Why Memorize Scripture Is It Important

How to Memorize Bible Verses

Because the Bible says so! Thats an easy answer, right? But seriously, God told us to hide His Word in our heart so we dont sin. And if God said it, then thats really all I need to know in order to be convinced!

But on a practical note, its so important to memorize Scripture because it keeps us from temptation. Just take a look at Jesus time in the wilderness. He combated satan purely with Scripture. And we can do the same in our lives.

Scripture can also be a comfort when we need it. I dont know about you, but thereve been plenty of times in my life where I just need some encouragement. Im always amazed at how much Scripture comes back to my mind. Even verses I memorized as a little girl.

Amazing!

Seeing The Letters Will Trigger Your Brain

The next part is easy. Just look at the letters that represent each word. Then say the verse out loud several times using the letters as a prompt. You can practice line-by-line, or verse-by-verse, whichever you prefer.

Seeing the letters will help your brain remember the words.;

Eventually, you can start trying to say the verse while looking away for small amounts of time. Make the time between looking longer each time until eventually you dont need to look at the card at all. If you have to glance, do it quickly.

You will be amazed at how this simple little hack will help you memorize scripture quickly and efficiently!

Then, shift your mind by putting yourself in their shoes.

You can also change the words by putting your name in each verse. For example, For God, so love that He gave His only begotten Son. That whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have an everlasting life .

Bible Verses To Memorize Tip : Jot It Down

Now that you have a Bible that suits your understanding try to jot down the verses that touched you most.

Get that one-liner verse that speaks to you for the day, and jot it down.

You may write it on a journal, sticky note, or highlight the verse with your choice color. The concept is to choose a text that impresses you or touches you in some way.

Putting The 3 Steps Together

To memorize Scripture, the process of reading, writing, and recalling is the most effective method. The problem is that most of us dont have to time to put the different parts of the process together in way that helps us to memorize Scripture quickly and easily. That was my problem. And that is why I came up with The Scripture Memory System.

The Scripture Memory System incorporates the 3 steps above: reading, writing, and recalling. The Scripture Memory System is a self-contained system that organizes the bible verses into manageable weekly passages . With this system, you begin by reading the passage to be memorized and writing it in the space provided.

After you are familiar with the passage, words from the passage are removed, including those all important keywords. You read the passage, mentally supplying the missing words. In no time, you are able to easily supply those missing words and those keywords that will trigger your memory. Because the memory system focuses on keywords, it will only take you a few minutes per day to memorize your weekly passage.

In no time, you will be able to recite the entire passage from memory.

Mnemonic Examples For Verse Numbers

Once youve understood this technique, it will be simple to create little associations to precede the associations you use for the verses themselves.

Have a look at this:

For Proverbs 18:13, for example, I see a large TV set that;I actually;owned vacuuming J Edgar Hoover using a Hoover vacuum.

Weird and memorizable, right? It is!

But why these images?

Because 18 for me is always represented by a few things, one of which is a TV set.

Not just any TV set, but a particular TV set that has meaning for me.

And when you know the Major Method, youll know that;theres a very good reason that;its a TV and not some other object.

Likewise;with J Edgar Hoover with a Hoover vacuum.

It represents 13 because Im following this simple chart:

Sometimes for 13, I see Hoover vacuuming on the Hoover Dam. Theres actually a way to make that dam a Virtual Memory Palace that Ill talk about in the future. For now, here are 5 Memory Palace Examples you can learn about to enhance your practice.

In any case, having multiple images to draw upon is the Magnetic Memory Method Principle of Compounding. Its part of the joyful science of creating and using a Magnetic 00-99 P.A.O. Learn more in the MMM course on memorizing math, equations and all things related to numbers.

Many of us dont have any Bible verses memorized besides John 3:16. This is a problem.

Memorizing Scripture has a lot of benefits for every Christian, but we usually dont think of it as a spiritual discipline along the same lines as Scripture reading, prayer, and fasting.

We hear stories of people in nursing homes who are unable to remember their childrens names but can still recite hymn stanzas and Bible verses. Or we hear about Christians in captivity who repeat verses of comfort and peace in the midst of their persecution.;If we were in a situation like that, what would we have to hold onto? A One Direction lyric? A baseball statistic from 1967?

Lets look into some of the reasons why we should memorize Scripture, and some practical tips for incorporating it into your daily life!
