The Creation Mandate Requires Motherhood
The creation mandate is the command of God for mankind to take dominion over the earth. We find this revealed in the beginning of the book of Genesis.
Genesis 1:2628, Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. 27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him male and female He created them. 28 God blessed them and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’
Alone, man cannot accomplish what God has decreed for them. Alone, men will fail in the creation mandate. It is necessary for women to exist and, therefore, motherhood as well, to provide offspring, so that is mankind spread throughout the world, it can properly, with reverential dominion, rule over the birds of the sky and the cattle of the earth.
To Provide Great Women Of God
Just as there are great men of God found in Scripture there are also great women. The first woman, the first mother, was Eve and so we can call her the mother of mankind. We see Rachel a matriarch and mother of Joseph, who was a slave in Egypt. There is Deborah, who was a righteous judge of Israel. We find Ruth the great, great grandmother of David. And of course, there is Mary, the mother of Jesus. This short paragraph is in no way sufficient to plumb the depths of the greatness of motherhood found in Scripture. But, it is obvious that women played a key role in redemptive history in Scripture.
What Does The Bible Say About Mothers
In addition to the labor of birth, attributes connected to motherhood are commonly seen as comforting, nurturing, gathering, and guiding. All these are an expression of the image of God.

There are many scriptures addressing fatherhood, but nowhere in the Bible does it instruct a woman on how to be a good mother. This is a curious thing considering being a mother was something expected of women in the Bible. So, what does the Bible say about mothers? Not a whole lot directly.
What we do find in the Bible about motherhood is how God mothers us, and many examples of women in their mothering role. Both have good things we can learn about mothers.

Mothers Make Families Orderly
They have an instinct for orderliness.
Boys can be messy.
Even dads can be messy.
Moms have a unique ability to enter chaos and restore order.
They restore order to relationships.
They restore order to homes.
They restore order to plans.
More than thatâmothers are what make relationships, homes, and plans what we could never make them, often without any credit.
Proverbs 14:1:
âThe wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.â

Bible Verses About Honoring Our Mothers

Is Abortion Wrong If The Life Of The Mother Or The Child Is In Danger
In view of what the Bible says about the life of an unborn child, a person would not be justified in having an abortion because of a potential health risk to mother or child.

Good Mothers Help And Teach Each Other
The world constantly pits women against one another. It paints us as petty status seekers in constant competition with one another. But, Gods word of truth sets us free from competition and instead places us in cooperation with other women. What does the Bible say about mothers? It says that we are to help and teach each other, to encourage each other with scripture, and to be the village that we so need in order to raise children who love the Lord.
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

Motherhood In Light Of Eternity
3 John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
As I write this Im staring on and off at my three children, their little faces, hands, and huge smiles radiate with joy when they catch me staring at them.
Their little eyes glitter, its almost like their little souls know they can trust me that I will care for them and theres no need to worry. They run up to me to show me their drawings and how they can do a cartwheel while Im holding our newest addition.
The hugs, the kisses, and the sweet drawings are just a few of the beautiful things we get to experience as mothers but its not what motherhood is about.
Motherhood is about Jesus. Its about raising disciples.
We are called to parent in light of eternity. Not in light of our short life here on earth.
Its so easy for us as mothers to forget that our children are souls that we are to mold to Christ. Our children are sinners in need of Christ too, regardless of what people may want to believe about their children. Just because we believe in God, it doesnt mean our children are saved. Salvation is so personal. It requires someone to introduce you to the gospel. It requires someone sharing Gods love and forgiveness. It requires investing in prayer. It requires fellowship, do you remember who shared the gospel with you? Do you recall the time they spent with you? Its all the same for our children, thats our focus. Raising disciples for eternity.
