What The Bible Says About Pain And Healing

There May Be Questions To Ask Yourself

“Dealing With Grief” with Tom Holladay

Its important not to question people or beat them up over a perceived lack of faith. Only God knows the human heart, and He is the righteous Judge .

But regarding healing, Christians might ask themselves some questions:

– Do I have courage to ask God for healing in faith?

– Do I have the kind of pleasing faith that honors God?

– Do I believe God wont answer me?

– Am I afraid Ill make God look bad if healing doesnt come?

– Am I afraid of my image and reputationdo I think I might look unspiritual if nothing changes?

The key to greater faith is intimacy with God, rooted and grounded in Christ . Its not about personal reputation.

How Do I Ask God For Emotional Healing

Ask and it will be given to you seek and you will find knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives the one who seeks finds and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. ~ Matthew 7:7-8 NIV

He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness by his wounds you have been healed. ~ 1 Peter 2:24 NIV

After studying Bible verses about emotional pain and healing, we begin to understand who God is. God is a refuge and a shelter. He is our redeemer and deliverer. In Christ, we can securely ask God for emotional healing.

How do I ask God for emotional healing? Matthew says to ask, seek and knock. We must begin asking God for emotional healing by seeking God and asking Him to come into the pain. This means that we must be honest with God and tell Him about our pain. God is interested in every wound and trauma that we carry, and it is by Jesus wounds that we have been healed.

Jesus is holy and righteous. He is a healer and redeemer. He comes to heal what has happened and to redeem the pain you continue to carry.

Matthew 7:7-8 is an invitation for you to access God through Jesus Christ. As you receive this invitation and enter Gods presence through the Holy Spirit and Jesus work on the cross, it is your turn to extend an invitation to Jesus. Give Jesus access to your heart by telling him about your pain and inviting him into the pain.

Bible Verse About The Pain That Leads To Repentance

24. 2 Corinthians 7:8-9

Even if I caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it. Though I did regret itI see that my letter hurt you, but only for a little whileyet now.

I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us.

Jesus Healing The Sick And The Disciples Doing The Same

There are 41 verses in the bible where Jesus healed someone and not ONE verse where Jesus sent away someone without healing. I challenge you to find one. And Jesus commanded his disciples to do the same.

Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received freely give.

~ Matthew 10:8 NIV

A footnote here: The Greek word traditionally translated leprosy was used for various diseases affecting the skin. Yet Modern Christianity preaches that Healing is not Gods plan for everyone. In this sermon, I want to assure you that this theology that God doesnt heal everyone is from the pit of hell. A spirit of anti-Christ, a spirit that goes against the very heart, actions, and commands of Jesus.

So let us begin, right to the scriptures.

The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness,But who can bear a broken spirit?

~ Proverbs 18:14 NKJV

If you go to a dying man and say to him Its probably Gods plan that you are sick. I promise you that person will end up dead or die a slow painful death.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue,And those who love it will eat its fruit.

~ Proverbs 18:21 NKJV

But if you go to a dying man and preach to him Jesus took his sickness upon Himself on the cross and by his stripes, we are healed. I promise you, there is a very high probability that his cure will be manifested outwardly.

Church Leaders Have An Important Part To Play

Many Christians forget they can call on church elders to praya biblical truth not taught or practiced in many churches.

In James 5:14-16, the elders of a church were called in to visit a sick person under their spiritual care. They anoint the sick person with oil and offer up prayer in the name of the Lord. If the persons illness was the direct result of personal sin, the elders called for confession and repentance.

I Suffer From Psoriasis

Now some of you might feel that I dont understand your pain because I am not suffering from any disease. Have a look at my hand. I suffer from psoriasis since I was 16, I have not known a day without pain. Not a single day in these many years. I have psoriasis all over my body.

Regardless of what my eyes see, what I experience, I still choose to confess, what God sees. By Christs stripes, I am already healed. Not will be healed but I am already healed .

If Christ died for our diseases, why are there people still suffering? Wouldnt all Christians who have cancer, be healed?

If this is your reasoning to claim that God does not heal everyone or there is no more healing in the church age, or the gift of healing has ceased. Just because there are sick among. You, my friend, are on very dangerous grounds.

