Bible Verses About Treating Others With Respect

What Does The Bible Say About Respect And Honor

Jesus Helps Me Show Respect (Kids’ Bible Lesson)

When we look at scripture on showing respect and honor to another, Romans chapter 12 verse 10 says, Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Also, Philippians 2:3 says, Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

It is a very humbling experience to esteem others more significant than ourselves, especially when we may feel that it is undeserved. However, scripture says not only to do so but also to show brotherly affection to others and outdo one another in bestowing honor. We are to do so even if they don’t show us much respect at all.

Romans 12:20 says, Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. In other words, showing respect when others may not deserve it allows them to feel remorse and possibly change their ways. By the grace of God, your act of showing honor when it is not deserved can even inspire your enemies. So rather than getting even by rendering evil for evil, we return the other persons evil with good.

Love Others Like Jesus Loves Us

If we always treat others with kindness and respect, the way we want to be treated, or maybe even a little better, many of the world’s problems would be solved. Imagine if we practiced Romans 12:10 while driving: “Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.”

When an impatient driver tries to cut in front of us, we would simply smile, slow down a bit, and let him in.

We are talking about selfless love. Humility instead of pride and selfishness. This kind of selfless love is completely foreign to most. To love like this, we have to take on the same attitude as Jesus Christ, who humbled himself and became a servant to others. We have to die to our selfish ambition.

Here are a few more verses to consider:

Galatians 6:2

Ephesians 4:2Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each others faults because of your love.

Ephesians 5:21 And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

That about sums it up.

Honor Others For Their Potential

See others as God does. Each of us has an amazing potential. Gideon was a fearful man, living hidden from the enemy, yet the angel of the Lord greeted him by saying, The Lord is with you, mighty warrior . The angels greeting was not because of anything Gideon had done, but because he knew how God planned to use Gideon.

The 10 Best Bible Verses About Kindness

One of the most important lessons you can teach your children is that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

Of course, its a lot easier to be kind when youre not stressed. It seems like it is easier to practice kindness when youre wealthy, healthy, and your cup is full. But Jesus didnt admonish us to be kind when we feel like it.

Nope. Jesus actually admonishes us to practice kindness all the time.

Perhaps the most powerful time to respond to someone with kindness and generosity is when we least feel like it. Jesus did that. Even while hanging on the cross, he ministered to his mother and to the thief on the cross.

Jesus listened to a desperate mother plead for her daughter on a day when he was bone tired from teaching and his heart was heavy with the news that his friend had been killed because of him.

Jesus exemplified kindness partly through generosity of spirit. He was gracious, thoughtful and long-suffering. He saw people who were not seen by anybody else. Jesus gave of himself over and over and over again.

His kindness serves as an example for us and we are called to be like him. We are called to be kind.

O Bible Verses About Being Kind

For centuries, people have recognized the power of kindness. Not only does being kind help others around you, but it positively impacts your life as well!

If you need some encouragement to keep fighting the kind fight, going to the Bible to read scripture is a great way to get instruction and inspiration. Here are several of our favorite Bible verses about being kind to get you started.

And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. You have heard that it is said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

Matthew 5:40-43 ESV

But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.

Luke 6:27 ESV

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great.

Luke 6:35 ESV

So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them.

Matthew 7:12 ESV

Love is patient and kind love does not envy or boast it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way it is not irritable or resentful it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ESV

What Does The Bible Say About How You Should Treat Others

Love brings about kindness. Jesus Christ in John 13:34 says, A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. Walking in love means following the example of Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul in Ephesians 5:1-2 says, imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. Likewise, Apostle Paul reiterated in Colossians 3:12-14: Therefore, as Gods chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Bible Verses About Respecting And Treating Everyone Equally

Bible Verses About Respect | Scriptures On Respecting Others and Yourself

In recent local TV news, my husband and I watched the breaking news about one black man and the police. The police mistakenly shot an unarmed black man. The reasons why police shot him were hardly to blame, and a lot of people protested and stood up to yell in public. I asked my husband about this, we both were not certain about how this already happened. However, the judge in a court had time to think carefully and seek better justice. What I see about the recent local news is unbelievably unpredicted. My Sisters and Brothers, respecting and treating everyone equally and be fair to each other should be part of the mature Christian roles.

Some Christians sometimes disrespect others in the cause of choosing or favoring some people, but is that what the Lord wants? No, I am sure that the Lord does not like that. So lets learn what the Lord encourages us and memorize these important verses about respecting and treating everyone equally. Most importantly, this will be how we lead others to Him.

As People Of God We Should Seek To Treat Everyone With Kindness

Treating others with kindness is one of the basic tenets of Christianity. As Paul says in Galatians 5:14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ While the word kind is not used here, to love your neighbor as yourself necessarily implies kindness toward others. Lets look at some Bible verses specifically about treating others with kindness.

Respect Others Because Of Their Position

You can respect your spouse, boss, children, parents, and others because of their position. For example, after David killed Goliath, he became more popular than King Saul. Saul became jealous and determined to kill David, so David fled.

Saul gathered his army and chased David. On two different occasions, when Sauls army was pursuing David, David had the chance to kill Saul.

Most of us would say David had every right to kill Saul. After all, Saul was trying to kill him. Yet although he knew that Sauls actions did not deserve respect, David honored Saul as his king and refused to kill him. At his second opportunity to kill Saul, David said, The LORD forbid that I should lay a hand on the LORDS anointed .

God wants you to respect others because of their position in your life.

Show Respect Because God Commands It

A good starting point is to respect others because God said to. For example, we read in the Bible that husbands and wives are to respect their spouse:

and the wife must respect her husband.

Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect

The same principle applies to other relationships. Peter wrote that we should show respect to everyone and honor the king, although the king in those days was an evil person .

Respect and honor should be shown to everyone, according to the Bible. Even though our culture would say otherwise, as many people today feel that you simply give respect to receive respect. But according to the Christian faith, you should respect everyone, period whether they show you respect or not.

Believe me, it’s not always easy but it is the Christian way. That is why we have help and strength available to us from God. It is beyond our own finite abilities.

Respect is used more frequently in our Western language than honor. Nevertheless, the two carry similar meanings. Even in scripture, the two words are used and translated in place of each other.

In our society, we tend to look at honor as something given to a person of great distinction and accomplishment. But, on the contrary, respect is used more freely and is a word that can be attributed to anyone.

So, what exactly are respect and honor? And what does the Bible say about respect and honor? I will go over that, as well as share 41 Best Bible Verses About Respect and Honor with you.
