To Help Each Other Along The Way

The Church On The Way

Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught, âA major reason the Lord has a church is to create a community of Saints that will sustain one another in the âstrait and narrow path which leads to eternal lifeâ .â2

At church, we can develop caring relationships with others. We can help each other get through tough times as we lead, guide, and walk beside each other . Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has said, âWe are all children of God, and we must teach each other we must help each other âfind the way.ââ3 The Church is the perfect place to do that!

An Experience For The Sake Of Those Not Yet In The Room

The second compelling reason to attend a Sunday morning gathering is that youre bringing a friend with you or because you yourself are exploring Christianity.

I love being part of a church that is constantly designing experiences with those who are not yet in the room in mind.

One of the most exciting things about many growing churches today is theyve become great at hosting experiences that unchurched people can access and ultimately love to attend. Thats what our church does well, and I love both bringing friends into it for the first time and being there to connect with other people that bring their friends.

Spiritual maturity, after all, isnt about how much you know. Its about how much you love. And love that doesnt flow out into the lives of other people isnt love.

Its A Great Way To Start Your Dayactress Patricia Heaton Reflects On Reading The Bible In A Year

Over the weekend, actress Patricia Heaton took to to celebrate a milestone accomplishment that is a perennial goal for Christians of all tribes and traditions: she read through the entire Bible in one year.

A year ago today, I decided that I would finally, for the first time in my life, read the Bible all the way through, Heaton said in a video. And I got this plan from The Gospel Coalition, and I finished it today!

I cant believe it, she continued with a chuckle, going on to show viewers the pages she used to check off the chapters she had read, which were tattered from use and stained with rings from a coffee mug. I just went through and kept checking off and checking off every day.

Heaton, who is perhaps best known for her role as Debra Barone on the popular sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, has often been vocal about her faith. She was raised as a devout Catholic, and one of her sisters is a Dominican nun.

Reflecting on the experience of reading through the Bible in a year, Heaton said, You know, some days were just revelatory. I saw things I had never seen before. And some days were kind of a slog. You know, just going through it and pushing through and just feeling like, I dont even know what any of this is aboutmostly Old Testament stuff.

So, its pretty cool, Heaton said. And its a great way to start your day.

To Bless People All Over The World

Elder Christofferson said that as we work together in the Church, Heavenly Father can âachieve needful things that cannot be accomplished by individuals or smaller groups.â5

Did you know that every year for the past 30 years, the Church has donated US$40 million worth of welfare and humanitarian aid and service projects? The generous donations and volunteer service that Church members offer accomplishes things that could be done in no other way.

Through our extraordinary missionary program, missionaries share the light of the gospel with people all over the world. Nearly 105,000 missionaries are serving. Wow! Thatâs more people than the population of some cities!

Reasons We Really Do Need The Church

Church Magazines

A lot of things in life are optional. But to become the person you were meant to be, you have to follow the plan Heavenly Father has made for you.

Have you ever heard someone ask why we have a church? Or maybe why we need one? Why canât they just be spiritual on their ownâgo to the mountains or the beach or another special place and feel close to Godâand call it good?

Itâs certainly true that you can be close to God wherever you are , but Heavenly Father has so much more in store for you than generic spirituality. He wants you to become the best you can be. In fact, He wants you to inherit all that He has and gain eternal life. And He has a plan and an organization so you can do that. The plan is the plan of salvation, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the organizationââthe only true and living church upon the face of the whole earthâ .

Here are six reasons why we really do need the Church.

A Memorable Afternoon For La Families At The Church Of Scientology Los Angeles In East Hollywood On Sunset Boulevard And L Ron Hubbard Way

Source: Church of Scientology International | Tue, 20 Dec 2022, 13:55:12 EST

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Dec. 20, 2022 It was clear skies and perfect weather for a family outing this Sunday when more than 4,000 Angelenos filled the Church of Scientology Los Angeles and L. Ron Hubbard Way for the Churchs annual toy giveaway. Children left clutching presents after an afternoon of ice skating, donut-eating contests, face painting, and complimentary cocoa, cookies, popcorn and cotton candy.

The gifts were the product of a month-long toy drive launched at the Holiday Lighting Ceremony at the Church November 19, when Jeff Zarrinnam, Chair of the Hollywood Sign Trust, Marine Kalamdaryan from the L.A. Community Alliance, and the Los Angeles Deputy Fire Chief Richard Fields donated the first presents.

The past several years have presented great challenges to Los Angeles families, said Susanna Kaneer, public affairs director for the Scientology Churches of Greater Los Angeles. Recent data compiled by the University of Southern California shows that while food insecurity leveled off in L.A. County in 2021 after spiking at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a significant increase in 2022. Families who are having difficulty putting food on the table are more challenged than ever to provide gifts for their children, and we wanted to help ensure local children have the best Christmas ever this year, said Kaneer.

What Is An Appropriate Severance For Pastors On Their Way Out Of A Church

by Sam RainerPresident & Senior Consultant

A power group surprisingly forced out Pastor Timothy after four years of successful ministry. Pastor John was caught embezzling funds and was fired immediately. After ten years, the board removed Pastor Ed because they believed he was not a leadership match for the congregation.

Should these pastors receive a severance? It depends.

Severance pay is a common practice in many industries. Some employers will offer severance as a gesture of goodwill to those laid off, but it is not required by law under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Many severances are based on the length of employment. A reasonable expectation is one to two weeks of severance for each year of employment. The stipulations of a severance are often outlined in an employment contract. Unfortunately, most people do not have employment contracts.

What about paying a pastor severance? Whether to pay a pastor a severance depends upon the scenario, ministry tenure, and church budget.

What is the scenario?

Retirement. A long-tenured pastor beginning retirement may receive a severance for a few months following an official departure date. In this scenario, the church desires to honor the faithfulness of their shepherd by making the transition out of a pastoral role a little easier. These severances are generally good but should be kept under a year.

What is the pastors tenure?

What is the state of the church budget?

Friends Of Acton Scott Farm Museum Say They Hope A Way Can Be Found To Reopen It

The Church On The Way

The Friends of Acton Scott group, set up to campaign to re-open the working farm museum near Church Stretton says Shropshire Council’s decision to surrender the lease has come as no surprise.

Popular with generations of families, the tourist and education attraction is being returned to the management of the Acton Family after almost half a century of being operated by the council.

Shropshire council said the site was losing £168,000 a year costing the authority £8.40 per visitor to stay open.

It has been closed since 2021.

Alice Walker one of the members of the Friends group said the decision was not a win, but said all was not lost.

“Although this is not what I hoped for at the beginning of the campaign I think it can be said that we gave it a jolly good go,” she said.

” We’ve explored a lot of avenues and garnered a lot of support for Acton Scott that may prove useful to the family as they seek to undertake its running.”

She said that while the news of the council surrendering the lease had been a disappointment, the group had come to see in recent times that it was inevitable.

“We started a campaign to see Acton Scott re-opened as quickly as we could, but 18 months later it has not been possible.

“However maybe this is an opportunity that we didn’t think we wanted.

“The Acton family have said they are are hoping to get it back up and running – at least things can now move.”

She said she would like to see a home grown trust emerge.
