How To Be Lead By The Holy Spirit

Pastor Greg Scott shares some wisdom on how to be led by the Holy Spirit. Its all too easy to talk ourselves into things or out of things when we let other voices distract us from the Spirit. This is why its important to understand how the Holy Spirit speaks. When the Spirit speaks, He speaks in the language of the Bible, and He will always point you back to Jesus.

Generosity Seeds Every Church Should Sow In 2022

How to grow generosity. Its a common theme among churches and the giving platforms that serve them. If there was an easy formula for growing generosity, however, someone would have found it by now. Sustained generosity certainly doesnt come from offering online giving. Or an annual sermon on tithing. And not even from the various fundraising or stewardship tactics churches attempt.

Gratitude And Trust In God

Gratitude and trust are two different things. It takes both to unleash a true spirit of extravagant generosity. Gratitude can start as an intentional practice that quickly bears fruit. But growing trust takes a lifetime. Its a two-steps-forward-three-steps-back kind of venture at the core of their spirituality. It should be an ongoing topic of discussion that giving, paradoxically, helps to grow trust.

Some churches address this trust issue around giving by inviting givers to participate in becoming Generosity Rockstars. This program seeks to grow giving through small, regular commitments. The givers beginning micro-goals provide an easy low barrier to start moving toward generous giving.

The Call To Compassion

Signs

There is no life of following Jesus apart from good works because whatever you worship you will become like. Good works are acts of compassion, generosity, and service. As a Christ-follower, you are gracious and compassionate to others because God has been gracious and compassionate to you. In Titus 2 and 3, Paul explains that you must be zealous, ready, and devoted to good works because God can and will use you to bless others.

Seeds Core Groups Attendees Ready To Get To Work

Chesapeake Conference core groups are eager to move forward with church-planting efforts despite the obstacles of the pandemic.

Representatives from current Chesapeake Conference church plants attended English and Spanish conferences of Seeds Core Groups on August 21 and 22 at the Ellicott City church. Sixty-four people attended the English conference on Sabbath and 50 more attended the Spanish conference on Sunday.

Seeds conferences are practical and mission-focused experiences developed by the North American Division Evangelism Institute to provide church-planting resources for local conferences. Seeds Core Groups focuses on equipping core groups at any stage of planting with a process and roadmap for their specific context.

Chesapeake Conference continues to partner with NADEI to host Seeds events for local churches every year as part of the conferences 35 by 25 initiative which aims to plant 35 new churches by the year 2025.

Through Seeds we equip and inspire those who have begun the steps to plant a church and inspire existing churches to consider planting a church in an unentered area, says David Klinedinst, evangelism and church growth director for Chesapeake Conference.

Neil Chelliah, pastor and church planter of the Living Water church plant in Potomac Conference, speaks to attendees.

Many Years Ago The Holy Spirit Planted A Seed In Our Hearts At The Beginning Of 2016 He Began To Water That Seed

There have been moments in our lives where we have felt the Holy Spirit leading us to take big steps. Often those big steps feel like giant leaps. Surely you have been there too, standing on the edge of what is and what could be, wondering if the risk will be worth it and wishing there was a “how-to” manual. Despite all the risk, we choose to simply trust and obey and take the leap into the unknown.

We let history be our guide and lean on the stories of old, like that of Abraham, who was called to leave his homeland to follow Gods blessing and plan. Abraham saw God prove himself faithful time and again through favorable and unfavorable circumstances. We have seen and can attest that God has and will continue to do the same for us.

Through a series of events, beginning in the summer of 2015, we began to ask ourselves if God was calling us to plant a church. Through constant prayer, seeking wisdom from others, and being encouraged to press on, we desired to hear Gods voice and be guided by His hand. We believe that God spoke clearly.

