The Parable Of The Sower Explained

The Beatitudes | The Bible

13 And He said to them, Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?14 The sower sows the word.15 And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts.16 These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the words sake, immediately they stumble.18 Now these are the ones sown among thorns they are the ones who hear the word,19 and thecares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.20 But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bearfruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.

Woe To Those Who Are Glorified Now

Jesus then says , Woe to you when all men speak well of you,

For so did their fathers to the false prophets. This, in a way, points back to remaining meek . There is a struggle for many folks to remain humble when they have gained some sort of notoriety. Some folks love the praise and the glory that they receive from people, but you have to be careful with your love for being glorified.

Later, in His sermon on the mount, Jesus said to the disciples , when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. He continued and said, that your charitable deed may be in secret and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. To those who are glorified by man now, how sad for you, because you are choosing to be glorified by man instead of being glorified by God.

Blessed Are The Peacemakers For They Will Be Called Sons Of God

The Bible says we have peace with God through Jesus Christ. Reconciliation through Christ brings restored fellowship with God. 2 Corinthians 5:19-20 says God entrusts us with this same message of reconciliation to take to others.

Paraphrase:“Blessed are those who have been reconciled to God through Jesus Christ and bring this same message of reconciliation to others. All who have peace with God are his children.”

What Is The Meaning Of The Beatitudes

During His ministry on earth, Jesus preached powerful sermons that exposed error and breathed revelation. In His Sermon on the Mount, our Lord revealed eight mysterious promises that accompany Kingdom living. In awe and wonder the disciples marveled at Jesuss explanation of the beatitudes, knowing that the blessings were already theirswhile masses of mountainside seekers hung on Jesuss words of hope.

Never before had His audience heard such marvelous truths presented in such an interesting and meaningful manner. They longed to have those promises incarnate in their lives. And so do we, says Chuck Swindoll in The Beatitudes: Three Observations.

Living Out The Beatitudes

HEAVY? THOUGHTS...LIGHT LIVING: LAST ONE PICKED ~ FIRST ...

There are a number of ways in which the Beatitudes come into play in daily life. Indeed, there are certainly many other ways in which these tenets can be lived out as well. There are numerous Christian resources that describe how Christians should live out the Beatitudes and Christs other teachings. Whether you are a believer or simply curious, the Bible is a fascinating book with a rich history, and the Beatitudes describe universal virtues such as humility, compassion and helping others that can resonate with anyone.

Believers Are Salt And Light

13 You are the salt of the earth but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Nor do theylight a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works andglorify your Father in heaven.

Blessed Are Those Who Are Persecuted For Righteousness Sake

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Matthew 5:10-12.

When you persist relentlessly in doing righteousness, without yielding an inch, being faithful to Christ in everything, you are greatly blessed. It shouldnt matter what people say or do to you. Especially in this increasingly ungodly world, those who practice righteousness and dont give an inch to the spirits of this present age may be mocked, persecuted, and falsely accused for their faith. Righteousness according to the word of God above all else, regardless of the consequences, is the attitude of all true disciples. Regardless of what happens to you on earth, yours is the kingdom of heaven. God will repay you, and more, for your faithfulness.

The Overlooked Spiritual Component To Happiness

There is a spiritual component to happiness that has been overlooked by many people. Our Creator provided an instruction book for life, the Holy Bible. Here God explains the dimension that is missing in human knowledgethe spiritual element.

Jesus founded the New Testament Church on Himself and the BibleGods Word. His teaching is a religion of love and of law. It has a spiritual component, the Holy Spirit, which is the presence and power of God.

Christianity includes emotions, such as love, joy and concern for others and it includes rulesthe law of God, as explained by Christ and the apostles. In the Bible we find that the ultimate goal of Christianity is not temporary happiness. It is something greater!

The goal of an individual Christian is transformation of the mindto become a new creation who thinks and lives the same way Jesus Christ did. Jesus explained the spiritual traits of character that produce a state of joy that persists apart from and in spite of circumstances. The goal of an individual Christian is transformation of the mindto become a new creation who thinks and lives the same way Jesus Christ did. Blessed Are The Persecuted And Hated

Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit | The Beatitudes for Kids

Jesus then ends on this note , Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Jesus also says this same thing to those in the plain, in Lukes gospel: Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out your name as evil, For the Son of Mans sake.Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.

One thing I have found to be peculiar in the faith is how many people misconstrue what it means to be persecuted. Honestly, I feel more persecuted as a black man than I do as a Christian. To be persecuted is to be persistently harassed or annoyed or be completely mistreated. This, again, will bother some but I am far more persecuted because of my race than my faith in the world today. I think people who have never been persecuted struggle to understand what it means to be persecuted.

Hate is the intense feeling of dislike towards someone. In our society that is becoming more and more secular, there is certainly an intense hatred growing towards Christian faith. Admittedly, some of the hate is aimed at Christianity because of those who are not genuine believers of Christ but are simply Christians in name only.

Beatitudes Meaning Blessed Are The Merciful

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Matthew 5:7

We often have a double standard when it comes to mercy. On the one hand, we like to be shown mercy. On the other hand, we like to see others get what they deserve.

