What Does It Really Mean To Prosper

What Jeremiah 29:11 Means (The Most Misunderstood Verse In The Bible)

We live in a time of extraordinary abundance and resources. As the years slip by we have seen an acceleration of opportunity and possibilities. There is more of everything. What would have been considered extravagant a century or more ago has become routine and common: cars, computers, electricity, clean water, centralized heating and cooling, rapid air travel, educational opportunities, diverse career options, health and longevity, leisure time, and disposable income. We could multiply this list far beyond the imagination of anyone living only a century ago.

Prosperity is how many would label these things. But is that true prosperity?

There are voices in the world today who preach a prosperity gospel that faithful Christians should expect God to pour out upon them tremendous material gains and resources.

But is that what God really means when He so loving calls out to us in one of the most persistent themes of the Book of Mormon: If ye keep my commandments, ye shall prosper in the land ?

Why Is It Important To Prosper

It is also the joy of everyday life and the prospect of being able to build an even better life in the future. In other words, prosperity enables people to gain meaningful employment, pursue the opportunities they desire, lead productive lives, and build a future for their families and friends. via

Understanding Gods Version Of Prosperity

YOUR INVITATION TO A LIFE OF HOLISTIC PROSPERITY

Have you thought about what it means to truly prosper in your life the way God designed you to prosper? In 3rd John, John declares,

Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 1:2 NASB

The holistic vision for prosperity we find in scripture goes way beyond financial prosperity. It is an experience that impacts every part of our life!

What would a more prosperous life look like for you? How would life change if you started to grow in relational prosperity with the people that mean the most in your life? What about spiritual prosperity? How might we be stronger and more able to weather the storms of life if our spirit was prospering with an overflow of faith, hope and love? In this devotional we want to provide an introduction to the ways of prosperity God has laid out for us relationally, spiritually, emotionally, physically, financially, professionally, cognitively and socially!

While our desire is to lay out practical steps to take towards growth in these areas, the goal of this devotional is simply to start by laying out the perspective God has on prospering in each area. As we align our perspective with His, we open up doors for change and transformation that we have never noticed before! As children of God, we must be willing to pursue the Biblical perspective God provides.

You Are Constantly Overwhelmed

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

If you are constantly busy, stressed, and on the edge, your soul life is in peril. I am not saying that it is dysfunctional to be busy. We all have seasons of busyness. Thats what it is supposed to be a season.

If you are constantly busy and overwhelmed, you have to be intentional with making a choice to relook the way you manage your time, organise your priorities and unwind. We always have a choice to do what is best for our soul.

What Does 3 John 1:2 Mean?

Furthermore, in this text the word prosper in the Greek literally means to help on the road or succeed in reaching. It is very clear from this definition that prosperity is more than money and the accumulation of wealth, but rather an ongoing state of success that touches every area of our lives. via

What The Bible Says About Wealth And Prosperity

Deuteronomy 8:18 But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. Proverbs 28:19 Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits will have plenty of poverty.

You Live In Fear Of The Future

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.

There is a popular saying that goes, Hope for the best but expect the worse. That is the societal definition of what hope is. It is fleeting, unsure and rooted in uncertainty.

Hope for the Christian is as certain as the unchanging nature of God His goodness. Hope is the confident expectation of good.

The sign of a thriving soul life is a life of great joy and anticipation. If you live in fear and anxiety of what the future holds, your soul is restless. My prayer is that you will rediscover the anchor for your soul . A hope that stands firm and secure, even in the midst of the storms of life.

I pray that you will prosper in all things, even as your soul prospers.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake.

Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.

What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. His soul shall dwell at ease and his seed shall inherit the earth. The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him and he will shew them his covenant.

How To Prosper Spirtually

by Dr David McKinley | Sep 24, 2015 | Pastors’ Blog |

I was recently confronted with the question: How does one prosper spiritually? Another way of putting it would be to ask: What is the key to spiritual growth?

I believe the first Psalm has some insight into this question. The book of Psalms has often been referred to as Israels hymnbook. It contains songs- or poems, teaching on what it means to praise God and know God. The emotions brought forth cover the spectrum of the human experience. When I was going through a dark time in my life, a pastor told me: Go home and read the psalms. Youll know that David and others identified with you.

The ESV Study Bible states: The first psalm serves as the gateway into the entire book of Psalms, stressing that those who would worship God genuinely must embrace his Law . But its sustained contrast the psalm reminds readers that in the end there are really only two ways to live.

Notice the agrarian illustration. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:1-3

What does it mean to delight in the law of the Lord? Might we substitute all of Gods word, the Bible for the law of the Lord? Thus, we must participate in the following:

In contrast, the blessed person recovers a healthy fear of God. The awesomeness of the Lord affects how I think and how I live my understanding of sin and my remorse over it.

What Does The Book Of Mormon Teach About Prosperity

The Book of Mormon provides the clearest evidence of what true prospering is: Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land but inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments ye shall be cut off from my presence .

