Relationship To Earlier And Contemporaneous Literature

The City of Gold – Episode 20 of the Final Chapter of Bible Prophecy

Books that later formed the New Testament, like other Christian literature of the period, originated in a literary context that reveals relationships not only to other Christian writings, but also to and works. Of singular importance is the extensive use of and interaction with the and what would become the Christian Old Testament. What Is The Last Word In The Bible

In the King James Version of the Bible, the last word is Amen. The last book of the Bible is the Book of Revelation, and the last verse is 22:21.

Other versions of the Bible may say something different. For example, The Message version lists the last word as Yes, but many believe these two words mean the same thing. The Message Bible was created with modern language in mind. The first copyright for The Message was granted in 1993.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Bible is the most widely sold and distributed book of all time. Recent estimates indicated that over 5 billion copies have been sold around the world.

Notes On Biblical Terms

There are a few cases of terms that crop up a lot in the books of the bible, but that get confused in everyday language. We just want to focus in on two the different terms for “God’s chosen people” in the Bible, and how God is identified and named.

The terms “Hebrew,” “Jew,” and “Israelite” are often used interchangeably, but they do mean slightly different things, as addressed in this informative post from Chabad.

The first person identified as a Hebrew is Abraham, and so in a sense the Hebrews are descendants of Abraham. More specifically, the etymology of Hebrew implies an individual who is across or has crossed something, and so it is often used to describe the people of Abraham when not in Israel/Canaan, and when resisting cultural pressures and temptations from outside groups. Joseph is called a Hebrew when in Egypt. Lastly, Hebrew is often used to refer to the Hebrew-speaking Jews of Roman Judaea.

Israelite more specifically refers to descendants of Jacob or Israel, the ancestor of the twelve tribes of Israel who later would be split between the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. It is important to note that Israelite is different from the current national demonym Israeli, indicating a person from the country of Israel.

Why Does A Merciful God Allow These Plagues On Mankind

Notice mankinds response to the seven seals and seven trumpet plagues that will precede these last bowls of punishment. In spite of the severity of the pain and suffering that will be inflicted upon earths inhabitants by the seals and trumpets, humanity will still refuse to repent of its sins .

Reviewing what will have previously occurred during the seals and trumpets, we note that, in addition to grievous suffering, many people will lose their lives through the first four seals, which are also called the four horsemen of the apocalypse . Many more will die during the third trumpet plague , and then a third of the remaining population will die through the sixth trumpet plague .

In spite of these truly apocalyptic horrors, mankind will continue to reject God. They will refuse to worship or obey the Almighty, Eternal Sovereign God.

As the first of the seven last plagues is poured out, we are told that it will come upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image . Note also that the fifth plague repeats that it will be poured out on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom .

Being part of the end-time political and religious system called the beast will have serious consequences! For further study, see the articles: Who Is the Beast?666: The Number of the Beast and .

Chapters And Verses Of The Bible

The chapter and verse divisions did not appear in the original texts they form part of the paratext of the Bible. Since the early 13th century, most copies and editions of the Bible present all but the shortest of these books with divisions into chapters, generally a page or so in length. Since the mid-16th century, editors have further subdivided each chapter into verses each consisting of a few short lines or sentences. Esther 8:9 is the longest verse in the Bible. Sometimes a sentence spans more than one verse, as in the case of Ephesians 2:89, and sometimes there is more than one sentence in a single verse, as in the case of Genesis 1:2.

The Jewish divisions of the Hebrew text differ at various points from those used by Christians. For instance, in Jewish tradition, the ascriptions to many Psalms are regarded as independent verses or parts of the subsequent verses, whereas established Christian practice treats each Psalm ascription as independent and unnumbered, making 116 more verses in Jewish versions than in the Christian. Some chapter divisions also occur in different places, e.g. Hebrew Bibles have 1 Chronicles 5:2741 where Christian translations have 1 Chronicles 6:115

What Do The Words End Times Mean In Scripture

One contemporary evangelical theologian gave a succinct response to the meaning of the end times or last days as used in the Holy Scriptures:

