What The Bible Says About Hate

Examples Of Hate In The Bible

Does God hate

25. Genesis 37:3-5 Jacob loved Joseph more than any of his other children because Joseph had been born to him in his old age. So one day Jacob had a special gift made for Josepha beautiful robe. But his brothers hated Joseph because their father loved him more than the rest of them. They couldnt say a kind word to him. One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever.

Should I Hate My Parents Really That Seems A Little Unjust

I read one of your articles, and it said,

26If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. 27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?

Matthew 14:26-28

But, in the Bible, it also says to love one another and respect your parents. So, should I hate my parents? Or love them?

Processing Feelings Of Hate

Hatred can be described as the “root of bitterness” , and we need to avoid dwelling on those hateful feelings. Jesus says that if anyone hates a fellow disciple, they will be placed under judgment . But sometimes anger and hate flares up, doesn’t it? Sometimes it’s difficult to get past it, especially in the moment. We don’t always have control over those emotional flare ups, but what we DO have control over is our response to those feelings.

We can choose not to dwell on the hate. Choose not to keep playing offenses over and over in our heads. Choose to love one another and to be reconciled . Where there is love, hate tends to dissolve. And, with love, comes forgiveness. Mark 11:25 encourages us to forgive others when we pray so God can help us with our feelings of hate and hurt.

God knows what’s in our hearts. When we hold onto bitter resentment and hate toward others, we are violating God’s command for us to love one another. Hate is an ugly thing that can lead to vengeful actions and ultimately create wounds in our own hearts.

Even if someone is mean or hurtful or just doing dumb things that make life harder, we must work on forgiving themjust as the Lord forgave us . That doesn’t mean it’ll be automatic or easy, but learning to release hatred is something we ought to work toward.

Definition Of Hate In The Bible

Hate is a strong word that should never be used. The only time that we should hate on our Christian walk of faith is when it comes to sin. We should always hate sin and evil and continually be at war with them. We should be at war with the sin of hating others.

We must walk by the Spirit and ask the Holy Spirit to help us with any anger or resentment we might have towards others.

We must not dwell on the negative, which only makes matters worse. We must seek reconciliation and be able to forgive.

Holding a grudge is basically holding hatred in your heart and God makes it clear, if you wont forgive others, He wont forgive you.

The person who stores hate in their heart for someone is walking in darkness.

If you say youre a Christian yet you hate someone, Scripture says that youre a liar.

What Does the Bible Say About Hatred?

In the Old Testament, the Israelites were Gods chosen people. Through Abrahams lineage, God established a new nation. A nation that God protected and guided. The Jewish people were given laws and commands that, as Gods people, they were instructed to obey for their own good. They were invited to follow God not only in action, but also in heart by having faith in a God that loved them and took care of them as a father.

The Israelites were Gods chosen people, but Gods love and care was extended to every nation. God doesnt prefer one ethnicity or nation over another. For instance, God instructed Jonah to go to Nineveh and preach repentance so that the people there would be saved from destruction. There are also instances of converts in the Old Testament, those who were not Jewish who chose to follow God, such as Ruth or Zipporah.

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus .

God has always had open arms to the whole world. In Pauls writing to the church of Galatia, we are challenged to consider how Jesus unites all of us as brothers and sisters, regardless of ethnicity or nation. God breathes life into every human being and everyone is fearfully and wonderfully made.

Overcome Evil With Good

In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry and do not give the devil a foothold. He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Let your gentleness be evident to all.

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

Religion In The Bible

Millions of people around the globe consider the Bible an authoritative guidebook on how to live a godly, righteous life. So how does the Bible understand religion? What does it say?

The answer isnt as cut-and-dried as we might like to think. The Bible itself is neither wholly positive nor entirely negative about religion. After all, at the most basic level, a religion is a set of deeply held personal or institutional beliefs or principles. Theres nothing wrong with that, in and of itself. In fact, by that definition, every human being on earth is deeply religious.

But the issue is not whether we have deeply held beliefs and practicesthe issue is to whom those beliefs are devoted. To better understand this, lets turn to the book of Romans in the Bible.

A bit of context: the Apostle Paul opens this letter by sharing how he constantly gives thanks to God that the gospel is at work in the lives of the Christians in Rome. He wants to visit them and to strengthen their faith in fact, he says he is eager to go and preach the gospel to them.4 He is not ashamed of the gospel, he tells them, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.5

Clearly Paul is passionate about the gospel, which leads him to write the most exhaustive theological treatise on the work of Christ found anywhere in the Bible. And he begins with the bad news about humanity:

And yet we know this is not always the case.

Bible Verses & 5 Steps To Overcoming Anger And Resentment

What does the Bible say about hate?

Concrete steps make sense to me. Give me a numbered list, and I’m a happy camper. So I created a numbered list for you.

Following the steps isn’t as easy as 1-2-3. The steps are where the real work lies. I am praying that you are challenged by these steps, and that you find a way to get through them all.

  • Control your temper.
  • When people mistreat us and there’s nothing we can do about it, we get mad. It isn’t fair. Parents see it in their young children who are constantly on the lookout to make sure everything is fair.

The gut reaction to get upset in the face of unfairness never really goes away. God’s Word says that we are to control our tempers, even in the face of unfairness.

Sensible people control their temper they earn respect by overlooking wrongs. -Proverbs 19:11

Earn respect. What if the respect of men isn’t what you’re after?

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. -James 1:19-20

The righteousness God desires. Ouch. We may be able to brush off the respect of men, but the righteousness of God doesn’t go away so easily.

Do to others as you would like them to do to you. -Luke 6:31

When we overlook wrongs, we treat others the way we want to be treated. But what if the wrong is something really big? What if we can’t just get over it?

    What next?

Being upset isn’t a sin, but being controlled by your feelings is.

The Servant Fails To Heed Gods Commandment Of Loving Others

But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins. He grabbed him and began to choke him.

Pay back what you owe me! he demanded. His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, Be patient with me, and I will pay it back. But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt.

When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened. Then the master called the servant in. You wicked servant, he said, I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to.Shouldnt you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?

In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.

This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.
