Why Is There An Increase Of Evil

Evil has been escalating since Jesus walked the earth two thousand years ago. Today, you can view the news on television or your smart phone and read the print media to see this increase of evil. Another indicative source for the prevalence of evil is the Catholic Churchs demand for exorcists. In the United States, the official bishop-appointed vanquishers of evil spirits now number more than fifty. As Pope Francis once said in a mass, this generation has been led to believe the devil is a myth, but the devil exists.2

One author made this observation about society. Much of what was standard Christian morals have been taken for granted in our country for many generations. It was a part of the fabric upon which our society was built. Yet that foundation, that has slowly been eroding, is now rapidly crumbling right before our eyes. Abhorring what is evil and cleaving to what is good has shifted to accepting what is evil and leaving what is good.3

He added that several decades ago, many of our cultural standards were illegal and frowned upon. Just about ten years ago, they then became acceptable, as long as it didnt influence others. But today, if we dont fully embrace those things in a positive way, we are silenced and condemned as hateful and intolerant.4 Good becomes evil, and evil becomes good. The cultural world has flipped upside down.

How do evil people get saved? Ff not by works, how do we get saved? Are we all going to hell because we cant meet the requirements? The honest answer is yes. However, I want you to realize how much God loves you. God would still be loving if He sent the entire human race to hell. We are not worthy of Him. God loved you so much that He came down in the form of man to satisfy His requirements. Never in the history of the universe has a good judge ever said, Im going to take your death penalty and switch places with you. Thats what God did.

The holy judge of the universe came down in the form of man and took your place. Jesus was fully man to live the life that man couldnt and He was fully God because only God is holy. His blood had to be shed. You cant repay Him. Repaying Him is like saying, Jesus is not enough. I need Jesus and something else. Blasphemy! Jesus drunk the full extent of Gods wrath and not one drop was left. Jesus went on the cross and He bore your sins, He was buried, and on the third day He was resurrected defeating sin and death!

15. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life no one comes to the Father but through Me.

16. Colossians 1:21-22 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christs physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.

Where Did Evil Originate?

The word evil first appears in the Bible in Genesis 2:17: You must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die. God created humans with the ability to choose good and evil. When they did, sin entered the world, as did judgment . This judgment also extended to the serpent, Satan, the one who deceived humanity and continues to do so.

Notice that evil did not originate from God. Humans sinned as the result of listening to the lie of Satan. Satan was one of Gods created beings, yet one who turned to evil and brought it to humanity. God did not create evil, but he did create a universe in which evil could exist, including humans with the ability to choose good or evil.

As the result of Adam and Eves disobedience, sin passed on to the rest of humanity . Theologians call this the sin nature. Many think of evil people as drug dealers or terrorists, but the Bible is clear that every person has a sin nature and sins in life. The penalty the Bible describes for these sins is death .

Question Of A Universal Definition

A fundamental question is whether there is a universal, transcendent definition of evil, or whether one’s definition of evil is determined by one’s social or cultural background. C. S. Lewis, in The Abolition of Man, maintained that there are certain acts that are universally considered evil, such as rape and murder. However, the rape of women, by men, is found in every society, and there are more societies that see at least some versions of it, such as marital rape or punitive rape, as normative than there are societies that see all rape as non-normative . In nearly all societies, killing except for defense or duty is seen as murder. Yet the definition of defense and duty varies from one society to another.Stanley Milgram‘s 1974 experiments were designed to explain how thousands of ordinary, non-deviant, people could have reconciled themselves to a role in the Holocaust. He showed that ordinary humans have the capacity for evil behavior when influenced, manipulated, or pressed into it by authority figures. Social deviance is not uniformly defined across different cultures, and is not, in all circumstances, a necessarily aspect of evil.

What Does Good Mean

Top 20 Evil Bible Stories

Lets learn the real definition of good. We know that God is good. The Bible goes to great lengths to make this truth known to us. Psalm 136:1, Psalm 34:8, Psalm 119:68, Nahum 1:7, and Psalm 135:3 are just a few examples.

