Founded on a faith-based mission, National Church Residences has grown from a flagship community, Bristol Village, in Waverly, Ohio, to become the nations largest non-profit provider of senior housing in the country. Today our organization owns and/or operates 340 senior housing communities in 25 states. And, we continue to add new communities and senior services every year.
In fact, there are 46,307 seniors who sleep each night under our rooftops or receive care and service through our senior housing communities, outreach programs or even in their own home. Our vision is to Advance better living for all seniors, enabling them to remain home for life and our 2,323 mission-driven staff members work every day to make this vision a reality.
We recognize that everyones journey is unique. Thats why we provide a wide array of housing options, ranging in service level from independent living apartments, duplexes and detached homes to assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing care. In addition, we offer home health and hospice in central and southern Ohio as well as adult day care in Columbus, Ohio. To help navigate the way, we are the largest provider of service coordinators in the country.

National Church Residences Housing Programs
While the focus of National Church Residences is on providing housing for senior citizens, some of their communities will also support other individuals. This can include formerly homeless individuals, the disabled, single parents, and families. In addition to the low income homes or apartments offered, the faith based charity organization will also offer a wide variety of supportive services to residents.
The organization operates in over 30 states , and they continue to slowly but steadily expand to other parts of the country. In fact, they are the nations leader when it comes to offering affordable, low income housing to the elderly and senior citizens.
Housing for the formerly homeless is in high demand. There is often a waiting list in many states. This is known as Supportive Housing for the Formerly Homeless. It can assist those from a wide range of backgrounds.
The charity and its locations work to offer clients safe, affordable, and stable permanent housing. It is combined with case management and other support. The goal is to help people gain stability and become strong, contributing members of their local communities.
They take a Housing First approach. Therefore both supportive services are offered along with safe, affordable housing to individuals. The goal is to meet each individual or families unique needs. Some components of this includes the following.

The National Church Residences University as an organization-wide internal training program that provides all employees with consistent training across the company in the areas of leadership, management and more. Its curriculum is designed to promote individual performance development in the core competencies for each position within the organization.

National Church Residences: The Power Of A Mission
Although not-for-profit National Church Residences has more than 340 communities in 25 states, its most enduring asset, the one that animates everything it does, is its faith-based mission. In 1961, the Rev. John R. Glenn the Presbyterian pastor of a small Ohio church, was deeply affected by the plight of older adults he encountered during his ministry. He was saddened to find that, all too often, they were lonely, excluded from the everyday joys of life, and humiliated because they were dependent on others.
Rather than simply bemoan their fate, Glenn acted. When FHA foreclosed on a campus of 400 unoccupied homes, Glenn saw a divinely inspired opportunity. He assembled a coalition of four local churches, placed the winning bid, and reimagined that subdivision as Bristol Village. Today, Bristol Village is a nationally recognized, 133-acre continuing care retirement community that has served tens of thousands of seniors over the decades.
Although were a nondenominational organization, we were founded on a Christian commitment to ensure that all seniors, including those of modest means, benefit from comfortable housing and high-quality care services, enabling them to age with dignity and respect, says Mark Ricketts, National Church Residences president and CEO. Being part of that is such a privilege for all of us as well as a source of competitive advantage.

National Church Residences Completes Sale Of Ocean View Senior Apartments To Bridge Housing
In 2000, National Church Residences acquired the 100-unit Ocean View at the request of the City of Pacifica, with the goal of sustaining the propertys affordability. For 15 years, National Church Residences delivered on that goal while providing high-quality property management and raising needed funds for roof replacement and other improvements. In recent times, National Church Residences had been pursuing a refinancing of Ocean View to repay two maturing loans and address capital needs.
We determined it was in the best interest of the Ocean View community to engage a mission-minded partner like ourselves with the local presence needed to execute new financing terms and oversee the rehabilitation, said Steve Bodkin, Chief Operating Officer, Housing, National Church Residences. The organization reached out to BRIDGE, a leading nonprofit developer, owner and manager of affordable housing headquartered in California.
All current residents will be able to remain in their units for the long term, and new deed restrictions have been placed on the property to ensure rent restrictions will continue for 55 years. Ocean View is affordable to seniors whose annual incomes range from approximately $14,928 to $84,500 , though 31 apartments will have additional subsidy provided by the Housing Authority of the County of San Mateo to serve people with lower incomes.