The commandments are the instructions for how to show covenantal love to God. As we are faithful we receive the promise of His presence. This saving truth is most beautifully enacted each week at sacrament. Look at how we promise to keep the commandments and always remember Jesus. In return, God promises to always have His presence accompany us.

O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this bread to the souls of all those who partake of it that they may eat in remembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them name of thy Son, and always remember him, and keep his commandments which he hath given them, that they may always have his Spirit to be with them. Amen.

If you want to prosper, seek and maintain Gods presence in your life!

    Putting It All Together

Does God Want Us to Prosper?

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Finances come from God, not from the physical realm. Good health comes from God. We may operate Gods principles regarding finances and health, but they originate from a prospering soul. Then the blessing from heaven manifests.

There is no room for fear or doubt. Fear and doubt block your ability to hear Gods voice. Nothing can stop the blessings when the soul is prospering. You will manifest on the outside what you are experiencing in your soul.

Everything we want in life is a result of our souls prospering. In January, I set a theme for myself for the year. I want to live as Christ. So I wrote down steps on how I was going to do this. Now, I realize that living as Christ is a manifestation of my soul prospering. Thats the only thing I need to attend to. If my soul is prospering, everything else will fall in line.

    Word Of Wisdom: Tsalach

    tsaleach

Live long and prosper. Thanks, Spock. You know just what we want.

We all go into business with hopes to prosper. So I couldnt think of a more appropriate word of wisdom than the one for today.

It is the Hebrew word translated as prosper in the Genesis story of Joseph.

The story of Joseph is one that has been treasured by millions of people over the course of thousands of years.

Perhaps the story is so treasured because Joseph is so relatable. Joseph is a man with a dream. We all have dreams. Hes part of a family, as are we all. He doesnt always get along with his siblings. What siblings do? They sell him into slavery. Uh He becomes the second most powerful man in the most powerful country in the world.

Okay, maybe his story isnt all that relatable.

The prosperity Joseph reaches is to a level we only dream of. But in the word translated as prosper in the story of Joseph is a lesson for bringing prosperity to our lives.

    The word is:

tsalach or tsaleach a primitive root to push forward, in various senses :break out, come , go over, be good, be meet, be profitable, prosper.

I know, reading definitions can feel like a jumble of words by the end, especially definitions of words as versatile as tsalach. At least Im not talking grammar.

What did I say about grammar?

Using a word in the transitive sense, the subject of the sentence acts directly upon the object of the sentence.

    Joseph prospers.

But Joseph does tsalach . Joseph pushes forward.

What Is The Symbolism Of Almonds In The Bible

In the Christian tradition, the almond signifies divine favour and approval, and the purity of the Virgin. The nut is concealed within an outer skin, bringing the idea of the essence hidden within things of little apparent importance: for example, the divinity of Christ hidden within the mortal human form.

Lets See If Our Study Prospers Us

In a Scripture Notes search pane, do a search for: prosper*

We discover 172 results are present in the scriptures.

What I like to do on a big list is quickly scan down and see if there are any words that dont belong here so I can exclude them from the search . Press ctrl-F to do a find on the page, and type prosper. Make sure highlight all is selected if your browser has a button for that, then scan down the list.

In this instance I dont see anything so Im going to move these results into a collection note by clicking the Create CN button at the top. Then expand the collection note to see the basic notes for the verses and get a bigger master note area at the top.

Now your task is to go down the list and analyze the results. Read carefully and look for the unique ways that you can see how both we will prosper in the land as a people, and how you will prosper in the land as an individual. Everything is contingent upon righteousness of course, but the surprising thing you will find is how many ways the Lord prospers us that have nothing to do with money.

What Is Jeremiah In The Bible

What Does The Bible Mean When It Says, “You Do Not Have Because You Do Not Ask”?

Jeremiah, a Judaean prophet whose activity spanned four of the most tumultuous decades in his countrys history, appears to have received his call to be a prophet in the 13th year of the reign of King Josiah and continued his ministry until after the siege and capture of Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 586

    The Prosperity Of The Soul

Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

What a wonderful description of the prosperity of the soul. Gods thoughts are much higher than ours. He challenges us to change our thoughts.

Sowhat Do We Do With Jeremiah 2: 11

Ok. If this verse isnt speaking directly about me, what am I supposed to do with it? How can reading Jeremiah 29 help me as a follower of Jesus today?

Welllets start with God. What do we learn about God in this chapter? We see a God who makes promises. We see a God who rescues his people. We see a God who offers future hope and blessing to a people who have sinned, and who are suffering the consequences.

The good news is that same promise-keeping, people-saving God we meet in Jeremiah 29 is the God we worship today! And because we live AFTER the life, death and resurrection of his son Jesus, we know even more fully how good God is! He is still a promise-keeping, people-saving God who offers future hope and blessing to all who trust in Jesus.

So I hope Jeremiah 29:11 gives you a good reason to praise him.
