Is St Marks A Place For Children

Yes! Childcare is available for infants and children under the age of 2 on Sunday mornings and other select times. During worship, children ages 2 years old through 6th grade are invited to the front of the sanctuary for a Bible story or lesson and then are escorted to Sunday School. For children who prefer to remain in the sanctuary for worship, red activity books filled with crayons, coloring pages, word games and other fun stuff are available upon request from an usher.

Anba Kirillos Seniors Society

• Welcome all our parishioners who are 55 years and over.

• The activities include monthly spiritual meetings and lunch, midweek gatherings at the cathedral café, trips and outings within and outside Canada and online lessons to promote physical and cognitive health.

• Next monthly meeting will be on March 26 and there will be a bus trip the Coptic Convent in Paisley ON on April 2.

St Mark United Methodist Church

Saint Mark United Methodist Church is a United Methodist Church in midtown Atlanta, Georgia. The building was constructed between 1902 and 1903 by the congregation of Merritts Avenue Methodist Church after they outgrew their previous building. The architecture is notable for its use of Stone Mountain granite, triple entrance portal, and pot-metalstained-glass windows. The building is one of the few Gothic Revival granite churches in Atlanta.

A Little Bit About The Story Of Our Church

1881: a small group of people began to worship under the lamp in the centre of the roundabout by the railway station.

1891: They raised enough to build the small church, which is still standing on Gloucester Road, closer to the shops and railway station.

1911: having outgrown the original building, further fund-raising resulted in the current building. Following a devasting fire in 1944, the church family rallied and after 5 years of restoration work, reopened St Mark’s in 1949.

2006: after a massive fund raising effort by the congregation, the interior of the church was completely redesigned to accommodate all aspects of modern worship.

2012: saw the refurbishment of the church rooms & modernisation of the kitchen to serve the modern mission of today

Rev. Alan H. Jones

Pastor Alan became the Pastor at St. Marks in July of 2011. Previously he served in pastoral capacities in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Sierra Leone and London with cross-cultural and cross-racial appointments.

Pastor Alan has worked as a seminary teacher and an urban ministry director. He has an extensive history devoted to building interfaith connections and has provided leadership to numerous social justice activities and coalitions.

He was born in Halifax an industrial town in the North of England.

Pastor Alan attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Wales, a Masters degree in Theology and Religious Studies from Cambridge and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Claremont School of Theology.

He attained specialized training in psychotherapy as well as marriage and family therapy.

Pastor Alan is married to Linda Pickens-Jones a retired United Methodist Minister. They are parents to two grown children, Daniel and Emily.

His personal interests include singing, playing the piano and hiking.

His preferred drink is an old fashioned cuppa British tea but will resort to non-fat, no-foam latte when a java fix is in order.

How Does St Marks Engage Youth And Young People

Special activities are coordinated to stimulate spiritual growth and development for youth and young adults. Sunday School, group outings, potlucks, youth group Sunday evening functions and many other activities are provided under the leadership of the Youth and Young Adults Ministries Director and under the moniker of YOU Ministries.
