What The Bible Says About Love

Love Is Active It Requires Action

What does the Bible say about Love?

And Jesus said to him, You go, and do likewise.

I realize that the whole love is a verb thing is cliché. That doesnt make it any less true. Gods Word cannot be any clearer on the subject. Jesus instructs us to take action. In responding to the question of how to love a neighbor, Jesus gives us the parable of the good Samaritan. You cant be like the good Samaritan by saying I love you or posting Bible verses on social media. It requires getting your hands dirty, so to speak, and physically meeting needs when you see them. Dont talk about it, be about it. “Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

Inspiring Bible Verses About Love And Marriage

The Bible is full of teaching on love and marriage.

But we know love can sometimes be complicated.

God knows and understands this, which is why he speaks about loveâs many responsibilities, kinds, and benefits.

Here, we are going to investigate Bible verses about love, where it comes from, how it blesses us, and Bible verses about marriage.

Gods Love Is Powerful

Gods love is powerful and casts out fear.

Colossians 3:14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

How great is Gods love for us that He sent His only son Jesus, to pay for the sins of mankind, he came to save us all, and paid a heavy price with your precious blood. Alberlin Torres

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

I John 4:18 There is no fear in love but perfect love casts out fear because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

Goodness And Love All My Days

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 23 is one of the most famous passages in Scriptureand with good reason. It’s a beautiful meditation on God’s faithfulness. After recounting the ways that God has cared for and guided him, David closes with the conviction that God’s love and goodness will always be with him.

It’s essential to note that David was not always known for his faithfulness to God. His story includes disappointing accounts of disobedience and rebellion. And even though he experienced the consequences for his sinful behavior, he was never abandoned by God’s goodness and love.

In a nutshell, this is the entire Old Testament story. The infidelity of God’s people contrasted with Gods faithfulness. And even though Israel brought a lot of suffering down upon herself for her disloyalty, God continued to pursue and woo her.

In his letter to Timothy, Paul communicates this truth concisely: “if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself” . Thank God that His goodness and love are steadfasteven as ours wavers.

One Bible verse will probably go down as the undisputed heavyweight scripture champion of the world.

Long before YouTube, memes, or even email, John 3:16 went viral at sporting events.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

I sometimes wonder if John knew when he penned that iconic verse that he had a collection of words that would transform nations and generations.

The verse is quite simple yet extremely profound.

We can never go wrong when discussing the love of God.

In this post, I am going to share as many scriptures on love as possible. The hope is that by examining the truth of Gods undying love, we can bask in the glow found in the hope and strength He gives us, and build a solid foundation for our relationship with Christ.

And hope does not put us to shame, because Gods love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.Romans 5:5

Love Isnt Optional In The Life Of A Follower Of Christ

And he said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.

Anybody in charge can make up rules. Commandments are divine they are handed down by God, not man, and they should be treated as such. Jesus makes it clear in this passage that love is what is required from us. We are to love God and love each other, which is easy in concept, but much harder in practice. Love isnt a suggestion, but a requirement.

God Calls You His Child

See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world dont recognize that we are Gods children because they dont know Him.

You are a child of God. You may have heard this phrase many times before, but take some time to let it sink in. God, your Father, calls you His child.

When you begin a relationship with God, you dont just become Gods friend, you become His child. God delights in you and wants the best for you. He wants to fill your life with joy and blessings.

Even When Things Seem Hopeless You Can Hope In God Because He Loves You

I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness His mercies begin afresh each morning.

Even if you are in the midst of a difficult time or are grieving a great loss, there is still reason for hope. Everything around you may feel like its falling apart. Everything inside of you may feel like its falling apart. But Gods love and mercy will never fail you.

Ask God to give you hope because of His never-ending love. Ask Him to fill you with His peace that is more powerful than all of the hard things in your life. Every day is a new opportunity to receive Gods mercy and love.

We Have The Ability To Love Because Of God

What does the Bible say about Love?

We love because he first loved us.

We wouldnt know what love is if it wasnt for God. He showed us in that He loved us so much, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Most of us learn from experience. We learn good or bad about , parenting, work and faith from witnessing it from our parents. We experience the love of God by accepting His free gift of love, mercy and forgiveness. That gives us the ability to extend the same love to others.

Bible Verses About Love And Marriage

Here are a few Bible verses on marriage for your consideration.

Proverbs 31:10-12 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.

I Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Before anybody can even come to understand or even show love to another person in a relationship is to know that God is love, which is the ultimate key to unlocks all other love. John Franks

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

Song of Solomon 8:6-7 Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm for love is as strong as death, its jealousyunyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of ones house for love, it would be utterly scorned.

