The Godly Will Appreciate An Honest Rebuke

Do Not Judge Others – Luke 6:37-42

Sometimes at first we do buckle up against it, but then we realize I needed to hear this.

19. Psalm 141:5 Let a righteous man strike methat is a kindness let him rebuke methat is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.

20. Proverbs 9:8 Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you rebuke the wise and they will love you.

Bible Verses About Judging Righteously

We are to judge, but we are not to judge by appearance. This is something that we all struggle with and we have to pray for help with. Whether we are at school, work, the grocery store, etc. We like to judge people by what we see, what they are wearing, what they are buying and this should not be. We see a poor person and think he got that way because he was an addict. We have to continually pray for help with the spirit of judgmentalism.

15. John 7:24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.

16. Leviticus 19:15 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

Matthew : 15 New Century Version

1 Dont judge others, or you will be judged. 2 You will be judged in the same way that you judge others, and the amount you give to others will be given to you.

3 Why do you notice the little piece of dust in your friends eye, but you dont notice the big piece of wood in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your friend, Let me take that little piece of dust out of your eye? Look at yourself! You still have that big piece of wood in your own eye. 5 You hypocrite! First, take the wood out of your own eye. Then you will see clearly to take the dust out of your friends eye.

Should We Really Not Judge

  • We should not pass judgment on others. Passing judgment means to declare someone guilty and pass on them a sentence like a judge does in a court. This duty is reserved for God or for those in authority like real judges. This means that we shouldnt be making up punishments for people in our minds. So-and-so slept with her boyfriend in high school so she doesnt deserve to be on the worship team. or I know that so-and-so doesnt tithe, so God shouldnt have given him such a fancy car. Unless an area is under our authority, were not to pass our judgements as to what punishments others deserve.
  • We should not judge others motives. Paul cautions in I Cor 4:5 that we should not judge others deeds until Christ comes because we dont know their true motives. Interestingly, this is in reference to giving a church leader too much praise but regardless of the context, the concept of not judging motives is very important. We dont know peoples hearts. Only God does. And thats what matters most. If we try to pretend we know what someone is thinking or why they do what we do, were fooling ourselves. And acting like a fool.
  • What Does It Mean To Judge Righteously

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same ...

At the other end of the dont judge command is the exhortation to judge righteously. Jesus admonished the crowds and the leaders of Jerusalem during a Festival of Booths,

Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment. John 7:24 ESV

The scribes and Pharisees were angry because Christ had chosen to heal a man on the Sabbath but thought nothing of circumcising a child if the eight day fell on a Sabbath .

The word translated as righteous is the Greek word díkaios, meaning equitable by implication, innocent, holy , just. Díkaios, is used in the Bible when referring to things approved of or acceptable of God.

To judge righteously, is to judge the way God does: not by appearances and having all the facts and knowing all the motives. I thought a lot about why we should not judge others as I read Tacos for Two. Rory had an image of who Jude was and interpreted every thing he did through her own biases.

We Are To Speak The Truth In Love

Some people judge with a bad heart to just tell someone off. There are some people who have a judgmental critical spirit and they search for something wrong with others, which is sinful. Some people are always putting others down and judging rudely. Some people put roadblocks in front of new believers and they will make them feel like they are in chains. Some people hold up big vicious signs to scare people. What they are doing is provoking people to anger.

We are to speak the truth in love and gentleness. We are to humble ourselves and know that we are sinners as well. We have all fallen short. I am not going to search for something wrong with you. I am not going to say something about every little last thing because I wouldnt want anyone to do it to me. No one will like you if you have a heart of a Pharisee. For example, if a curse world slips out of your mouth I am not going to jump on you.

That has happened to me before. Now its a different story if you profess to be a believer and you are constantly cursing and using your mouth for wickedness without a care in the world. I will come to you with love, gentleness, and Scripture. Remember its always good to humble yourself and talk about your failures so the person and you will know its coming from a good heart.

    21. Ephesians 4:15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.

Christian Judging The Meaning Of Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged

What does Jesus mean when He says, Judge not, that you be not judged. ?

For modern westerners, this single verse is one of the most misunderstood and, therefore, misapplied verses in all of Scripture. I grew up hearing this defense mechanism, Judge not, lest ye be judged, when someone pointed out sin in anothers life. Sometimes the confrontation was done with vain motives , but sometimes not. Nevertheless, either kind of attempt to expose and correct sin in another was blocked by misquoting Matthew 7:1 as a shield for sin.

But is that what the verse means, that no one can judge anyone else or, for that matter, even inform others about their sin, so that the one whom informs will not be judged themselves? Well, lets reason it out with the Scriptures.

    1) God will judge every sin, and He will judge every sin no matter who you are . He can do this because He not only sees all we do He sees the true intentions of our heart . Thus, no amount of overlooking someone elses sin will cause God to overlook your sin.

This is not to shame or humiliate or to gain a superior spiritual standing over someone else. No, Jesus says the sin should be first confronted privately between you and him alone . We are to go and tell them so that we may love them, truly. The uncomfortable conversation must be had so that we may keep our brothers and sisters in Christ from the awful effects of sin and sins ultimate end: death and eternal condemnation .

God Is The Judge Of All Created Things

Before we jump into what judging others looks like, we must have a right view of God as judge.

Psalm 50:4 says: He summons the heavens above, and the earth to judge His people.

God is the judge of all things and all people. And He is not a judge of outward appearances but judges the heart.

1 Chronicles 28:9 says: “As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts If you seek Him, He will let you find Him but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.

God, in His infinite wisdom searches the hearts of men, understands our intentions, and calls us to follow Him. He is not an angry, harsh judge, but rather a judge who looks at the sin within the human heart and calls us to repentance and salvation in Jesus .

