What Does The Bible Say About Working

10 Bible Verses on Going To Church

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.â âGenesis 2:15

God created us to work. Not in a sadistic sense to do his bidding or face his wrath. But to subdue the earth and have dominion over every living creature . In other words, all of life, culture, and work is to reflect the beauty and glory of God. This is emphasis of scriptures about work throughout the Bible.

Whether youâre a pastor, construction worker, elementary teacher, entrepreneur, or stay-at-home mom, work is rooted in Godâs good creation, and it’s to reflect his glory. We see this plainly laid out in the verse mentioned above .

Jesus himself was a carpenter, and his earthly dad, Joseph, was a carpenter, too. God himself even got his hands dirty when he made âman of dust from the groundâ .

Not only did God command us to work, but, being created in his image as a Creator, we are hardwired with a desire to createâto work.

This doesnât mean that weâre able to create something out of nothing like God. Instead, we can create things out of something already created. From creating a meal out of multiple ingredients to building a house out of different materials, to varying degrees, we can create.

What is more, like God, we can bring order out of chaos. âThe earth was without form and void⦠And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the watersâ . As the Spirit of God brought order to creation, we too can bring order to the world we live in.

How Should Church Attendance Be

The advent of digital communication technologies has facilitated things like online sermons, online Scripture reading, online worship songs and more, but as Christians what are to make of all of this?

For the purpose of acquiring knowledge, using these technologies as channels of communication for the delivery of knowledge, online church services and Youtube video-like sermons are a good fit.

But for the purpose of worshipping God, receiving the blessings of the presence of God, and establishing the bond of friendship and love with other believers, digital technologies fall short.

This is exactly the way that the apostle John felt, and he communicated so in 2 John 1:12:

12 I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.

John loved his brothers and sisters in Christ he felt compelled to see them in person and so should we.

Undoubtedly, John, felt that letters werent enough to have true fellowship with other believers.

Where Does The Word Church First Appear In The Bible

BibleStudyTools.com explains the word Church in the Bible,

Derived probably from the Greek kuriakon , which was used by ancient authors for the place of worship. In the New Testament it is the translation of the Greek word ecclesia, which is synonymous with the Hebrew kahal of the Old Testament, both words meaning simply an assembly, the character of which can only be known from the connection in which the word is found.

The word ecclesia is used in the following ways in the New Testament:

-Christians in a particular geographic boundary, ex. All the Christians in Antioch, this could be multiple congregations .

The New Testament Church was to be an expansion of the Old Testament Church, rather than a replacement. Eastons Bible Dictionary states, Under ministry disciples were added to the church already existing. The entire Bible tells the story of Gods plan of redemption through His Son, Jesus. John 1:1 says, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John Piper writes, The church is the assembly of Christians gathered to express that unity in Jesus and to worship Jesus.

Can You Grow In Your Faith Alone

Bible Verse About Going To Church For The Wrong Reasons

Ultimately, we need to change the question. The question of whether on must go to church is like the age-old query regarding golf: Cant we worship God on the golf course? The answer to this question is of course you can… but do you?

While your first-time golfing on Sunday morning may provide a rich experience of grace and freedom, will such a worshipful attitude continue? Without a lot of focus, and the building in of spiritual practices and habits, Sunday morning golf will easily devolve into nothing more than Sunday morning golf.

Too often this is what occurs when people separate themselves for active participation in the community of faith.

Instead of asking Do I have to go to church? it is better to ask whether we can live our faith in isolation. Can we maintain spiritual growth? Can we maintain an active prayer life? It is important to look at these things over a length of time. What’s our true heart behind not attending church?

We are not talking about individual spiritual moments, but a life lived before God. The primary question to sit with is whether it is better for you to live out your faith in the company of others, or by yourself?

Importantly, nothing says that attendance at church is to occur at the expense of our livelihood, joy, safety, or heath. There are toxic communities in the world and Gods wish would be for us to remove ourselves from them.

Matthew 1: : Jesus Christ Is With Us Wherever We Congregate

20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.

This Bible verse from Matthew is beautiful in the way that it presents theological difference from the Old Testament, in which the presence of God was in a physical place for the Jews to go to.

Pastors are the leaders who guide, but according to the Lord, as long as two little sheep of the gather anywhere to pray, he is with them. This is powerful.