Romans 12:10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Love Is A Sign Of Maturity

When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

I think about immaturity a lot as a parent. I think my kids are old enough to act a certain way, but sometimes, they remind me of their immaturity. Sometimes, Im reminded of my own immaturity in how I respond to them. I used to think of this part of 1 Corinthians 13 as out of place in a passage about love. Why are these verses about maturity thrown into a chapter about love? Easy if love doesnt come natural, or if love is hard for us, we are immature.

No one wants to be called immature, but think about it. As kids, we focus entirely on our own needs. As adults, we are required to shift our focus. We become parents ourselves or we have to take care of our own parents. We have responsibilities to care for others, in addition to ourselves. Its a part of growing up. Paul reminds us that love for others shows our maturity.

For God So Loved The World

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

In one of the Bible’s most well-known verses, Jesus lays out the gospel message clearly for a Pharisee named Nicodemus. Jesus’s whole mission on earth served as a sign of God’s incredible love for humanity.

But it’s not Gods love that would have surprised Nicodemus. It’s Gods love for the whole world that he would have struggled to wrap his mind around. God’s love wasn’t centered on Israel. And because of this amazing love, anyoneJew, Greek, Roman, Samaritanwho believed in Christ would experience eternal life.

God Loves You So Much That He Sacrificed His Son For You

For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.

Its hard to understand if youre not a parent, but the love parents feel for their children is possibly the deepest love one human can have for another. If you talk to any loving parents, they probably cannot imagine any reason they would willingly let their child die.

They would much rather die than let their child die, because their childs life is so much more important to them than their own lives.

But God loves you so much that He was willing to let His Son come to earth, be mistreated, and ultimately die for your sins so that you could become His child too. That is love thats beyond understanding.

Bible Verses About Loving Your Enemies

The idea of loving and forgiving our enemies sounds completely ridiculous at times. It is our human nature to want to defend ourselves and fight back. However, if we are called to be like Jesus, we are called to forgive those who hurt us. Loving your enemy is less about reconciling a relationship and more about the condition of your heart! Here is a collection of Scriptures about love that will bring you peace and encourage forgiveness for those who trespass against us.

But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.” –Luke 6:27-31

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. – Luke 6:35

On the contrary: If your enemy is hungry, feed him if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:20-21

Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs. – Proverbs 10:12

What Does The Bible really Say About Love

What does the good book have to say about everyone’s favorite subject at this time of the year — love? Describing a biblical view of love turns out to be no simple matter. First off, the Bible was written in both Hebrew and Greek, and each of these languages has multiple words that we translate as “love.”

There are also understandings of love floating around among different authors. So what the author of the Song of Solomon says about love isn’t the same as what the author of Genesis say, which isn’t the same as what John says, which isn’t the same as Paul … and so on. All of which means that not only is there no single view of love in the Bible but any larger scheme you propose by which to organize these various treatises on love will inevitably fall short.

Nevertheless it may still be a useful, if far from perfect, endeavor. To get at it, I’ll borrow the classic formula that distinguishes between three Greek words: eros, romantic, passionate love, from which we get our word “erotic” phileo, the love of great friends and siblings, from which we get “Philadelphia,” the “city of brotherly love” and agape, parental, self-sacrificing love that seeks only the welfare of the other. All three kinds of love are represented in the Bible, which means that all three are considered to be created and blessed by God.

What Does the Bible Say about Love?

Love is something we have marveled about since the beginning of time. It has been the subject of countless songs, poems, sonnets and books over the course of history. Hundreds of movies use it as their theme. And, yet, expertise in the subject still seems to evade us. In many ways, weve simply lost that loving feeling. Spend a few minutes on Twitter or Facebook today, and Im sure youll agree. Its as if weve forgotten what love is, what it isnt, and how we are supposed to do it. Love is simply another one of those things God created that we have managed to screw up.

What happened? If God is love, we were created in His image to exemplify love to each other, and love is everlasting just how did we get so far off track? For many of us, weve simply lost sight of what the Bible reveals to us about love. The Bible has a lot to say about it, but here are 10 things we can be reminded of about love from the Bible and how to live in response.

God Will Not Let You Down Because His Love Cannot Fail

Your unfailing love, O LORD, is as vast as the heavens your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, Your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O LORD. How precious is Your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of Your wings.

You have probably been hurt or betrayed by someone you love at some point in your life. Maybe you have experienced this more than once. Loving and trusting other people is risky. Once one person hurts you, it becomes harder to open up to others.

In contrast, Gods love is truly unconditional. He never fails you or betrays you. You do not need to hold back in your relationship with God, because He is totally trustworthy.

When you feel let down by people, read these verses and remember this: Though people may let you down, God never will.