Many people hold on tightly to wrongs that have been done against them. And they are justified in doing so, they were wronged. However, by holding onto those wrongs they are letting go of Gods mercy. You cannot hold onto both.

Grace seems unfair until you need some. Jesus is teaching us that the good life comes to those that offer what is undeserved, mercy. The good life will not come to those that hang onto past grievances. It will not come to those that are stingy with their grace. The good life belongs to those that give the undeserved gift of grace because they were given an undeserved gift of grace.

The Beatitudes Explained Simply :Blessed are those who show mercy and forgive, for they understand the mercy thats been shown to them.

Blessed Are They That Mourn: For They Shall Be Comforted

The blessing is not upon all that mourn but upon those who mourn in reference to sin. They shall be comforted by the discovery and appropriation of God’s pardon. But all mourning is traced directly or indirectly to sin. We may take it, therefore, that in its widest sense the beatitude covers all those who are led by mourning to a discerning of sin, and who so deplore its effects and consequences in the world as to yearn for and seek the deliverance which is in Christ.

Murder Begins In The Heart

21 You have heard that it was said to thoseof old,You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.22 But I say to you thatwhoever is angry with his brotherwithout a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother,Raca!shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says,You fool! shall be in danger ofhell fire.23 Thereforeif you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.26 Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.

First Will Be Last Last Will Be First

The Beatitudes

From those who mourn and are persecuted, to those who are merciful and pure in heart, we find Jesus blessing people who some would consider to be downtrodden and weak. As it so often seems with man, it will not be so in the kingdom of heaven. The Bible says many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.

How Many Beatitudes Are There

There are 9 Beatitudes. The Beatitudes can be found in the Gospel of Matthew 5:3-10. The following is the Beatitudes:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the clean of heart, for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every king of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.”

There are eight recognised beatitudes in the New Testament, although a ninth beatitude can also be discerned by some. Four of the eight beatitudes are from the hypothetical ‘Q’ document and are found in both Matthew and Luke. The remaining four can be traced back to other sources known to the author of Matthew, including the Psalms. The beatitudes as recorded in Matthew are:

1. Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven

2. They that mourn: for they will be comforted

3. The meek: for they shall inherit the earth

4. They which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Wind And Wave Obey Jesus

35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, Let us cross over to the other side.36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?

39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace,be still! And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, Why are you so fearful?Howis it that you have no faith?41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!

Beatitudes Meaning Blessed Are Those Who Hunger For Righteousness

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Matthew 5:6

Jesus is probably reflecting on Psalm 42:1-2 when he says this. Many of us have heard that Psalm before and we probably picture Bambi calmly drinking out of a quiet stream. Thats not the picture David was trying to paint. Instead, this is a picture of an animal desperately crawling through the desert looking for water so that they could survive. Jesus is referring to the same kind of hunger and thirst. Its a desperate, if I dont get this I will die, kind of craving for God.

Jesus is saying blessed are those that are so desperate to do the will of God that its the only thing of importance in their life. They will be filled, their thirst will be quenched, and their hunger satisfied.

The Beatitudes Explained Simply : Blessed are those who are desperate to do the will of God, for they will long for nothing.

The Hungry Are Filled

Sermon on the Mount – Bible Quiz

Jesus then turned His attention to those who were hungry and thirst . Again, when we think of the hungry and those that thirst, we think of those that are homeless and less fortunate than we are. Yet, as I said before, there are many who hunger and thirst in the spirit. Nothing in the world is able to fill their hunger spiritually or quench their thirst spiritually. Jesus says to this group that they will befilled.

I believe this saying really points to the fact that Jesus was speaking spiritually in nature more than physically in the Beatitudes. Mankind should honestly take care of mankind when it comes to those who are less fortunate. In the Old Testament days, Israelite farmers were never suppose to reap their entire crop. They were commanded to leave some of the crop in the fields for those who were less fortunate, and even a stranger in the land, so that they could have food to eat .

Sadly, many people suffer in our world today all because of mankinds greed. I truly believe we are capable of putting food into the mouths of every living human being in the world but we choose not to do so. Some will even try to blame God for the hunger many people face in both the world and our society. That is certainly not the Lords fault, it is mankinds fault for choose not to love as they should.

Observations On The Text

So here we have a series of proclamations without a narrative. The narrative introduction simply sets up the sermon and the sermon begins with these proclamations. Each of the beatitudes is formally a declarative sentence but each is implicitly hortatory, calling for a response.

The method of studying these will be a little different. We still must think in terms of the contexts, not only the historical context of the first century Jewish culture and beliefs, but also the context of the beatitudes in the sermon on the mount, the proclamation of the nature of the kingdom. The study of this section will have to deal primarily with the meanings of the words within those contexts, especially the context of the culture that knew these ideas from their Hebrew and Aramaic languages. Here is where it would be good to have a good word study book, or a book on biblical theological themes or ideas, and possibly a good Bible dictionary if it deals with words like meek or poor or the like.4_ftn4

Most summaries of the beatitudes say that there are eight of them–but you may observe nine blesseds. The difference is that the last saying in the list is different: it does not say blessed are they but blessed are you. Moreover, it seems to be a further clarification of the eighth one with specific application being made to the disciples.