We must see God as a just, merciful judge whose intentions and commands are for our good and the good of others . And we must acknowledge that our sinful hearts are prone to judge and in a need of a gracious Savior.

    You Must Judge Others

Do Not Judge Others (Matthew 7:1) 19.1

Most of the scripture passages dealing with judging tell us to judge or evaluate others. We are commanded to evaluate false teachers. Otherwise, you would not know they are false teachers. Today, many Christians are willing to believe a person who has a charismatic personality, is funny, or is eloquent. But this is not the criteria for truth. To determine if someone is a false teacher, we must evaluate what he or she is saying . We are also told to seriously evaluate the life style of our spiritual leaders . We are encouraged to reject an argumentative person and a lazy person . We are commanded to help other Christians who are sinning to stop sinning . We are required to evaluate one another objectively, fairly and with balance.

Matthew 7:1 is not about not evaluating others, but is about unjust criticism. The root Greek word that Jesus used for judge is KRINO. It is a simple word meaning to divide out, to sift, resolve, to determine, and to judge. Our modern day word critic gives the right idea. It has the idea of an unfair evaluation. The word Jesus uses is simple in its meaning. There are no surprises.

My Review Of Tacos For Two

When Rorys aunt dies and left her beloved food truck to her, it was a responsibility she took very seriously even though she couldnt cook and had zero desire to become a chef. The food truck competition was an opportunity to earn some much needed funds while she dreamed of someday doing something that she loved. When competition shows up in the form of lawyer-turned-food-truck-owner Jude, Rory is not amused. Sparks fly between the two but their relationship is doomed before it even begins.

It was easy to like Rory. You could see right from the start that she had some baggage from past hurts and that she genuinely cared about the people she felt responsible for.

She continued to work at making her familys food truck a viable business though it was not what she wanted as a career.

Jude was also stuck in a job he hated with family who were manipulative and underhanded but I respect him for trying to stand up for himself.

There were so many times when I hoped they could have been friends but Rory was so quick to jump to conclusions that sometimes I just wanted to smack her. I get why she had relationship phobia, I really do, but she was so determined to think the worst of Jude that it was downright annoying.

    Judge With Right Judgment

How we judge others says far more about us than how we are judged by others. This is why God will judge us in the manner we judge others, not in the manner they judge us. Therefore, we must judge with right judgment . And right judgment is charitably quick to believe innocence, charitably slow to pronounce guilt, charitably redemptive when it must be, and charitably silent if at all possible.

And when in doubt, judge not.

To Judge Or Not To Judge

One of the most abused verses against a discerning or a reproving Christian is Matthew 7:1. As soon as the one being rebuked senses a little conviction about their wrong-doing, the verse is usually misquoted , to thwart the reproof. When the Bible verse is heard, the Christian, who is usually only trying to share what the Bible says about the subject, silences his discussion as he does not want to appear to be in error or sin also.

What does the Bible really say about judging?Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete , it shall be measured to you again. Matthew 7:1, 2

We learn in atthew 7:1-2 that if we are harshly or unjustly critical of others, we will be judged accordingly. No one wants to be strictly judged by a perfect God for our weaknesses. We want are sins to be overlooked. We should do the same with the faults of others.

We need to keep our own hypocrisy to ourselves as Matthew 7:5 reminds us: Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brothers eye. Many times those that are the most critical have the most sin! We need to judge ourselves and our own doings!

The dogs and swine spoken of here were understood by the Jews as ceremoniously unclean and lowly creatures. Jesus gave them a graphic picture of what Jesus thought of the ungodly and blasphemers.

    Bible Verses About Not Judging

    Matthew 7:1

Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.

Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of mens hearts and then each mans praise will come to him from God.

How Judging Relates To Fellow Believers

We often hear claims from Christians that we are not to make judgments about other believers, especially as it relates to their erroneous teachings on Genesis. Again, the Matthew 7:1 passage is used as a justification for this type of attitude. Now, the ministry of Answers in Genesis acknowledges that there are many Christian pastors and leaders who sincerely have a love for the Lord Jesus Christ. These men have led many to Christ, work diligently with much perseverance for the kingdom of God, and minister to the hurting and sickall because they have been transformed by the finished work of Christ on the Cross and His Resurrection from the dead. However, just like the rest of us, they are fallible and can fall into error, even regarding the issue of origins.

Scripture provides many examples of how Gods people can be in error.

The core message of Answers in Genesis is one of defending biblical authority and proclaiming the gospel, which brings controversy when it comes to the topic of judging. For instance, in addition to dealing with the issues above from a biblical perspective, Answers in Genesis points out that there are many Christians who add evolution and/or millions of years to Scripture. We expose this compromise not to make harsh judgments about the person or his spiritual walk, but to show the inconsistency of a Christian leader towards Genesisand the negative implications that it can have on the rest of Scripture.

How Do We Know When It Is Okay To Judge Someone

In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul is very clear as he writes to the church about who we are and are not supposed to judge.

For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders ? Do you not judge those who are within the church ? God alone sits in judgment on those who are outside .

We are not called to judge people who are not self-proclaiming Christians. God is the judge of all and will judge those outside the church. However, we are called to judge the sin of believers inside the church. Just a chapter prior, Paul lays out a clear mandate for what is acceptable to judge in a fellow brother or sister.

1 Corinthians 4:5 states that we must not judge the hiddenpurposes of the heart. In his article Judge Not, That You May Judge Well on Desiring God, Jon Bloom says it this way:

We must not judge the hidden . . . purposes of the heart of other Christians based on their decisions, actions, perspectives, words, or personality that concern us if those things themselves are not explicitly sinful . We must not assume sin if we suspect sin, given how biased our suspicions can be.
