What Is Truth According To The Bible

If The Bible Is Truth It Has Authority

The Truth of the Bible / THE POWER OF THE BIBLE

Perhaps the greatest reason why people reject the Bible as absolute truth is that if the Bible is truth, it has authority over their lives. Unfortunately, the majority of people in todays society shy away from any mention of authority. They desire autonomy to make their own decision based on their version of truth.

More On What Is Truth

If there is such a thing as truth, then we should be able to find it. If truth cannot be known, then it probably doesnt exist. But, it does exist. For example, we know it is true that you are reading this.

Is there such a thing as something that is always true all the time? Yes, there is. For example, Something cannot bring itself into existence. This is an absolutely true statement. In order for something to bring itself into existence, it would have to exist in order to be able to perform an action. But if it already existed, then it isnt possible to bring itself into existence since it already exists. Likewise, if it does not exist, then it has no ability to perform any creative action since it didnt exist in the first place. Therefore, Something cannot bring itself into existence is an absolute truth.

The preceding example is a truth found in logic, but some truths are not logical by nature. It is true that I love my wife. This isnt logically provable via theorems and formulas and logic paradigms, but it is, nevertheless, true. Therefore, we can say that truth conforms and affirms reality and/or logic.

Christ Expresses The Truth Based On Mans Needs

As can be seen from these prophecies, because the stature of the people of that time was so low, during the Age of Grace the Lord Jesus didnt express too many truths or give us a way to resolve our satanic nature. Thus did the Lord prophesy that He would return, that He would express more and higher truths, and that He would perform the work of judgment beginning with Gods houseHe would judge and purify our corrupt dispositions through His actual work and words. Thats to say, in the last days God will express more truths than all those in the Bible to purify and change man, allowing us to completely escape from sin and finally enter Gods kingdom. Therefore, only by welcoming the Lord and gaining the truth God will bestow on us in the last days can we be purified and saved.

How Do We Know That The Bible Is Absolute Truth

Once a commonly regarded fact, the idea of absolute truth seems to be nearly extinct in our current society. Truth is commonly regarded as subjective, relative, or even non-existent in both religious and non-religious circles. Does absolute truth exist? What does absolute truth even mean?

Is the Bible absolute truth? We know that the Bible is absolute truth, the inspired word of God. In a world that devalues truth, we must stand firm on the absolute truth provided through Scripture. Upon this truth, we base our worldview and make decisions on how to move throughout our daily lives.

So, why is it so important to understand that the Bible is absolute truth? What about the popular argument that truth is subjective? In this post, we will take a closer look at how society views and defines truth. But, more importantly, we will look at how we know the Bible is the absolute truth.

It is important to educate yourself on why the existence of absolute truth is so important. In doing so, you will be able to defend your faith more effectively as you continue to grow in your pursuit of truth.

Because The Carnal Mind Is Enmity Against God

The word carnal has been mistakenly used to exclusively describe those who indulge in the most unnatural and brutish kinds of sin. But its application is actually much broader than that.

First, we need to establish a biblical definition of the term carnal mind. The phrase is made up primarily of two Greek words: sarkos for carnal and phronema for mind.

Sarkos comes from the root word sarx, which literally means flesh, and phronema has to do with a mind-set, perspective, outlook or disposition.

The Bible, then, says that the fleshly mindor the natural mind, the way you areis enmity against God.

The first truth expressed in Romans 8:7 is that the ordinary mind of a human being is inherently at odds with its Creator. Knowingly or unknowingly, it fights against Him. It opposeseven resentsHim.

One illustration of this antagonismalbeit on a smaller scalecan sometimes be seen in our relationships.

Have you ever felt compelled to confront friends you saw heading in the wrong direction? Maybe they were making bad health, financial or relationship decisions that you knew theyd come to bitterly regret later.

The ordinary mind of a human being is inherently at odds with its Creator. Knowingly or unknowingly, it fights against Him. It opposeseven resentsHim.Maybe, when confronted, they made excuses, said Heres what I think, or Heres how I look at it, and did a little verbal dance to avoid listening to the truth about their decisions.

Bible Verses About The Power Of Truth

The truth can be a funny thing. While not always valued by others, it is most certainly favored by God and our hopes of ensuring wholesome relationships. We may think we are clever enough to fool other people, God, or even ourselves, but little do we know of the ultimate consequences of our attempts to deceive reality. However painful or awkward the truth may be, it is “truly” our only opportunity to create harmony and receive God’s grace. The Bible reminds us of the power of truth quite frequently and we’d be wise to follow its advice. These Bible verses about the power of truth are just what I needed today.

Here are 20 Bible verses about the Power of Truth. May these scripture quotes help you to muster the courage to live honestly.

Lesson : To Tell The Truth

One of the greatest moral issues that we all struggle with is that of telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. The book, The Day that America Told the Truth, states that 91 percent of us lie regularly . Of the people interviewed, 92 percent said the main reason for their lying was to save face, and 98 percent said the reason they told lies was so as not to offend people .

Another survey of 20,000 middle- and high-schoolers indicated that 92 percent admitted to lying to their parents in the previous year, and 73 percent said that they told lies weekly. Despite these admissions, 91 percent of all respondents said they were satisfied with my own ethics and character . Their consciences were insensitive to their sin!

