What Does The Bible Say About Resentment

Divorce, Remarriage, & Adultery | What Does the Bible Say?

Resentment has no place in a Christians heart. This can cause anger, bitterness, jealousy, and resentment to grow in our hearts. What the Bible does tell us is to let go of any resentful feelings towards others.

Resentment is defined as a feeling of anger or displeasure about someone or something unfair. Most people have struggled with feelings of resentment at some point in their life. The Bible talks about resentment in many places over the course of the Old Testament and the New Testament. Throughout the Bible, resentment is never painted in a good light.

Forgiveness And A Nonexistent Sin

Bradley S. Corbin, Bahai faith teacher

Infidelity has two meanings: one being unfaithful to a spouse or sexual partner, the other disbelief in a religion.

The Bahai Faith condemns infidelity in marriage, but this sin may be forgiven. Should anyone be afflicted by a sin, it behoveth him to repent thereof and return unto his Lord. He, verily, granteth forgiveness unto whomsoever He willeth, and none may question that which is pleaseth Him to ordain. He is, in truth, the Ever-Forgiving, the Almighty, the All-Praised .

All religious teachings of the past have divided the human world into two parts: people of the Book of God, or the pure tree and the other people of infidelity and error, or the evil tree. Bahá’u’lláh removed this division by proclaiming the oneness of the world of humanity this principle is specialized in His teachings. This principle removes infidelity in religion therefore there is no sin to be forgiven.

What Is Gods Punishment For Adultery

Leviticus 20:10 subsequently prescribes capital punishment for adultery, but refers to adultery between a man and a married woman: And the man that committeth adultery with another mans wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbours wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

What Does This Mean

Pin on Adultery

Forgiving means you are intentionally choosing to get the situation over to God and that you are forgiving them as the Lord forgave you. We do not deserve Gods forgiveness, yet He still extends it to us by placing faith in Jesus. In the same way, many people in our lives may not deserve forgiveness, but we still have to forgive them.

Even if they do not ask for our forgiveness, we still need to forgive them as the Lord forgave us . When we choose to intentionally forgive a person, bitterness, anger, and resentment will begin to loosen their grip on our hearts. The Lord can help you let go of these feelings and replace them with love, care, and compassion.

The Bible promises us that if we submit ourselves to God, the devil will flee from us . Satan wants us to grow angry, bitter, and resentful toward others, so he will fuel our hatred and hostility. If we choose to submit our feelings to God and ask Him for His help, God will help us and strengthen us .

The world pushes for the idea that resentment is normal and fine to have, but it is not. Think about all the songs, films, and other works of the world that glorify resentment. The Bible tells us resentment is not good and will only end in sin.

Choose today to remove resentment and bitterness from your heart. If we are honest with ourselves, holding resentment toward others only makes us feel worse.

The Significance Of Gomers Children

We cannot know who Gomer was without discussing her children. Scripture tells us she had three children. Those children are Jezreel, Lo Ruhamah, and Lo Ammi. Each of these names hold a significant meaning that continues to show the awesomeness of God.

Jezreel is a name that means God sows or God scatters. This is a reference to the judgement God will bring upon His people. The name also refers to the famous Valley of Jezreel. In this valley blood was shed as Jehu slaughtered the royal family in 2 Kings 10-11. Just the mention of the name Jezreel should remind the Israelites of how they rose to power and how quickly they can fall from grace.

Gomers second child was a girl named Lo Ruhamah, which means not loved or pitied. The name is a symbol that God will no longer love His people. He will no longer forgive them and in 722 B.C the destruction of Israel happens with the invasion of the Assyrians.

Hosea and Gomers third child has the most interesting name. Lo Ammi means not my people. This name refers to the covenant God made with His people. God repeatedly says, I will be your God you will be my people. The name given to Gomers third child is an indication that the covenant between God and Israel will be shattered.

The Israelites would have known what these names meant. They would have known that Gomer was unfaithful to Hosea. The question remains would they take heed and change their ways?

Faithful To Our Promises

Lauri Anne Reinhart, director of lay ministry formation leadership, Roman Catholic Diocese of Reno

We believe that all sins are forgivable by God all of our sins. But has the person who has committed infidelity repented of their behavior and committed to not repeating it? Or does their asking for forgiveness from God come with conditions? Ill change if Complacency is also wrong: God has to forgive me

Another word for infidelity is adultery adultery is the opposite of moral goodness and it is so important that it is the sixth of the Ten Commandments. Adultery damages ones relationship with God as well as with the person to whom you promised to be faithful.

Moral behavior is one way we witness to the God we believe in. Faithfulness to another mirrors our belief that God is faithful to us. Jesus promises to be with us always and he will be faithful to His promise. As believers we strive to be faithful to ours.

What Does This Story Teach Us About The Gospel

The story of Gomer is one with a powerful message to the Israelites of her day and to Christians today.

She personified the actions of the Israelites. They would continue this cycle of repentance, redemption, and restoration. God was their husband, and they were committing adultery with the worship of idols. Idolatry is a spiritual form of prostitution. In our relationship with Christ, we must be faithful. We must keep Him at the center of everything we do.

God desperately wanted a relationship with His people. He wanted to bless the Israelites and give them a life full of joy. They were so stricken with sin that their vision became blurry. Sin took them to a place where God said repent or face my wrath. Sin can take us to that same place today, but we have the promise that restoration is possible.

The beautiful part of Gomers story is that she affirms that no one is beyond forgiveness and restoration. Hosea buys his wife back and tells her she can live with him. He chooses to love her regardless of what she has done.

God sent His son to save each of us. No matter how bad we think we have acted or what sins we have committed, we can still receive the gift of salvation.

To Divorce Or Not To Divorce

So how are we to know if we should seek out divorce, or choose reconciliation? How do we know how to deal with infidelity Biblically in our own, individual situations?

I believe the answer has everything to do with repentance. Look at what God said to Israel after He divorced her:

Jeremiah 3:12-13 Therefore, go and give this message to Israel. This is what the Lord says:O Israel, my faithless people, come home to me again, for I am merciful. I will not be angry with you forever. Only acknowledge your guilt. Admit that you rebelled against the Lord your God and committed adultery against Him by worshiping idols under every green tree. Confess that you refused to listen to my voice. I, the Lord, have spoken!

God was willing to reconcile Himself to Israel if she would only repent and turn back to Him. If we want to know how to deal with infidelity Biblically, I believe well do the same.

Yes, to reconcile after infidelity is an act of grace, but our God lavishes grace upon us every day, and as His people, we are called to live gracious lives.

If there is true, genuine, and complete repentance on the part of the betrayer, God can restore what has been broken. A new covenant can be made. If, however, there is no repentance, then I believe 1 Corinthians 5 tells us what we must do.

What Does Bible Say About Secrecy

What God Has To Say About Cheating.

It says, Do not take part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.. For it is shameful to even mention what such people do secretly, but the light reveals everything they do. St. Paul uses the metaphor of darkness to describe privacy, which is the primary metaphor for evil in the Bible.
