Bible experts believe a great war will unfold in the end days, wrapping up a seven-year period of strife known as the Great Tribulation. Dubbed the Battle of Armageddon, scholars have long debated where the conflict will take place. According to college professor and public speaker Tom Meyer, there are historical and biblical clues that shed light on the matter.

Armageddon: The End Or The Beginning

Armageddon signals the end of the world, which is defined as âthe destruction of the wickedâ . But it prepares the way for the ushering in of the millennial reign of Christ and the era of peace that will endure for a thousand years. Mankind will enter a remarkable period of righteousness, health, education, prosperity, and security.

The millennial era could not begin without the widespread destruction of the wicked. Therefore, while the battle of Armageddon is in and of itself a thing horrible to contemplate, it is necessary because of the wickedness of the world, and ultimately it will play an important part in the Lordâs plan for redemption of the world. President Joseph Fielding Smith observed:

âSo I pray every day of my life that the Lord will hasten His work and while all this has to take place, I hope He will hasten it, that it may soon come to an end, that peace may come and so I repeat, as I said in one of the talks some time ago, I am praying for the end of the world because I want a better world. I want the coming of Christ. I want the reign of peace. I want the time to come when every man can live in peace and in the spirit of faith, humility and prayer.â

Something For Jerusalem To Celebrate

Pin on Christmas Shopping Idea :D

Is a time of peace and safety still possible in Jerusalem? According to Bible prophecy, it will serve as a model city for the entire world. But only under the righteous government of God, compassionately administered through Jesus Christ, will such a wonderful time arrive.

Jesus will bring to fulfillment many prophetic passages that picture a glorious future for Jerusalem. At Christ’s coming, King David will be resurrected to eternal life to lead all of Israel into paths of righteousness, peace and justice . The “Israel” referred to in these prophecies includes far more peoples than just the tribe of Judah.

Some 3,000 years ago, David began a healing process when he was crowned king of the 12 tribes of Israel in Hebron. Notice what the tribes said during his coronation acclamation: “Indeed, we are your bone and your flesh. Also, in time past, even when Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in and the Lord your God said to you, ‘You shall shepherd My people Israel . . .'” .

King David’s coronation in ancient Israel foreshadowed a far greater future coronation: that of Jesus the Messiah. Jesus Christ will return not only as a conquering King, but also as a loving Shepherd. He will heal and unify a world torn by strife and sin. Then Jerusalem will at last see true and lasting peace for the benefit of all peoples throughout the entire world.

The Invading Armies Will Be Utterly Destroyed By God

In Ezekiel 39 the Bible goes on to warn the invading armies will be utterly destroyed Also in Ezekiel 39 there are hints this coming war may go nuclear because Israel will wait months to enter the battlefield after the battle, they will set apart men regularly employed to bury the dead, and later if a bone is spotted it is to be marked for the professionals to bury the aftermath of this invasion will be very, very gruesome.

Some scholars feel it must be part of, or the beginning of The Battle of Armageddon , and others believe it must happen sometime before Armageddon and will set the stage for the coming Antichrist to fill the world power vacuum that will be left after this coming war

The United States will be neutralized sometime before this attack and will be unwilling or unable to help defend Israel, for the Bible warns Israel must stand alone with God!

More importantly, many good Bible prophecy scholars believe the strange prophetic event called The Rapture must take place sometime before God intervenes in this coming battle

Nebuchadnezzar Ii’s Conquest Of Jerusalem

In 587 B.C., the Babylonian Empire, led by King Nebuchadnezzar II, conquered Jerusalem. The Hebrew Bible says that the Babylonian force looted and set fire to the First Temple, the holiest temple for the Jewish people. The Babylonians also tore down Jerusalem’s walls, sacked and destroyed much of the city and deported much of the populace to various sites around the Babylonian Empire. The Kingdom of Judah was destroyed.

Recently, several cuneiform tablets have emerged in Iraq that describe the lives of the Jews who were exiled to Babylonia. The tablets say that some of the exiles and their descendants lived at a village called l-Yahdu which means the “village of Judea.” The tablets say that the exiled people who lived at l-Yahdu adopted local languages and legal traditions. Many of the tablets have been purchased by private collectors from the antiquities market, raising concerns that the tablets were looted.

The Gathering Of The Armies Of The World

The armies of the world which converge upon the Middle East according to Revelation 16:13 are induced to engage in the final conflict by satanic influences. This is introduced in the statement of John the Apostle: I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty .

Three major armies are mentioned in the Bible, namely, the army from the north, the army from the east, and the army from the south. These three armies are combining their efforts to wrest power from the Roman ruler who may be considered as the king of the west, although this title is never given to him in the Scriptures. The focal point for their gathering is declared in Revelation 16:16 to be a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. Although various explanations have been given of this title, it seems to refer to the valley of Esdraelon also known as the valley of Jezreel located to the east of Megiddo in northern Israel. The word Armageddon actually means Mount of Megiddo from har meaning mount and Megiddo.

Iran Tensions Could Fulfill Prophecies About The End Of The World Some Religious Teachers Say

The Future of Israel

Smoke and flames have turned Australias skies blood-red, and wildfires still rage. Dozens of people died in recent floods in Jakarta, and Puerto Rico was hit with a series of earthquakes.

The torrent of troubling news swelled in the early days of 2020, as tensions with Iran flared after the United States killed Irans Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani in an airstrike in Baghdad. Late Tuesday, President Trump sought to ease Americans fears by tweeting, All is well!

But as conflict in the Middle East intensified and natural disasters struck, some voices are taking the opportunity to offer biblical interpretations. Religious teachers and authors, especially some conservative Christians, often draw on these kinds of current events as examples of how various predictions and descriptions in the Old and New Testaments could be coming true.