Lest you think, Well, these surveys were probably taken among pagans, pollster George Gallup indicts us when he says, church attendance makes little difference in peoples ethical views and behavior with respect to lying, cheating, pilferage, and not reporting theft .

We bend the truth in many ways. There is the half-truth. You sort of tell the truth, but not the whole truth. You tell your employer, I wasnt feeling well, which was sort of true. But, in reality, you were not so ill as to miss work. You just wanted to do something else. Or, there is the white lie, a supposedly innocent lie that doesnt hurt anyone. Yes, your new hairdo is beautiful! Thank you, I just love fruitcake!

Taylor: What Is Truth From A Biblical Perspective

Truth is getting a lot of attention these days. With this column, I want to write about truth from a biblical perspective. Websters dictionary defines truth as the true or actual state of a matter, conformity with fact or reality, a verified or indisputable fact.

In Johns gospel, the 14th chapter, Jesus is comforting His disciples. He has told them that He will be betrayed. He also tells them that He shall only be with them a little while longer. He also tells them that where He is going, they cannot come. All of this, of course, is Jesus preparing them for His death and crucifixion and His subsequent raising from the dead to be at the right hand of God the Father in Heaven.

As He is speaking to them Thomas said to Him, Lord we do not know where you are going, and how can we know the way? Jesus then said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

This is a powerful statement because Jesus is saying if you want to get to Heaven you must come through Me. In other words, believe in the Son of God and be saved. Jesus also said to Thomas, I am truth. How can Jesus be truth if truth is a thing and not a person. We know from Websters definition above that truth is a verified or indisputable fact not a person.

However, when we look at this from a biblical perspective, we have a better understanding why Jesus said, I am truth.

When Will I Find True Love

Many men and women would like to know who their soul mate or spouse will be. In other words, who will love us, really love us? Knowing this answer would make it easier to search for that person. But thats not how life works.

God normally doesnt predestine who we will marry. Instead, He wants people to prepare themselves for marriage. And we have to make good, informed choices about our relationships and marriage. Thankfully, the Bible has a lot to say about marriage. The following biblical articles can help:

Studying these traits also helps us to know what we have to work on to be the kind of person a godly man or woman will be looking for.

A Better And Higher Standard

Understanding the Bible

The Bible has a better and higher standard. It defines truth as being utterly reliable and enduring. The reason is simple: authentic, biblical truth is inextricably linked to the dependable, unchanging character of God. You can trust everything He says He never lies He always keeps His Word Hes faithful to all His promises.

King David calls the Lord, God of truth . And He most certainly is the source of truth in the modern sense of the word, since He cannot lie . But more than this, and the very reason for His truthfulness, is that Hes completely faithful and reliable in all He does and says. Its not simply because God is truthful, but because God is faithful and trustworthy in very nature that David is able to say with confidence:

Into Your hand I commit my spirit You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth (Psalm 31:5

Instead of God of truth here, the ESV, NIV, NLT, NRSV, and others have faithful God.22,23

As you listen to the Lias story, youll feel hope that you, too, can see real marriage transformation!

Truth According To The Bible

So what, then, does the Bible say about truth? It might surprise you that the question What is truth? is itself found in the pages of Scripture. When standing trial before the Roman governor Pilate, Jesus said to Pilate, For this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.8 Pilate responded by asking, What is truth?9

If only Pilate had known that the truth was standing before him, looking him in the eye.

Truth Is a Person

You see, the Bible teaches that truth isnt just an abstract idea or philosophical puzzle. Instead, truth is a personthe person of Jesus Christ, to be exact. Jesus said to his disciples, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.10 The Apostle John, reflecting on the whole of Jesus life, wrote, The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.11 In Jesus, the truth took on human nature.

But, for Christians, Jesus is far more than just a truthful person he is the truth incarnate. The Apostle Paul tells us that in Jesus, all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.14 So Jesus is the truth in human form because he is God in human form. In Jesus, the truth came to earth to confront our lies, transform our minds, heal our hearts, fill us with joy, and liberate us from slavery to deceit.

The Place Of Intelligence In Understanding Truth

What is HELL like according to the BIBLE | The TRUTH about HELL

As God created our human intelligence, he obviously intends us to use it. However, we have a problem. The Bible declares that though humans were created perfect, in a loving relationship with God, they abused the freedom they had been given and chose to live independently of God. One of the results of this fall is that our intelligence, and our ability to think dearly, has been affected. Paul puts it this way, They know about God, but they dont honor him or even thank him. Their thoughts are useless, and their stupid minds are in the dark .

In other words, when we reject the truth of God, one of the effects is that we become blind to further spiritual truth. Theologians used to talk about the total depravity of the human racenot meaning that we are incapable of any good, but that no part of our nature has been unaffected by our rebellion against God. That includes both our reasoning ability and our moral character. One is affected by the other. John declares, If we hate others, we are living and walking in the dark. We dont know where we are going, because we cant see in the dark . Conversely, one of the qualities of love is that it rejoices in the truth .

One of the reasons for the confusion that exists today, with so many conflicting ideas about the nature of truth and reality, has been the overemphasis over the last three hundred years on the ability of human reason to solve all our problems. Nicky Gumbel sums this up well in Searching Issues.
