What Does The Bible Says About Dealing With Hard Times | 2-Minute Devotions #13

This might be one of my favorite chapters in all the Bible, whether things are going well or not. Heres why. This chapter has what has been called the golden thread or chain of salvation which is in Romans 8:29-30 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. This gives us the knowledge that salvation is fully a work of God because it is God Who foreknew us, Who predestined us, Who called us, Who justified us, Who glorified usnotice it is all He Who has done these things in usnot we ourselves, thereby God receives all the glory. Doesnt He deserve it? He is the justifier Who justifies us.

This is what Paul means in Romans 3:26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. This is why There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus . This chapter:

  • gives us perspective on life
  • gives us reason to endure the present
  • gives us a clear conscience
  • shows us Who is responsible for our salvation and
  • shows us that we are conquerors but only in Christ .

The Faithful Teach Gods Word

Paul points out that Timothy knew his teaching . One of Pauls goals was to teach the whole purpose of God . He didnt avoid difficult texts, soften their tone, or change them to not offend the church or the culture. He preached the Word of God whether it was popular or unpopular. Paul soon warns Timothy of how many in the last days, instead of preaching the whole counsel of God, will itch peoples earstrying to make them feel good .

This faithful teaching doesnt only refer to public teaching but also private teaching. These godly models challenge us with Gods Word when were in sin. They encourage us with it when we are down, and they affirm us with it when we are doing right. We must follow these kinds of people we must become these kinds of people.

Bible Verses About Trials And Struggles

1 John 4:4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

When we keep our eyes on the one true God, we will prevail. When we focus on the world and speak worldly things, we are not of God, were serving other gods in that respect. Which will you choose? Joshua 24:15 speaks of serving other gods, when he says but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. I agree!

Psalm 27:1The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life of whom shall I be afraid?

Are you still afraid after reading all of these scriptures? Bow your head right now and pray for strength. Ask the Lord to comfort you in times of fear. Then let go and let God. Feel the peace that passes all understanding. Let that peace flow!

Romans 8:17-18And if children, then heirs heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Do you understand what that means? As a born again child of God, we are adopted into His family. God is our father and we are joint heirs with our Savior, Jesus Christ. How absolutely wonderful is that?

Strength In Christ Our Lord And Savior

As the verses above illustrate, were told to call on Jesus Christ, and that he will hear us and give us strength, hope and a grace sufficient to carry us through. He will be our ever present help when were in need, and he can give us a peace that passes all understanding. For me thats extremely encouraging.

Faith in Hard Times

In case you have been hiding in a cave, the world has gone a little crazy. If I werent living it, I wouldnt believe what we are all witnessing.

I think we all hoped that once midnight rang out on December 31, 2020, we would take a sigh of relief now that the year 2020 was behind us.

Unfortunately, things have not improved much.

If you are like me, you take your refuge in the Word of God. Im thankful that I can open Gods holy Word and find comfort and peace.

1. Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God

2. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

3. 1 Peter 5:7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

4. Philippians 4: 12-13 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

5. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.

7. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.

9. Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower The righteous run to it and are safe.

A week or so ago I put together a massive post with well over a hundred bible verses about money and talked about how we need to make sure that we always put God first in our lives before money and everything else.

We can easily allow money to become our master, and God can quickly move to the background if were not careful.

One thing that occurred to me in the midst of listing all those verses, however, is that I never really touched on a topic that seems to be especially important right now in the midst of a double dip recession when so many people are having a hard time. The idea of looking to God for strength in the midst of hard times.

Why Should We Trust God In Difficult Times

In general, we are living in some troubling times. I think we can all agree. But each of us struggles with our own personal issues, dont we? When you add it all up, life can get pretty complicated. So where do we turn?

For Christians, we should be trusting God in difficult times, yes. But we should also be trusting Him in all circumstances. Why? Well for starters, He is the Creator of all of mankind as well as this universe and everything in it.

More importantly, HE LOVES US! He is there for us. He is our Heavenly Father who loves every single one of us, whether you choose to believe it or not.

So today, lets first look at some of the promises of God as found in His Word, the Holy Bible, to prove that He is the ONLY choice that you really need to make, when youre wondering where to go, when you come to a bump in the road of life. Ill also share with you some Bible verses about trusting God in hard times as we go as well. Are you ready?

As Ive walked through hard times in my own life many of these Bible verses about strength have been a huge encouragement to me. Much like I did, youll likely see a common theme in among these verses. It isnt our strength that we need to rely on but the Lords strength. Drawing His strength not just during hard times but on a daily basis is the best way to walk through our days.

1 Chronicles 16:11

Look to the Lord and his strength seek his face always.

Psalm 68:35

You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!

Exodus 15:2

The Lord is my strength and my defense he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my fathers God, and I will exalt him.

Habakkuk 3:19

The Sovereign Lord is my strength he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Joshua 1:9

God Is Looking Forward To Spending Eternity With Us

For God so loved that world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16.

But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. Romans 6:22.

Faithful Practice What They Preach

Paul said Timothy knows his way of life . There are many who are orthodox in their doctrine but unorthodox with their lifethey dont practice what they preach. This visible hypocrisy only serves to push people away from God. Timothy was keenly aware of how Paul used his time, his recreation, his work life, his devotion, his prayer life, and his ministry. All of that was open before Timothy and all of it matched Pauls teaching. We must model these types of people to stand in terrible times.