Mustard Seeds Of Hope

Today we celebrate our Fall Founders Fest after the worship service. We dont do a Homecoming Sunday here, because, well, you all were here through the summer, even if we are in smaller numbers physically present since the pandemic. The Homecoming, or Welcome Back Sunday, was from a time when people would go to a summer place, perhaps worshipping at a summer chapel, and would then return to their regular church in the Fall. But, those days are long ago for most people, and so instead, way back in 2016, we began a new type of celebration our Fall Founders Fest, which is on the first Sunday of October, because we were founded on October 4, 1858.

And so, I was thinking of the long journey of our church, all of that history, as I read the scriptures for this morning. The first reading from Lamentations begins with how lonely sits the city that once was full of people! The psalm begins this way By the waters of Babylon we sat down and wept, when we remembered you, O Zion. And in the gospel, the disciples asked Jesus to Increase our faith! and he told them they need only have faith the size of a mustard seed.

The scriptures today truly echo our own journey and that of the many years since 1858.

Yet even they knew, as we certainly know now post-pandemic, that the church is not the building, but is the faithful community of Christ gathered. And so, they did not lose faith they rebuilt.

And the church grew and prospered.

I am reminded of this little story.

Amen.

Insights From This Episode

1. Dont ignore the outward and inward signs necessary to embrace change

How do you know its time to make a change in your current role? What are the signs the time has come for someone else to take your place?

For Pastor Willie George, there were outward and inward realities he could not ignore. Outwardly, He witnessed God giving insight to leaders he wasnt receiving. He noticed staff and members were gravitating towards a new direction in church leadership. Inwardly, he was no longer as driven to plan for the future of the church and could feel himself letting go of the responsibility.

Did he still care for Church on the Move? Of course. What hadnt changed was his desire for the church to continue to grow and succeed. With all the stirring inside he knew God was preparing his heart to embrace the decision ahead of him.

2. Be faithful to your calling right where you are while waiting for whats next

In ministry, we must be disciplined in the act of submitting to Gods will and not driven by our own aspirations. Many times that means waiting and trusting for whats stirring within us until Hes ready. Find rest in the fact that if God has called you to be somewhere different, His hands will make it happen. Theres no reason for you to force the change all on your own. Get out of Gods way and let His plans come to you. And while you wait, be fully present where you are now remaining faithful there until youre called to whatever is next.

H6 Whatâs a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

H4 Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

H4 How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the “When inside of” nested selector system.

Great Resources For Free Church Media In 2022

We live in a visual culture. In our fast-moving world, peopleâs brains have been trained to size up an event, product, or experience with a quick scan. In the business world, itâs why product packaging and advertising is so important. In the influence economy, itâs why Instagram is so vital to messagingâeven if that messaging is predominately image-based.

As Christians who long to reach the lost and welcome brothers and sisters in Christ, we need to be concerned about what people see. Our imagery and branding communicates so much about who we are as Jesus followers.

The good news is there are lots of free resources out there offering more royalty-free images, graphics, and videos, many of which cater specifically to the needs of churches. Thatâs what weâve focused on in our list: sites that offer free media AND cater to local churches.

Hereâs a roundup of the best of the best.

Generosity Is A Result

Mustard Seed Canvas Prints

Think of it this way: The fruit of the Spirit reveal the Spirits work in us. Theyre not a to-do list. In the same way, generosity manifests as a result, too. It is caused by a series of effects. Our Year-End Giving Ask article listed 7 critical factors that influence generosity:

  • Gratitude + trust in God
  • Feeling appreciated

In that article, we focused only on the importance of ASKING for a gift and showing its impact.

But truthfully, other than the combo of gratitude and trust in God, no one factor moves the generosity needle on giving on its own. As you can see, the church cant control some of the factors. But they are things you can speak into.

If youre serious about truly fueling this important spiritual discipline in 2022, you must proactively address these topics:

The Confession Of Our Hope

Hope is a positive expectation of the future. People need hope. In fact, it’s necessary for human fluorishing. But Christian hope is different. Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. All other hope is shakeable and abstract, but Christian hope is specific, certain, and communal, rooted in the promises of God.
