Why You Should Not Eat Lobster

What does the Bible say about eating meat?

Lobster gets a bad rap for being high in cholesterol. And compared with some other foods, it is. A 3½-ounce serving of lean top sirloin steak, for example, has 64 mg of cholesterol, and the same amount of lobster has 145 mg. But a serving of lobster actually contains less cholesterol than an egg, which has 187 mg.

What The Bible Says About Meat

The Bible makes it clear about some topics, like how to gain salvation and how sin is bad. However, the Bible isnt always clear about whether or not we should do something because it is dependent on a persons individual situation.

Eating meat is like this since in the Old Testament God knew the Israelites shouldnt eat meat for health and cultural reasons. Today, Christians are allowed to eat meat because God has made all things clean through Jesus and gives us that freedom. But, there are still reasons to not eat meat.

Was Daniel In The Bible A Vegetarian

Some greatest examples of faithfulness towards God is Daniel and his colleagues. Was Daniel in the Bible a vegetarian?

In Daniel 1:8 – But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

In Daniel 1:12 – Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

As a result of this Daniel 1:15 – And at the end of ten days, their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat. When Daniel preferred to eat veg over the king’s meat, then God had brought Daniel into the favour and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs. Last day his features appeared better and fatter than other children who ate the portion of King’s delicacies. Daniel has an understanding in all visions and dreams .

Why Some Christians Dont Eat Meat On Good Friday

10 Important Bible Verses About Food Not To Eat

Like I said previously, Catholics have a requirement by the Catholic Church to perform something to acknowledge their sin and repent for their sins. If you are living under the Catholic Law, I would say then do not eat meat on Good Friday. If you are not living under the Catholic Law but what to respect a family member or friend who is, I dont see that as a problem.

Personally, I have refrained from eating non-halal meats for a period of my life when I lived among Muslims who I could potentially offend or put their salvation in danger because of my contamination with unclean meat.

As Christians, though, we know in our hearts that we have been freed from the Law, specifically because of what Jesus did on the cross on Good Friday, so I dont think it is healthy or helpful to live in fear when you choose not to eat meat on Good Friday.

Is It Wrong To Eat Meat

Ask a Question!NewsletterQuestion:

Answer: The Bible has never clearly commanded vegetarianism and eating meat is certainly permitted in New Testament times. We know that Jesus, when He appeared to his disciples after His resurrection, ate fish .

We also know that, under the Law of Moses, an enormous number of animals were ritualistically slaughtered and offered to God by various burnt sacrifices . The priests were allowed to eat the meat from what they offered under certain limitations .

It is not a sin to kill an animal and then eat it . God had his priests at the temple kill thousands of animals over the centuries. They represented the sacrifice of Jesus for humanity’s sins in advance symbolically.

Rules About Eating Meat

11 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron,2 Tell the Israelites: These are the animals you can eat:3 If an animal has hooves that are split into two parts, and if that animal also chews the cud, then you may eat the meat from that animal.

4-6 Some animals chew the cud, but they dont have split hooves. Dont eat these animals. Camels, rock badgers, and rabbits are like that, so they are unclean for you.7 Other animals have hooves that are split into two parts, but they dont chew the cud. Dont eat these animals. Pigs are like that, so they are unclean for you.8 Dont eat the meat from these animals. Dont even touch their dead bodies! They are unclean for you.

Many believe that boiling a live lobster is cruel to do. While lobsters do have a less developed brain and nervous system compared to a human, it is still capable of feeling pain and discomfort. Should Everyone Eat Meat

What The Bible Says About Eating Meat | Q& A 45: Meat In The Bible

The Bible does not specify whether people should or should not eat meat. This is something that God leaves up to personal choice, and the Lord allows us for health reasons some people can be carnivores, while others do not.

The Bible makes a reference in Deuteronomy that directly says, those who require meat, may eat meat whenever they desire. This is likely a reference to the fact that dietary needs have always been taken into account even in times of the Bible.

While some people cannot eat meat, others might have to for their health. This verse tells us that, if you need it, God will provide.

If we combine this important verse in Deuteronomy with what is said about living creatures , the Bible actually tells more than enough about a healthy diet.

The Bible also makes another reference to diet in Romans 14. Here, the Bible says that we should not quarrel over dietary opinions. Some people might believe that eating meat is what they should do, while others have to eat vegetables.

If we combine all these verses about diet, then the Bible tells us that there are different dietary requirements but that the Lord can provide for all of them. It also tells us that there is no point to argue if we have different opinions about diet: arguments are what take us further away from being able to accept our brothers and sisters.

What Does The Bible Teach About The Eating Meat With Blood

Old Testament

The Old Testament clearly states that God prohibited people from eating meat with blood. Animals that were strangled would not usually be bled, and so their meat would not be bled, and thus it would not be right to be used as food .

God gave the prohibition against eating blood as soon as animal flesh was permitted for humans . And He restated this prohibition in the Mosaic law . And later on, the Lord still considered that the eating of animal blood as a sin .

Greeks and Romans

The ancient Romans and the Greeks prepared their meat with blood. For example, Homer wrote:

Here at the fire are goats paunches lying, which we set there for supper, when we had filled them with fat and blood. Now whichever of the two wins and proves himself the better man, let him rise and choose for himself which one of these he will .

The pagans even used to drink blood mingled with wine at their sacrifices.

New Testament

The Lord taught that this prohibition was not only for the Jews but also for the gentile converts. For the Jerusalem Council, formed by the apostles under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, decreed that gentiles should abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality .

Josephus, speaking as a Jew of the 1st century A.D., recorded that blood of any description he has forbidden to be used for food, regarding it as the soul and spirit .

