Some applications
When we teach that people who practice sin must repent and obey God to be saved, some people say we are “playing God,” “putting ourselves in the place of God,” or “limiting the grace of God.” Yet those people sometimes say, “I just believe the grace of God will cover those people.”
The issue is: What does the Bible say? The only way to learn what God’s grace will or will not do is to know what the word says.
John 1:17 – Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. There is no conflict between grace and truth they work together.
How To Give Grace To Others: With Our Words
Our words are incredibly powerful and what we say to and about others can completely change their life, believe it or not.
In the bible, Proverbs 15:4 tells us that Gentle words bring life and health a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. In the book of Matthew, Jesus also reminds us that the words we speak to others are actually the overflow of our hearts.
People might not always remember what you say to them but they will remember how those words made them feel. So make it an intention to always leave someone feeling better than they were before they spoke to you.
I might never remember everyones names that I have met in my life, but I almost always remember those people who made me feel inadequate, unloved and unwanted.
When someone does something to hurt us, our human nature almost always wants to bite back and put that person in their place. God tells us to do otherwise. He asks us to turn the other cheek and to uplift even when it hurts because, in the end, you might be the only bible that person will ever read.
Strive to use your speech to encourage and uplift others.
Walking Willingly In Divine Grace Requires Strength
Both justification and sanctification refer to a change God is working in our hearts, minds, and souls making us into His image. We are becoming holy as He is holy through the work of Grace in our lives.
Its a beautiful transformation that requires our willing co-operation! We get stuck when we refuse His grace, refuse change, hold ourselves to too high a standard or wallow in guilt and shame over our mistakes.

The Holy Spirit Is The Spirit Of Grace
If the second definition of grace is that it is referring to the power and ability of God flowing and operating through us, these next two verses are now going to add something very interesting to all of this.
The power of God flowing through you is really the anointing of God. The anointing of God is the presence and power of God flowing and operating through you to accomplish whatever the Lord wants you to accomplish for Him.
However, when you cut a little further into the anointing, what it really is is the power of the Holy Spirit Himself operating through you.
The Bible tells us that Jesus was operating under the anointing of God when He embarked on His three and a half year miracle ministry before He went to the cross to die for all of our sins. But then a little further on in the Bible it tells us that Jesus was performing all of his miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit Himself.
The anointing of God is really the presence and power of the Holy Spirit Himself flowing and operating through you.
Now here is what these next two verses are going to give us. If the second definition of the word grace is referring to the power of God operating through us and the power of God is really the power of the Holy Spirit Himself operating through us is it possible that the Holy Spirit Himself may then be the Spirit of Gods grace? I believe the answer is yes and these next two verses will prove that point to you.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I had jury duty a couple of weeks ago. It was a real pain in the neck – I didn’t get to see Grace off to sleep away camp nor pick her up, I had to take off a full week of work, and I had to arrange childcare for Allie. Fortunately, my sister was able to step in for me, but I would have much rather not gone.
At any rate, I spent most of the week reading or writing in my journal, shut up in a large room with 250 other prospective jurors. No cell phones allowed.
Okay, so books aside, I did get selected for one jury, and the experience was absolutely terrifying and wonderfully encouraging at the same time.
The defendant was charged with fleeing police. According to the dash camera footage, he continued to drive for approximately 45 seconds after the police officer turned on his lights and siren, despite ample safe opportunities to pull over.
And, for that 45 second delay, he was pulled out of his vehicle in front of his family, arrested, and prosecuted.
45 seconds.
In the jury room, we wondered if there was more to the story. Were there drugs? Some outstanding warrant? Illegal immigrants in the vehicle? These details were not for us to know.

Grace Will Produce Generosity And Motivate Your Good Works
The gospel produces generosity in our lives if we allow it to produce generosity. Is the cross of Christ helping you to become gracious and selfless?
23. 2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.
24. 2 Corinthians 8:7-9 But just as you abound in everything, in faith and utterance and knowledge and in all earnestness and in the love we inspired in you, see that you abound in this gracious work also. I am not speaking this as a command, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity of your love also. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.
A General Examples Of Conditional Grace
People often confuse conditional blessings with merited blessings. Since we cannot earn forgiveness, they conclude there can be no conditions. They say it is a denial of grace to say one must do anything to receive forgiveness.
But the Bible contains many examples of people who received God’s blessings by grace, yet they had to meet conditions. Those who met the conditions received the blessings. Had they failed to meet the conditions, they would not receive the blessings. Nevertheless, meeting the conditions did not earn the blessing, so it was still a matter of grace.
The fall of Jericho – Joshua 6:1-20
V2 – God said He had given Jericho to Israel. Some say salvation is a gift, so we can do nothing to receive it . But Jericho was also a gift. Did they have to do anything to receive it?
Vv 3-5 – To receive the gift, the people had to march around the city once each day for six days and seven times on the seventh day, blow horns, and shout. When they did so, the walls fell.
Consider some questions:
* Was this a favor from God? Yes, it was His gift .
* Did marching, etc. earn the gift? No, marching does not merit the destruction of a walled city. This was unmerited favor – a blessing they did not earn – hence, they received it by grace.
* But were there conditions the people had to meet to receive the gift? Yes. Would they have received it if they had not met the conditions? No. Hence, conditional grace!
The cure of Naaman – 2 Kings 5:9-14
* Was this a favor from God? Yes.