We can often get behind this. Its easy to believe that goodness is a basic attribute of God. Its harder for us to believe that God is always good and the only good. To the first point, 1 John 1:5 offers us some encouragement. It states, This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Gods ways and actions may not always make sense to us or fit what we would call good, but we can trust that His definition of good is better and He is always operating out of His perfect character. For the second point, we look to the words of Jesus.

In Mark 10, verse 18, we see Him interacting with a rich man. Why do you call me good? Jesus answered. No one is goodexcept God alone. These ideas stretch our thinking, and require a lot of faith. I am praying for all of us, that our trust in God would be strengthened and that we would conclude what has been true all along: God is goodness defined.

Examples Of Old Testament Contradictions

The contradictions start in the opening chapters of the Bible, where inconsistent creation stories are told. Genesis chapter 1 says the first man and woman were made at the same time, and after the animals. But Genesis chapter 2 gives a different order of creation: man, then the animals, and then woman.

Genesis chapter 1 lists six days of creation, whereas chapter 2 refers to the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens. Genesis 1:2-3 claims that God created light and divided it from darkness on the first day but Genesis 1:14-19 tells us the sun, moon, and stars werent made until the fourth day.

Chapter 1 reports that the fruit trees were created before the man, while chapter 2 indicates they were made after him. Genesis 1:20 says the fowl were created out of the waters Genesis 2:19 alleges they were formed from the ground.

Contradictions are also seen in the biblical story of a worldwide flood. According to Genesis 6:19-22, God ordered Noah to bring of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort . . . into the ark. Nevertheless, Genesis 7:2-3 relates that the Lord ordered Noah to take into the ark the clean beasts and the birds by sevens, and only the unclean beasts by twos.

Genesis 8:4 reports that, as the waters of the flood receded, Noahs ark rested on the mountains of Ararat in the seventh month. The very next verse, however, says the mountaintops could not be seen until the tenth month.

Many of the evils that come upon men have not been intended by those who suffer for them. Disease, individual and national calamity, drought, scarcity of food, may not always be charged to the account of intentional wrong. Many times the innocent suffer with, and even for, the guilty. In such cases, only physical evil is apparent. Even when the suffering has been occasioned by sin or dereliction of duty, whether the wrong is active or passive, many, perhaps the majority of those who are injured, are not accountable in any way for the ills which come upon them. Neither is God the author of moral evil. “God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man” . See Temptation .

Hastings’ Dictionary Of The New Testament

This article is not a study of the word evil as substantive, adjective, or adverb in the two senses of bad and hurtful, for which the use of a concordance may suffice but of the conception of evil in the apostolic writings. Three senses of the term have been distinguished by Leibniz: metaphysical -the necessary imperfection of the creature as compared with the Creator physical -pain, suffering, sorrow, death and moral -sin. Although the NT does assert the difference between God and the world and man, and the inferiority of the made to the Maker, it does not conceive creatureliness as itself evil, but expresses its limitation and impotence in the term flesh, For this aspect see articleFlesh. The articleSin deals with the third sense of the word evil. It is thus with physical evil alone that we are here concerned. Its existence in manifold forms is assumed by all the apostolic writers but generally it is with the sufferings of Christian believers, including persecution, that they are concerned, in order to encourage patience, offer comfort, or assure deliverance.

12 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Evil means wicked, depraved and immoral.

Desires means a feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen.

Common means occurring often or frequently.

Paul says do not be prideful and think that you cant fall into these temptations. These evil desires have been common to ALL men down through the ages. They are a trap they appear much more beautiful and promising than what they can ever deliver.

If you are struggling with any of these they are not unique to you you struggle with these because you are human BUT God is faithful. He provides a way of escape for those who are tempted by their evil desires.

For the Israelites who chose to give into their evil desires, God put them to death.

May we not take advantage of Gods grace and instead choose to put to death our evil desires. With Gods help we can have victory and freedom through Christ!