Does It Say In The Bible Not To Eat Pork

Throughout history, the pig has held a special place in the hearts of Christians, Jews, and Muslims alike. Why is it that Jews are banned to consume pig meat, while Christians joyfully serve ham for Easter?

The explanation could be more complicated than the biblical restriction on Jews eating pork. According to French cultural anthropologist Claudine Fabre-Vassas, if you grasp the pigs significance, you can appreciate the complex and often torturous relationship between Jews and Christians.

In her book, she says: Fabre-Vassas depicts the pig not only as a beloved figure in medieval and modern Christian households, prized as both a pet in peasant cultures and a source of delicious food, but also as a symbol of a hated figure, the Jew, of the very group that scorns it as unclean in The Singular Beast: Jews, Christians, and the Pig , Fabre-Vassas depict Fabre-Vassas claims that the cultural divide between those who eat pork and those who dont contributes to the rise of homicidal anti-Semitism.

The Old Testament is the first place where the Jewish prohibition against pigs is referenced. God forbids Moses and his followers from eating swine in Leviticus 11:27 because it chews the cud but not the hoof Furthermore, the restriction reads as follows: You must not eat their meat, and you must not touch their carcasses they are unclean to you. Deuteronomy subsequently reinforces this point. The restriction was passed down to Muslims through Mosaic law.

Can Christians Eat Meat

Most Christians eat meat, and may do so believing that God intended animals for our consumption. But as eating animals was not Gods intention when He created the world, Christians striving to return to the Garden of Eden increasingly see eschewing meat as one way to get closer to God. Pastor Rob Munro founded the Saint Francis of Assisi Parish of The Humanitarian Church, a vegan church in New York. He believes that with animal flesh in your body, you block the connection to God. He says we dont need to go to church to find that connection: Stop eating meat, live a proper life, and God will find you.

Pastor Rob is not alone. There are many more priests, pastors and worshippers all over the world whose faith has led them to vegetarianism or veganism. In his essay I am a Christian Therefore I am Vegan, the Revd John Ryder writes: What the Bible has to say about Gods purpose for Creation in the beginning, and what things will again be like at the end of time, is perfectly clear. In between I know the majority accepted the eating of meat. They also accepted the practice of slavery. I am sure one day Christians will be as ashamed of the former as they are now of the latter.

What Does Unclean Mean

It

Things that are called unclean in the Old Testament are the opposite of things that are called clean, pure and holy. Uncleanness separated a person from being able to worship at the temple. The emphasis was not on dirt but on Gods definition of what is pure.

As the words clean and unclean relate to animals, God used these categories to show what animals He intended for sacrifices and to be eaten.

Animals and foods were also divided into clean and unclean classes. The clean might be eaten the unclean were forbidden . . . Only clean animals might be offered to God as sacrifices .

The Bible relates following this law to being holy and being like God: You shall be holy for I am holy . It doesnt explain exactly why specific animals are listed as clean or unclean, but we can know that whatever God tells us to do is for our good .

In Christianity What Foods Are Forbidden

The only dietary requirements listed in the New Testament for Christians are to abstain from food dedicated to gods, from blood, and from meat of strangled animals , which were advocated by early Church Fathers such as Clement of Alexandria and Origen. Devout Christians should avoid eating meat offered to idols since it may cause my brother to stumble in his faith with God, according to Paul the Apostle .

Why Dont We All Follow The Biblical Diet Today

We dont all follow the Biblical diet today, because there are different ways to farm and effective ways of guaranteeing clean, healthy, and refrigerated meat. In Biblical times, this was not quite as possible as today and some types of meat were considered a risk that many people do not take.

Deuteronomy tells us that the Lord God willl provide meat if that is what you need.

Is It Permissible For Christians To Consume Meat

Bible & Qur’an Say: DO NOT EAT PORK

Ive typically tried to follow the etiquette rule of never discussing politics or religion in polite company, but its difficult to do, especially when organized political groups spend money and resources trying to persuade Christians that raising animals and eating meat are morally wrong.

The controversy over whether you may eat certain meals and what foods you can and should not consume is as old as the Christian scripture itself, Wes Jamison, associate professor of Public Relations at Palm Beach Atlantic University, says. What makes it new this time is that the animal rights movement has focused on this issue as a strategy to undercut animal agricultures legitimacy in the United States.

Jamison, who is also a Southern Baptist minister, recently co-edited a book with Paul Copan, a Christian theologian and author who is also a professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University, on the challenges to Christian meat-eating, human exceptionalism, and humanitys dominion over other living creatures. What Would Jesus Really Eat? The Biblical Case for Eating Meat, a new book, looks at what the Bible says about using and eating animals from a variety of angles. Randy Spronk, a Minnesota pig producer and former president of the National Pork Producers Council, is featured in the book.

So, which religious denominations are being targeted by animal rights activists? It isnt always the more liberal Christians, according to Jamison.

What Is The Lent Season

Lent season begins six-weeks before Easter which begins with the celebration of Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the mourning or sorrowful season that many Catholics and some Christians honor annually. This six-week period can be looked at with similar importance to some people as the Advent season. Overall, the Lent season is one that helps those who celebrate it understand and feel some of the sorrow Jesus felt.

Previously the season has been explained in comparison to Jesus in the desert, to me. I found this interesting because this was when Jesus was fasting for forty days in the desert and being tempted by Satan. This season for those who celebrate it can be a challenge to their faith, just as Jesus was challenged, which also means it can be a big opportunity for growth. After all, Jesus began His ministry right after leaving the desert period.
