our ability to be merciful and forgiving?

Dont Judge Others Before Examining Yourself First

We are not to judge others. We must examine ourselves first and not be quick to judge others. James 4:11 says, Dont speak evil against one another, brethren. In 1 Corinthians 10:24, Paul writes, Let no one seek his own interest, but that of the other person. In Romans 14:10-12 Paul says that Christians should not judge each other in matters of conscience . Instead we should let God be a judge between usand leave it at that!

We can learn from the example of Jesus Christ who never judged anyone instead He forgave all people and was kind even when someone hurt Him or tried to kill Him! Remember what we saw in1 Corinthians 5. Paul said I decided to turn such a person over to Satan for the destruction of his body, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord. 1 Corinthians 5:3-5

Have you ever been in a situation where somebody tried to correct another person by saying, âJudge not, that ye be not judgedâ? . Few of Jesusâs teachings are more widely known than this one. Unfortunately, this phrase is not always correctly understood or applied. Our ability to benefit from this command will increase as we examine how Jesus Christ used it in His teachings and how His prophets have reiterated it through time.

Letâs begin by looking at how the Savior used this âjudge notâ phrase. Preceding this command are the first two chapters of His Sermon on the Mount . This sermon is filled with commands that set the bar of discipleship very highâso high, in fact, that nobody can succeed without the merciful help of the Lord. As we learn in those chapters, it is no longer enough for His followers to refrain from killing or committing adultery or to love only those who love us it is now required to not get angry, not allow immoral thoughts to linger, and to love our enemies . Ultimately, true followers of Christ are to be âperfect, even as Father which is in heaven is perfectâ .1 This includes praying, fasting secretly rather than publicly, and giving charitable gifts.

Christian Judging The Meaning Of Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged

What does Jesus mean when He says, Judge not, that you be not judged. ?

For modern westerners, this single verse is one of the most misunderstood and, therefore, misapplied verses in all of Scripture. I grew up hearing this defense mechanism, Judge not, lest ye be judged, when someone pointed out sin in anothers life. Sometimes the confrontation was done with vain motives , but sometimes not. Nevertheless, either kind of attempt to expose and correct sin in another was blocked by misquoting Matthew 7:1 as a shield for sin.

But is that what the verse means, that no one can judge anyone else or, for that matter, even inform others about their sin, so that the one whom informs will not be judged themselves? Well, lets reason it out with the Scriptures.

1) God will judge every sin, and He will judge every sin no matter who you are . He can do this because He not only sees all we do He sees the true intentions of our heart . Thus, no amount of overlooking someone elses sin will cause God to overlook your sin.

This is not to shame or humiliate or to gain a superior spiritual standing over someone else. No, Jesus says the sin should be first confronted privately between you and him alone . We are to go and tell them so that we may love them, truly. The uncomfortable conversation must be had so that we may keep our brothers and sisters in Christ from the awful effects of sin and sins ultimate end: death and eternal condemnation .