Many of these religious leaders view actions in Iran, a Muslim-majority country, as playing a special role in these predictions, which usually focus on the apocalypse, or the end of days.

California-based prophecy writer Bill Salus told viewers this week on the show Prophecy Watchers that Iran is the elephant in the room in the Middle East hes the bully. Salus suggested on the show that God is angry with the current Iranian leadership and that Christians should watch recent events as likely to fulfill biblical prophecies.

I really do believe this is going to lead to other things, Salus said. This is number one on my radar.

What Does The Bible Say About Jerusalem

For Christians, Jesus, their messiah, died in Jerusalem and came back to life there. They trace his genealogy back to King David, who established the monarchy in Jerusalem and whose descendants, according to the Hebrew Bible, will include the messiah.

Jerusalem is one of the main pilgrimage destinations for millions of Christians who visit the empty tomb of Jesus to pray at the site.

Armageddon: The Final Extremity

John showed that eventually the two prophets will be captured and killed by the opposing army, and their bodies will be left in the streets of Jerusalem for âthree days and an halfâ as the forces of evil engage in a great celebration over their death .

âThat level of spiritual debauchery is shown forth by the fact that the wicked not only slay the prophets of God, but boast of their deeds and glory in them. Such people, as the Jaredites and Nephites before them, are ripened in iniquity and are ready for that destruction and burning which shall cleanse the vineyard of corruption when Jesus descends with his chariots of fire.â

During the âthree days and an halfâ that the prophets lie dead in the streets, the army will ravage the city of Jerusalem and the remaining population of Israel . Elder Pratt explained: âAfter a struggle of three years and a half, they will at length succeed in destroying these two prophets and then overrunning much of the city they will send gifts to each other because of the death of the two prophets, and in the meantime will not allow their dead bodies to be put in graves, but will suffer them to lie in the streets of Jerusalem three days and a half, during which time the armies of the Gentiles, consisting of many kindreds, tongues, and nations, passing through the city, plundering the Jews, will see their dead bodies lying in the street.â

Who Owns The City

Israel claims all of Jerusalem as its capital, while the Palestinians claim the citys eastern sector, captured by Israel in the 1967 Mideast war, as the capital of a future independent state. These rival claims lie at the heart of the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

While Israel controls the city and its government is based there, its annexation of east Jerusalem is not internationally recognized. The international community overwhelmingly says the final status of Jerusalem should be resolved through negotiations.

Why Is Jerusalem Important To Three Major Religions

Does the Bible say anything about holy war?

Known in Hebrew as Yerushalayim and in Arabic as al-Quds, it is one of the oldest cities in the world.

The religious importance of this city dates to the days of the Old Testament and 1050 B.C. when Israel’s King David conquered Jerusalem. His son, Solomon, expanded on the construction David began, raising the Temple on the Mount that would later be finished by Herod. A remnant of a massive, western retaining wall for the temple ruins is now the Wailing Wall or Western Wall of Jewish prayer and pilgrimage.

Close by is the Muslim Dome of the Rock from where Mohammed ascended, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam’s holiest sites. Christians travel to Jerusalem to follow the path Jesus walked before the crucifixion and visit the Christian Church of the Holy Sepulchre built by Crusaders in the 12th century over the site of Christ’s tomb.

The discovery of broken storage jars, scroll wrappings, string, and a piece of worked leather, as well as pickaxe heads from looters in the 1950s, proves the Dead Sea Scrolls were once stored there. It was the first major discovery related to the Dead Sea Scrolls in 60 years.

The Background Of Our Text

Jesus had marched on Jerusalem. While there was an enthusiastic crowd to greet Him, Jesus knew that this was not the day of His coronation. There would be a cross before there was to be a crown, as He had already told His disciples on a number of occasions. Jesus wept over this city, for He knew that as a result of its rejection of Him as Messiah, a day of judgment was coming upon it:

If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. For the days shall come upon you when your enemies will throw up a bank before you, and surround you, and hem you in on every side, and will level you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation .

The Jews Conquer Much Of Canaan

After the death of Joshua the Israelites asked God which of the 12 tribes should lead in fighting the pagan Canaanites .

Notice God’s immediate reply: “And the Lord said, ‘Judah shall go up. Indeed I have delivered the land into his hand'” (Judges 1:2Judges 1:2And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

American King James Version×).

Benjamin also had failed to conquer Jerusalem. Judges 1:21Judges 1:21And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.American King James Version×tells us that “the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem so the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day .” So for a considerable time the city apparently remained a Jebusite stronghold in the midst of Israelite territory.

Armageddon: The Army Of Gog

E-216: Israel And The Middle-East In Bible Prophecy (The End Times-2)

Several of the prophets vividly described in figurative language the power and massiveness of this army.

Ezekiel described it as âclothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swordsâ and as coming like âa stormâ and âa cloud to cover the landâ , having âmany peopleâ with him, âall of them riding upon horses , a great company, and a mighty armyâ .

Daniel described the âking of the northâ as coming with a âgreat armyâ which others have no âstrength to withstandâ and as coming âlike a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass overâ . Elder Joseph Fielding Smith specifically identified Daniel 11â12as referring to the last days .

Joel stated that the army would be the greatest army in the history of the world up to that point . He described it as being like a âfireâ that devours the land, leaving what had looked like the âgarden of Edenâ before their coming as âa desolate wildernessâ . Joel also said that the army would be highly disciplined in warfare and virtually invincible: âWhen they fall upon the sword, they shall not be woundedâ .
