Tip #5 For Memorizing Scripture: Say The Verse Out Loud Several Times
It helps to hear the verse aloud. No, really. Out Loud! It may feel a little awkward in the beginning, but the more you physically speak God’s words, the more your faith will be increased. Don’t take my word for it, it’s Scriptural.
“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” Romans 10:17
As you audibly say the verse, you are hearing the message. There is power in the Word!
As you’re saying the verse, start and end with the address. You’ll want to know where you found the scripture after you’ve committed it memory.
Break the scripture down into its natural phrasings. Use the bite size pieces to build up to memorizing the complete verse. Eventually you’ll be able to say it from start to finish automatically.
Like any new skill, the more you practice, the easier it gets. Our brains are amazing things…. while it may take you more time to memorize that first verse, the subsequent verses you add will come more quickly. I like to compare it to physical exercise. When we exercise a muscle it becomes stronger. The same is true for our minds.
Better Ways To Memorize Scripture
Memorizing Scripture can be tough.
The cool thing is, you can learn Bible verses in a simple way.
Billy Graham once said, “The Bible is the only thing that combats the devil. Quote the scripture, and the devil will run.”
I don’t know about you, but I want the devil to flee.
Maybe you’re like me and have great intentions to memorize scripture.
You pick out the verse and read it over and over, but it just doesn’t stick.
I thought there HAS to be a better way to get Scripture to stick in my brain so that it will ultimately change my heart. Because isn’t that the whole point?

The 5pm Test Of Memory Tips
Let’s put the 5 Principles of Memorization to work.
When I was a student my go-to memory tool for exams was acronyms.
Id put a group of words into a list, and use the first letter from each word to create a new word.
As soon as the exam started Id write out all those silly words on the exam question paper and hope I could use them somewhere in the exam.
One of two things would happen…
…quite often I couldnt remember all of the ‘target’ words each of those individual letters represented.
Second, even if I was able to use an acronym to answer an exam question, a day or two later I couldnt recall either the acronym or the words it related to.
Using the 5PM Test you can easily see why acronyms and other popular memory techniques are ineffective, despite their popularity.
Memorization Techniques Of Memory Super
I spent over 30 years going to school and college and I now have four university degrees to use as wallpaper.
Unfortunately, during those years I only used study and memorization techniques Ive already mentioned as being complete garbage.
Face palm.
So what SHOULD I have been doing?
That’s what we’ll look at next…

Tip #2 For Memorizing Scripture: Write The Verse In A Journal Or Notebook
There’s something very satisfying about seeing the verses you’ve memorized over the years in a single place.
I’m the queen of a post it note here, on a napkin there… If you keep them in a single notebook, it’s easier to track your progress. You also have a place to refer back to when you want to review what you’ve learned.
One of the cool things that happens when you keep your Scriptures in a journal is that you see how God has used those verses specifically in your life. Powerful stuff, my friends.
Scripture Verses To Memorize
Genesis 1:1– In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Leviticus 19:11– ‘You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another.

Joshua 1:8– “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Psalms 23– < < A Psalm of David.> > The LORD is my shepherd I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil For You are with me Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies You anoint my head with oil My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.

What Is The Easiest Way To Memorize Bible Verses Quickly
In my opinion, Im going to teach you the method that I believe to be the very easiest way to memorize Scripture that I have ever found. Its not hard at all, and in fact, its actually kind of fun!
Once you get the hang of it, youll want to keep memorizing as much as you can! So lets take a look at my favorite way to memorize Scripture.

The Limits Of Our Memory
One of the most highly cited research papers in psychology suggests the number of objects an average person can hold in their working memory is 7, plus or minus 2.
So I created a whiteboard animation video watch it below that challenges people to recall a list of 10 random words.
Sure enough, after 30,000 responses here are the results:
Words correct 1-4: 16% 5-7: 62% 8-10: 22%
Even if I gave people more words , the scores would remain virtually the same.
So it seems hopeless, right? If theres a proven barrier preventing us from remembering and recalling more than seven things, how can we possibly memorize more effectively?
This is when the video goes on to blow the mind of almost everybody who watches it…
It gives a second list of words 15 this time. But it uses a little bit of brain hackery and shows the words as a visual story.

Memory Verse Games For Non Readers
How do you teach memory verses in a fun way to non readers?
As long as you have SOME readers, most of the above games and methods should work with non readers, as theyll simply listen and copy what they hear. Youll be amazed how quickly kids can remember things!
But if ALL your kids are non readers, or youre doing memory verses in a younger Sunday school class, or teaching kids with additional needs, you may like a few ideas of memory verse ideas which dont rely on the written word. Here are some suggestions of what you might do.
9. Act it out
Assign an action to each word or pair of words. Small words like of or the could simply be signed by making an O or T shape with your hands. Nouns like bread, light or world could be drawn in the air or symbolised in some way . Verbs or other words denoting action could be acted out e.g. walk, go, send press on. Numbers could be indicated with that number of fingers being held up and so on.
We learn things so much better when we DO them, rather than just SAY them!
10. Mute/pause
In this game each child has a word or two of the Bible verse to say, and you go round the circle saying your words in order. Take it in turns to press the mute button on certain children when it gets to that childs turn, theyre not allowed to say their word, but the others are challenged to remember it for them.
11. Use pictures
12. Use props
13. Doodle verse
14. Use a fiddle toy
15. Say to a beat

How To Recall One A Verse
As you go, trigger off the associations you made and let them bring back the information.
For example, I would start with the specific Memory Palace and the specific station.
How does one remember that?
If youve correctly planned and organized your memorization activities, then the answer will be known to you without any stress or strain.
Remember:
You create the Memory Palace Network to serve the outcome you want. This process alone will help you remember what is memorized where.
If youre properly numbered each Magnetic Station as taught in the free course, then youll have even more autopilot familiarity with your Memory Palaces.
The 5 Principles Of Memorization
Now you can identify poor memory techniques, how do you identify really great techniques?
They use these five basic principles.
Meaningfulness
Things that make sense are easier to remember than those that dont.
For example, bubbles is easier to remember than sbeblbu.
If new information is meaningless or confusing, a good memory technique will start by adding meaning. Rearranging the letters sbeblbu to bubbles would certainly do that.
Organization
Information needs to be well organized in your mind to be easily accessible.
Think about finding a book in a library or a word in a dictionary. You can easily navigate around and find what you need because theres an organized system.
Association
Association is all about connecting or linking new information to knowledge or facts you already have stored in your head.
A simple example is how I remember the difference between stationary and stationery. I think of a stationary car, because car has an a in it, and for stationery with an e I think of letters which is also spelled with an e.
Visualization
Human memory is predominantly visual. Images are fundamentally more memorable than words.
If you close your eyes and remember some childhood memories best vacations, your favorite school teacher or anything at all youll notice you use visual images to recall each of those details in your memory.
Like you discovered in the video above, visual memory is incrediblypowerful.
