Bible Verses About Pastors

It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do.An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money.

Do Not Speak Against Gods Servants: Gods Anger Will Be Kindle Against You

Speaking against a servant of God is speaking against God Himself and blaspheming the same God you claim to praise and worship. It is a sin.

Num 21:7: Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, we have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against you

Num 16:21, 24: Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. Get away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

Many are perishing because of Korahs rebellion which is speaking against the servants of God. Many are going to hell.

Jude 1:11: Woe unto them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

Woe to you for opening your mouth against a servant of God.

Why do you not fear God? Why do you not fear speaking against a servant of God?

Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?

An employee does what her/his employer instructs. A servant does what his/her master instructs. A servant of God does the will of God.

Many people speak against a servant of God because s/he is not doing according to their will. A Gods servant is a servant of God to do Gods will not humanity will.

Instead of speaking against a God servant, encourage and help her/him. S/he is in the forefront of spiritual battle for you. By helping a Gods servant you will see yourself winning battles. Aaron and Hur knew this principle.

Leadership is never easy, and it is made even harder when persons being led take pleasure in criticising every move that the leader makes.

This is even more disheartening in Christendom, where you have pastors working faithfully, making sacrifices and giving of their best and yet are met with criticism and sometimes even outright resistance from persons who should be building them up in their ministry.

It can be discouraging that those who they should be looking to for encouragement and support are often the very ones who turn on them and tear them apart.

Many church members take delight in finding fault with their pastor and see nothing wrong with it.

But do believers have the right to criticise their pastors?

Family and Religion asked Rev Garry Knowles of the Toll Gate Circuit of Baptist Churches, who shared an experience from his early years as a pastor.

He said that a colleague told him of a criticism one of his members voiced about his leadership. While it didnt bother him because of who shared it, he said it gave him food for thought as it was all hearsay, leading him to think that there might be others with whom the member was sharing who were afraid of confronting him.

He said that criticism, in general, is a sin, not just of the pastor.

Regarding the issue of disagreeing with or confronting leaders, he said that there are things to consider before doing so.

For Knowles, any good leader should discount or ignore people are saying criticisms.

Should Women Be Silent

We can now discuss one more New Testament verse that is sometimes used to restrict what women can do in church. This is also in Pauls letter to Corinth: As in all the churches of the saints, the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church .

Pauls instructions are good only for married women, because widows are unable to ask their husbands at home. And what about women who had unbelieving husbands? We do not have the complete picture here.

In chapter 14, Paul is dealing with the somewhat chaotic Corinthian church services, and women are not the only people he tells to be silent . People were interrupting each other, and more than one person was trying to talk at a time. Pauls instructions here would be needed if women were being unruly and asking their husbands questions during the church service. So Paul tells them to stop talking, and ask their questions later.

Paul does not say to what they should be submissive. The Law of Moses does not tell women to be submissive to their husbands . However, the Law does say that people are to be submissive to the word of God. The word of God was being preached in Corinth, but the women were talking and not being submissive.

I Will Never Leave You Nor Forsake You’

No! David said. Dont kill him. For who can remain innocent after attacking the LORDs anointed one?

DID YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT DAVID SAYS HE SPEAKS ABOUT SAUL WHO WAS ANOINTED KING OF ISRAEL, BUT WHEN HE DISOBEYED GODS WORD, GOD TOOK HIS HOLY SPIRIT FROM SAUL AND ANOINTS DAVID.

Though David know Saul is afflicted by evil spirit, he said these verses he did not think any evil against Saul ,because Saul was the LORDs anointed one

But nowadays many of us judge and speak against Gods servants

you could say that, some of the things that the pastor / evangelist / any servant of God does is a sin then what you must do is:

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. Matthew:7:1

If you can tell them privately, tell them, may be they could have done it unknowingly, so do not criticize them publicly

When Miriam and Aaron spoke evil against Moses God stood for Moses against Miriam and Aaron

Read this fully:

Numbers:12

1 Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite.2Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? they asked. Hasnt he also spoken through us? And the Lord heard this.

3 4 At once the Lord said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, Come out to the tent of meeting, all three of you. So the three of them went out.5 Then the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud he stood at the entrance to the tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When the two of them stepped forward,6 he said, Listen to my words:

Context For The Two Most Commonly Misused Verses

What the Bible says about homosexuality | Kristin Saylor & Jim O’Hanlon | TEDxEdgemontSchool

There are two verses in the New Testament often referenced when addressing the topic of women in leadership. These verses are used in the case against, and at first glance, it makes sense why they are used. But digging into context, theres more to the story.

1. The Misused Verse in 1 Corinthians

1 Corinthians 14:34-35The women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.

People will read this and use it as a case for women to be silent in the church. But in context, Paul wasnt just instructing women to be silent he was also calling for those who speak in tongues and those who prophesy to do so in an orderly fashion. We know those gifts arent wrong but rather what Paul was doing in this passage was giving instruction to orderly conduct within the assembly.

In context, there were some women who were being disrespectful within the church and asking questions that disrupted the orderly worship. So what Paul is actually calling out is the lack of order and not women speaking in church. We know he was an advocate for such roles because 1) Paul had already established the giftings of ministry roles to both genders in 1 Corinthians 12 and 1 Corinthians14:3-5, and 2) in 1 Corinthians 11:5 we see Paul mention women as participants in prayer and prophesy in the assembly.

Free Your Pastor From Things That Would Distract Him From Prayer And The Word

Acts 6:1-4

Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.

The Context Of The Verse

Advent Devotion December 1, 2016

1 Timothy is an open letter from the apostle Paul to Timothy, giving him some public instructions about what Timothy should do in Ephesus . Timothy would not be able to implement these instructions anywhere except in the church, so that is the focus of the letter and its instructions.

Paul is concerned about what people were teaching in Ephesus , and he urged that believers should pray for everyone, specifically the civil authorities . Paul then gives instructions about how the men should pray: I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling . What does Paul mean by in every place? Taken literally, it would mean that believers should travel throughout the city, to every building and open area, to pray. But we do not take those words literally.

Additionally, very few Christians believe that men must lift their hands when they pray. Paul may have meant for men to lift their hands, and that is what he said, but we do not take it literally. It was appropriate in his culture, but it is not necessary in ours.

Then Paul says that women should learn quietly, not teaching the men . But as we have just seen, we do not always take what Paul wrote literally. Therefore, when we come to verse 12, we have to choose: do we take it literally, or do we make allowance for cultural changes? How can we decide?

How God Has Used Women

One way to answer our question is to see how God has used women in the past, and we will see that God has not required women to be silent, even in a religious setting, and that he has sometimes allowed even appointed women to have authority over men.

An illustration of that is Deborah. Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time. She used to sit under the palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the people of Israel came up to her for judgment . She had political authority, and the people respected her decisions.

Deborah had religious authority, too in verses 6-9 she gave the Israelite general an authoritative message from God. Chapter 5 is her victory song her words have become part of the Bible, and men have been learning from Deborah ever since .

Some have suggested that God used Deborah because all the men were incompetent or unwilling. The Bible does not say that it just says that God was working through Deborah as a civil judge, as a spokesperson for God, and as a worship leader for his people.

Most leaders of Israel were men, but it takes only one example to show that it is not a universal principle. The Bible never says that Deborah is an exception to what would otherwise be a rule it just says that God worked through her. He is willing to put women in positions of authority.