Let me explain, we both agree that Christ took our sins on the cross. Yet there are people who sin, yet there are Christians who fall into sin, I have sinned after becoming a believer, you have sinned too. Does that mean Christ did not take our sins on the cross?

Then how can you claim the gift of healing has stopped just because people are still sick? You must be consistent, if you claim that then according to your own logic Forgiveness of Sins has also been ceased and no more applicable to the church age.

Bible Verses For Those Who Are Lost

What Does The Bible Say About Health?

We are all faced with the question of our purpose at one point or another in life. Some of us seek the answers in worldly pursuits and false assurances. We can go back to the Word of God and know that we find our purpose in Him alone.

Fear not, for I am with you be not dismayed, for I am your God I will strengthen you, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous hand.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders rejoicing.

Fear not for I have redeemed you I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.

Scripture Also Shows That God Doesnt Always Heal

Paul, one of the most influential men in all of Christendom, provides a potentially confusing scenario. This extreme man of faith lived boldly, in full surrender, and closely united with Christ.

Yet, he experienced physical challenges, but he saw purpose in his pain. He wrote, In order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christs power may rest on me. .

This passage demonstrates these things.

  • First, sometimes even those with world-changing faith struggle. Paul said he received affliction because of his awesome spiritual experience .
  • Second, though God doesnt cause brokenness, physical or mental, He always uses it to grow us and teach us to rely on Him. . In Pauls case, he received a thorn in his flesh to keep him humble and to enabled him to experience Gods power more fully. We lean on Him hardest during difficulties. But the more we rely on, and thus yield to, our Savior, the more Holy Spirit power He unleashes in and through us.

Seeing The Biblical Mandate For Suffering

Acknowledging the breadth of the biblical picture on the issue of emotional and mental health can revolutionise the spiritual experience of those who are currently suffering. It is helpful, for example, to recognise that biblical heroes Moses, Elijah and Paul were so distressed that they considered suicide . Jacob, Job and David all experienced what we would describe as depression . Even Jesus expressed the full spectrum of human emotion, including anger, distress and sorrow just think of his cry of desolation on the cross. And as we know from Paul, healing was not always available to even the most faith-filled saint .

Pain Should Lead You To Repentance

    9. Psalm 38:15-18 For I am waiting for you, O LORD. You must answer for me, O Lord my God. I prayed, Dont let my enemies gloat over me or rejoice at my downfall. I am on the verge of collapse, facing constant pain. But I confess my sins I am deeply sorry for what I have done.

    10. 2 Corinthians 7:8-11 I am not sorry that I sent that severe letter to you, though I was sorry at first, for I know it was painful to you for a little while. Now I am glad I sent it, not because it hurt you, but because the pain caused you to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants his people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way. For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. Theres no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death. Just see what this godly sorrow produced in you! Such earnestness, such concern to clear yourselves, such indignation, such alarm, such longing to see me, such zeal, and such a readiness to punish wrong. You showed that you have done everything necessary to make things right.

Emotional Pain Healing And Forgiveness: What The Bible Says

If you are breathing then youve been hurt by someone. It is one of those things that happens to all of us, and not once but throughout life. Theres a good chance it has happened even today or a few days ago. This emotional pain we feel manifests on different levels ranging from the kind that lasts a few hours to the one that cuts through the soul and can last months or even years.

So how does God view emotional pain and what should we do about it? I want to focus on the one that tends to linger: the difficult type which stays on your mind. First of all let me say that if you are hurting now, be comforted, God sees and cares. And thats why he impressed on me to write this, because he does care.

Let us now examine this pain and understand how we should handle it.

    Why do people hurt others?

As we try to come to terms with the pain we feel, we often wonder why the person/people hurt us, because more often than not it is undeserved. We look back and note the good we did and it does not seem to make sense. The problem is that we always look at ourselves and yet it rarely has anything to do with us. Granted sometimes we reap what we have sown but in those cases we know so theres no mystery.

The irony is that many times what they want is supposed to soothe their own pain or dissatisfaction with life. It is not really your fault that their circumstances are that way. You just happened to be close to them and therefore you were affected. It could have been anyone else.