The end-time period surrounding Jesus second coming is variously called the last times, last hour, last days, day of the Lord, day of judgment, day of Gods wrath, time of punishment, end of the ages, end of all things. The temporal finality of these expressions highlights the firm New Testament belief that the present course of history will come to an end when Jesus returns. The certainty of the first advent guarantees the certainty of the second .7

Bible scholars agree that the Early Church adopted the simple framework of apocalyptic dualism. Apocalyptic dualism, a fancy phrase for a plain teaching, means Jesus Christ comes to earth twice. His first Advent brought a New Covenant. The Second Advent will bring a New World. Thus, once the first coming was accomplished, the Second Coming is awaited. Such a position is consistent with Scripture. To wit, Yes, we live in the last days and we have been since Christ returned to Heaven. No less than the Lord, the Holy Spirit, through the inspired writers of the Old and New Testaments, declares that we are in those last days now. The Apostles Paul, Peter, and the writer to the Hebrews, each support the other in saying that the resurrection and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ inaugurated the end of days.

Chapter Two: The Perennial Freshness Of The Bible Bears Witness To Its Divine Inspirer

What Happened to the Last Chapter of Mark?

The full force of the present argument will appeal only to those who are intimately acquainted with the Bible, and the more familiar the reader is with the Sacred Canon the more heartily will he endorse the following statements. Just as a knowledge of Latin is necessary in order to understand the technique of a treatise on pathology or physiology, or just as a certain amount of culture and academic learning is an indispensable adjunct to intelligently follow the arguments and apprehend the illustrations in a dissertation on philosophy or psychology, so a first-hand acquaintance with the Bible is necessary to appreciate the fact that its contents never become commonplace.

Although one may know, word for word, the entire contents of some chapter of Scripture, and although he may have taken the time to ponder thoughtfully every sentence therein, yet, on every subsequent occasion, provided one comes to it again in the spirit of humble inquiry, each fresh reading will reveal new gems never seen there before and new delights will be experienced never met with previously. The most familiar passages will yield as much refreshment at the thousandth perusal as they did at the first. The Bible has been likened to a fountain of living water: the fountain is ever the same, but the water is always fresh.

The Bible Ends With The Second Coming Of Jesus

Most of the events in the book of Revelation focuses on Jesus second coming. Jesus first coming is recorded in the Gospels, which are the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Jesus first coming was as the Lamb of God to die on the cross for the sins of the world. These events took place around 30 or 33 A.D.

Jesus second coming is explained in various places, but with the most detail in the book of Revelation. Jesus Second Coming as explained in the book of Revelation has yet to take place. Jesus Himself gave us signs that will accompany His return.

These signs are recorded in Matthew 24 and Luke 21. This is how the Bible predicts the world will end. Its actually not the end of the world. Its just the end of this age and the beginning of the next age. The signs in Matthew 24 will come about before Jesus returns to cleanse the earth of evil, and heaven and earth will be joined together and renewed.

The Signs of the End of the Age in Matthew 24

  • False Messiahs claiming to be the Christ
  • False prophets with false miracles that are not from God . Even people who believe in Jesus will be deceived .
  • The abomination of desolation . An idol will be set up in the temple in Jerusalem .
  • Political upheaval: wars and rumors of wars
  • Convulsions of nature: famines, pestilences, earthquakes
  • Persecution of Christians, leading to apostasy, the great falling away: The love of many will grow cold. Many will be offended, leading to betrayal and hatred .
  • The great pressures in Jerusalem
  • Chapters In The Bible On The End Times

In this document we have identified 150 chapters in the Bible in which the End Times is the main subject. We have selected only the chapters in which the majority of the text is focused on some aspect of the End Times. The eighty-nine chapters of the four Gospels give us a record of Jesus heart and power at His first coming when He came to pay the price for our redemption.

The 150 chapters give us a record of Jesus heart and power at His Second Coming when He comes to take over the earth. These 150 chapters reveal the same Jesus operating in the same Holy Spirit as recorded in the same Bible. Almost twice as many chapters of Scripture describe Jesus Second Coming than His first coming.

We must not be illiterate regarding these glorious 150 chapters in the Bible about the Jesus we love. The generation in which the Lord returns is clearly the generation the Bible describes the most. Jesus spoke more about that generation than the one in which He was born. He did this to prepare His Bride to be victorious in love during the most dramatic time in world history.