If he wants his presence to be with us when we are together, then we must be together.

What Does The Bible Say About Going To Different Churches

Going to different churches is not a sin, but according the Scripture, it would not be recommended to do so because you would not reap the rewards of establishing a genuine, more frequent connection with other believers.

If you frequent just one single church, you are more likely to be able to develop a better friendship with other Christians and be able to help them better.

    Psalms 84:10

Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

The Enemy will always tempt us to leave God and the church. He will give us excuses that would sound valid to our ears until we get so used to not being in church. He would then trick us into believing that the tents of the wicked are a better place to be.

    Colossians 2:19

They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

The church has often been described as the body of Christ in the New Testament and Christians as the parts of the body. Jesus Christ is the head of the church. Once a body part has been cut off from the body for a time, it will die. This is what will happen to us if we cut ourselves off from the body of Christ.

    God Works Through Your Work

    Be the church, don

Did you enjoy a bowl of warm oatmeal and a cup of hot coffee? How about a batch of scrambled eggs and bacon? Or, did you pick up something through a drive-thru on your way to work?

Regardless of what you ate this morning, countless people participated in Godâs work of providing you your daily bread. From farmers who planted the seeds and truck drivers who transported your food to grocery store clerks who sold you what you ate and bankers who provide business with financial resources, numerous people, without even knowing each other, participate together in Godâs work in providing for one another.

God is at work in your life and through your life in more ways than you can imagine. Even though you may not see how what you do benefits others, know that God has chosen to act through you, your skills, and experience for the good of others.

The Church Is The Body Of Christ

Jesus died for the church. Throughout the New Testament the church is referred to as the body of Christ. Is it referring to a physical building? No, but it is referring to everyone who has truly been saved by the blood of Christ. Being a member of the body of Christ is beautiful because we have been joined to Christ in salvation and we receive all of the spiritual benefits. As the body of Christ, we demonstrate His heart and mind. Although imperfectly, the life of Christ will be reflected by the church. This means that the church will be loving, obedient, meek, devoted, holy, merciful, etc.

    1. Ephesians 1:2223 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

    2. Ephesians 4:11-12 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ.

    3. Ephesians 5:23-25 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

    5. 1 Corinthians 10:17 Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body for we all partake of the one bread.

    Is Church Attendance Necessary

If the church should reflect Christ, then that means that the church should be devoted. Christ was always devoted to doing the will of His Father. It is Gods will that we regularly attend church. We are told to go to church for a plethora of reasons. Are you saved by going to church? No, of course not. Also, there are a number of reasons why someone might not be able to attend church such as an injury, work schedule, etc. However, we must always examine our deep motives.

Are you not going due to excuses, laziness, or a lack of a desire to have fellowship with other believers? Im not saying that you will have a perfect Sunday church attendance record. If were honest weve all missed church for one week, two weeks, etc. However, when we deliberately refrain from going to church that is sin! Not only is it sin, but we are not allowing God to involve us in His activity within the church.

Im not trying to be legalistic. We are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone. However, if someone is refusing to go to church and doesnt have that desire to have fellowship with other believers, then that might be evidence of a person who is not truly saved. We should be committed to and involved in our local church.

    7. Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

We were created to have fellowship

We should have a cheerful heart about going to church

    The Bible Also Says Yes

Despite frequently contravening religious rules, despite being critical of the Temple structure and its leaders, the fact remains that Jesus was frequently at the Temple. This is significant given the fact that Jesus is the only person on earth who could justifiably live his spiritual life alone. Jesus did not need a community of faith to mediate his relationship with the Father.

And yet, Jesus gathered a community around him. He lived his faith in the company of others. He attended worship at the Temple. An interesting question to ask might be why Jesus himself participated in the community of faith. Or, to put it another way, why did Jesus go to church?

While scripture does not command Christians to attend church, it does speak powerfully about the blessing of the church community. James exhorts anyone who is sick to call the elders of the church to pray over them, and to confess your sins to each other and pray for each other .

The Book of Hebrews calls Christians to consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing . The early Christians did not live their faith in isolation.

Those who joined the Christian movement were immediately immersed in a dynamic community of fellow believers. The early Christians were devoted to prayer, fellowship, teaching, and breaking bread . Meeting together was the natural way that Christian people grew in their faith.