The Grace We Give Ourselves Is Gods Grace
The Bible tells us how we should treat ourselves because of how God treats us. We can give ourselves grace because God gives us grace, which is kindness and forgiveness that we dont deserve.
We make mistakes, and we deliberately do things we know are wrong. The Bible calls this sin, and every sin is a sin against God Himself. As our judge, He can rightly punish us for our sin. But instead, through Christ, God chose to offer us forgiveness:
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. ~ Romans 3:23-24 NIV
Why did God decide to give us grace, when He could punish us for everything we do wrong? The answer is because He loves us:
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ~ Romans 5:8 NIV
This grace came at the cost of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, sacrificing His own life for us. We deserved punishment, but He took the punishment for us. Grace is a free gift offered to us by God! We simply have to receive it by believing in what Christ did for us.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faithand this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. ~ Ephesians 2:8 NIV
So we know that if weve put our faith in Christ, God has already forgiven our sins. He no longer condemns or punishes us for our mistakes or failures, because Christ took our punishment.This is what grace is.
What Is Mercy And Forgiveness
Mercy is forgiving the sinner and withholding the punishment that is justly deserved. Grace is heaping undeserved blessings upon the sinner. In salvation, God does not show one without the other. In Christ, the believer experiences both mercy and grace. But what is Gods grace and mercy?
But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ , and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus.
In His mercy He took the punishment for our sin, by His grace He extended it to undeserving us, and the blessings of His grace continue to flow through all eternity.

The Story Of Jesus And Barabbas
Lets take a look at Luke Chapter 23 starting on verse 15. This is one of the most jaw-dropping chapters in the Bible. Barabbas was a rebel, a violent murderer, and a known criminal among the people. Pontius Pilate found that Jesus was not guilty of any crime. He looked for a way to free Jesus. It was blasphemy! It was ludicrous! Jesus did nothing wrong. Jesus raised the dead, He delivered people, He fed the hungry, He healed the sick, He opened the eyes of the blind. The same people who were with Him in the beginning were chanting, Crucify, crucify Him.
Pilate declares Jesus innocence not once not twice, but three times. The mob of people had a choice of who they wanted to set free between Jesus and the wicked Barabbas. The mob screamed for Barabbas to be set free. Lets take a moment to think about what Barabbas does. He knows he is a criminal but he is set free by the guards. That is grace. That is unmerited favor. There is no mention of Barabbas being grateful and there is no mention of him thanking Jesus. There is no record of what happened to Barabbas, but there is a strong chance that he went on to live a perverted life even though Christ took his place.

The Grace Of God Was Upon Jesus Christ
If you want two great, perfect role models on who had properly walked with the grace of God upon their lives, and who had successfully accomplished all of their earthly missions that God wanted them to accomplish as a result of that divine grace, look no further than the apostle Paul and Jesus Christ Himself.
These first two verses will be on Jesus. These two verses specifically tell us that the grace of God was upon Jesus and that He was full of this grace. In other words, the power and favor of God was upon Jesus while He was walking down here on our earth in the flesh. Jesus performed all of His supernatural miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit operating through Him. He did not perform these miracles by His own divine power.
Just as Jesus had His Fathers divine grace upon Him to help Him carry out His earthly ministry, so too can we have the same type of divine grace of God upon us and our lives in order to help us carry out and complete all of our divine assignments for Him.
And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom and the grace of God was upon Him. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Now if God the Father was willing to have His grace rest upon His Son Jesus so that He could successfully carry out all of His earthly mission, will God the Father do the same thing for each born-again believer?
We Should Show Grace To Others Because God Demonstrates His Own Love For Us Each And Every Day
Each morning we wake up is a show of Gods grace. If youre able to drive to work in a car or have money to take the bus, those are displays of Gods grace and mercy.
The only way for us as Christians to be better each day, rather than bitter, is to extend the same grace to others that God extended to us through Jesus Christ.

Examples Of Mercy In The Bible
Adam and Eve
We first learn of Gods mercy in the story of Adam and Eve, when God covered their shame with the skins of a sacrificed animal .
Israels Mercy Seat
Then we learn of the mercy seat where God would meet with the priests on Israels behalf in Exodus 25:19-22. The Greek word for mercy seat, translated from the Old Testament, is hilasterionusually translated propitiation. We see this word in Romans 3:25. Christ became the once-and-for-all acceptable and wrath-satisfying sacrifice on our behalf.
Jesus Christ
In What Is the Mercy Seat?, Stephen Nichols wrote, God desires to meet with His people, and the blood of the spotless lamb is the only means by which that meeting is possible. The mercy seat of the Old Testament and the blood sprinkled upon it by the high priest, prefigured Christ to come. The mercy seat was as real as the cross to come. Christ is now our mercy seat.
Gods mercy never runs out. There is no empty on the mercy tank in heaven, wrote Dr. David Jeremiah in The Jeremiah Study Bible. God just waits for His people to demonstrate that we really mean business. When we come to Him in true repentance, His mercy will just overflow us like the waves of the sea, because He is rich in mercy.