NEW TESTAMENTMatthew 13: Jesus first refers to the partial judgments on Israel described in Isaiah 6. Next, He describes the characteristics of the nature of the kingdom through a series of parables. One underlying theme in these parables is that the full manifestation of the kingdom will happen after the Second Coming.

2 Corinthians 5: Paul teaches on the resurrected body and the judgment seat of Christ.

The Phrase New Testament As The Collection Of Scriptures

The use of the phrase “New Testament” to describe a collection of first and second-century Christian Greek scriptures can be traced back to in his work Against Praxeas. Irenaeus uses the phrase “New Testament” several times, but does not use it in reference to any written text. In Against Marcion, written c. 208 AD, Tertullian writes of:

the Divine Word, who is doubly edged with the two testaments of the and the .

And Tertullian continues later in the book, writing:

it is certain that the whole aim at which he has strenuously laboured, even in the drawing up of his , centres in this, that he may establish a diversity between the Old and the New Testaments, so that his own may be separate from the , as belonging to this rival God, and as alien from the law and the .

By the , the existenceâeven if not the exact contentsâof both an Old and New Testament had been established. , a 3rdâ4th century Christian author wrote in his early-4th-century Latin Institutiones Divinae :

describes the collection of Christian writings as “covenanted” books in Hist. Eccl. 3.3.1â7 3.25.3 5.8.1 6.25.1.

The first three gospels listed above are classified as the . They contain similar accounts of the events in Jesus’s life and his teaching, due to their literary interdependence. The Gospel of John is structured differently and includes stories of several miracles of Jesus and sayings not found in the other three.

Three Last Things in the Last Chapter of the Holy Bible

originally by Clayton Hardiman, Religion News Service

For comedians, there are subjects that are almost too easy — sure things that guarantee alaugh. For one host of a late night television show, it was people’s knowledge of theBible. During one television show, the host moved through his audience askingpeople what they knew about the Bible. “Name one of the TenCommandments,” he said.

“God helps those who help themselves?” someone ventured.

“Name one of the apostles,” the host asked. No one could.

Finally, he asked them to name the Beatles. Without hesitation, the answer came ringingfrom throughout the crowd: George, Paul, John and Ringo.

The television show host wasn’t spoofing the Bible that evening. He was spoofing oursociety, which claims a grounding in Judeo-Christian principles and yet — according to a numberof surveys — is increasingly losing touch with the Scriptures of those two faiths.

Only two of 10 people participating in a recent Gallup survey correctly identified whodelivered the Sermon on the Mount, said David Eikenberry, youthpastor at Orchard View Congregational Church in Muskegon, Michigan. “Typically, peoplecould name only three or four of the Ten Commandments,” Eikenberry said. Even that, however, did place Gallup’s respondents ahead of Leno’s “Tonight Show” audience.

Educators tell horror stories about intellectually advanced students who fail to recognizeliterary references to Jonah or the prodigal son.

The Bible Ends How It Begins

The Bible begins and ends in a garden. The garden is where God placed man after He created everything. He says its good . The imagery thats found in the first part of the Bible is also at the end of the Bible. Genesis, the first book of the Bible, describes how God created the world. The last book of the Bible, Revelation, reveals how God will restore His original plan.

The First Book of the Bible: Genesis The Last Book of the Bible: Revelation
The Garden of Eden Garden & the Tree of Life
The Tree of Life The Tree of Life
The River The River of Life
Creation of Heaven & Earth New Heaven & New Earth
The First Marriage The Final Marriage

How does the Bible begin and end? The Bible begins with Gods original plan for mankind to rule as His representatives on the earth . Mankind chooses not to follow Gods plan, resulting in the Fall . As a result, mankind and the world we live in end up in a state of brokenness sin and death enter the world. There is sickness, war, poverty, injustice and all sorts of things that cause pain and sadness in the world.

The way God makes this is possible is through what happens at the cross where Jesus Christ, the Son of God, dies as a substitute for the sins of mankind . What happened at the cross is the payment for our sin . The cross makes it possible for mankind and for the world we live in to be restored to Gods original design. The Bible now calls people to believe in Jesus Christ who God has sent .
