Where Even Walmart Won’t Go: How Dollar General Took Over Rural America
As the chain opens stores at the rate of three a day across the US, often in the heart of food deserts, some see Dollar General as an admission that a town is failing
When Dollar General came to Haven, Kansas, it arrived making demands. The fastest-growing retailer in America wanted the taxpayers of the small, struggling Kansas town to pick up part of the tab for building one of its squat, barebones stores that more often resemble a warehouse than a neighbourhood shop.
Dollar General thought Havens council should give the company a $72,000 break on its utility bills, equivalent to the cost of running the towns library and swimming pool for a year, on the promise of jobs and tax revenues. The council blanched but ended up offering half of that amount to bring the low-price outlet to a town that already had a grocery store.
Dollar General are a force. Its hard to stop a train, said Mike Alfers, Havens then mayor who backed the move. Obviously theres been collateral damage. We didnt expect it. Im torn but, net-net, I still think it was a good move to bring them in.
The Dollar General opened in Haven at the end of February 2015. Three years later, the company applied to build a similar store in the neighbouring town of Buhler, a 20-minute drive along a ramrod straight road north through sprawling Kansas farmland.
We lasted three years and three days after Dollar General opened. Sales dropped and just kept dropping

For months, people have been approaching shoppers at stores across the Buffalo Niagara market, striking up conversations with them, then inviting them to Bible studies at their church to learn about a holy figure they call “God the Mother.”
The encounters at places like Wegmans and Walmart have prompted viral social media posts, frightened calls to police and wild rumors.
But if you ask members of the World Mission Society Church of God, they’ll tell you they’re simply devoted members of an Amherst church trying to share their faith.
And these days, they say, stores are where it’s easy to strike up a conversation.
Here and across the country, its members often proselytize in stores and shopping malls.
Teamwork As The Body Of Christ
There are many people on a team, but there is one group. There are many believers, but there is only one body of Christ.

Ive attended several different churches over the course of my life, and I can say that without question, every single church would willingly give away a Bible to anyone who asked for one. So, just ask!
To find a church near you, you can perform a simple Internet search for churches near me or use a website like Church Finder to search for churches across the country.
Church Finder also lists which denomination a particular church falls under, if applicable.
You can attend an upcoming service and ask afterward if there is a Bible you can take home, or just call and ask.

- Reading the Bible helps us to know God: The Bible tells us about God, gives us insight into Gods character and answers our questions about who he is, and how he has saved us from sin.
- The Bible helps us to know Gods will for our lives: The message of eternal salvation is vital to the scriptures, but the Bible also reveals a lot more about how God would have us live. We see recorded examples of Biblical figures and how they lived, and we see what pleases God and what doesnt.
- Reading Gods word helps us to see the big picture that God has planned for us: Knowing the scriptures and making them the final authority in your life can help you to live the good life that God has planned for you, and to guard against attacks that the evil one has coming your way.

Is Not Tithing A Sin
As we mentioned before, people who tithe are usually those who believe in the Bible. And tithing 10% specifically is biblical, but that doesnt mean you have to be a Christian to tithe. It also doesnt mean youre a bad Christian if you dont tithe. Because tithing isnt about the moneyits about the heart.

What Does The Bible Say About Teamwork
Teamwork is all around us in life. We see it in marriages, businesses, neighborhoods, churches, etc. God loves to see Christians working together submitting to His will. Think of Christianity as your local Walmart. There is one store, but there are many different departments within that store. One department can do things another cannot, but they still have the same goal.
In Christianity there is one body, but there are many different functions. God has blessed us all differently. Some people are preachers, givers, singers, advice givers, prayer warriors, etc.
Some people are bolder, wiser, more confident, and have stronger faith than others. We all have different abilities, but our main goal is God and the advancement of His Kingdom. We fill in for our brothers where they need assistance.
Ive heard of a time in street preaching when the person with less eloquence and wisdom had to evangelize instead of the wiser and more eloquent person. The reason for this is because the other person was too eloquent and too wise and no one could comprehend what he was saying.
Never think that there is nothing you can do within the body of Christ. Its amazing to see how God is using the body of Christ. Some people are missionaries, some are street preachers, some people are Christian bloggers, and some are advancing Gods Kingdom on YouTube and Instagram.
